The development of some computational algorithms based on cellular automaton was described to simulate the structures formed during the solidification of steel *** algorithms described take results from the steel thermal behavior and heat removal previously calculated using a simulator developed by present authors in a previous *** time is used for displaying the steel transition from liquid to mushy and *** it is also used to command computational subroutines that reproduce nucleation and grain *** routines are logically programmed using the programming language C＋＋ and are based on a simultaneous solution of numerical methods （stochastic and deterministic） to create a graphical representation of different grain structures *** grain structure obtained is displayed on the computer screen using a graphical user interface （GUI）.The chaos theory and random generation numbers are included in the algorithms to simulate the heterogeneity of grain sizes and morphologies.

This work is focused on the development of computational algorithms to create a simulator for solving the heat transfer during the continuous casting process of steel. The temperatures and the solid shell thickness profiles were calculated and displayed on the screen for a billet through a defined continuous casting plant （CCP）. The algorithms developed to calculate billet temperatures, involve the solutions of the corresponding equations for the heat removal conditions such as radiation, forced convection, and conduction according to the billet posi- tion through the CCP. This is done by a simultaneous comparison with the kinematics model previously developed. A finite difference method known as Cmnk-nicholson is applied to solve the two-dimensional computational array （2d model）. Enthalpy （HIJ） and temperature （TIL） in every node are updated at each step time. The routines to display the results have been developed using a graphical user interface （GUI） in the programming language C＋＋. Finally, the results obtained are compared with those of industrial trials for the surface temperature of three steel casters with different plant configurations in different casting conditions.

A description of a mathematical algorithm for simulating grain structures with straight and hyperbolic interfaces is shown. The presence of straight and hyperbolic interfaces in many grain structures of metallic materials is due to different solidification conditions, in- eluding different solidification speeds, growth directions, and delaying on the nucleation times of each nucleated node. Grain growth is a complex problem to be simulated; therefore, computational methods based on the chaos theory have been developed for this purpose. Straight and hyperbolic interfaces are between columnar and equiaxed grain structures or in transition zones. The algorithm developed in this work involves random distributions of temperature to assign preferential probabilities to each node of the simulated sample for nucleation according to previously defined boundary conditions. Moreover, more than one single nucleation process can be established in order to gen- erate hyperbolic interfaces between the grains. The appearance of new nucleated nodes is declared in sequences with a particular number of nucleated nodes and a number of steps for execution. This input information influences directly on the final grain structure （grain size and dislribution）. Preferential growth directions are also established to obtain equiaxed and columnar grains. The simulation is done using rou- tines for nucleation and growth nested inside the main function. Here, random numbers are generated to place the coordinates of each new nucleated node at each nucleation sequence according to a solidification probability. nucleation and growth routines are executed as a func- tion of nodal availability in order to know if a node will be part of a grain. Finally, this information is saved in a two-dimensional computa- tional array and displayed on the computer screen placing color pixels on the corresponding position forming an image as is done in cellular automaton.

Liquid Crystal Elastomers(LCEs)are renowned for their reversible deformation ***,enhancing their mechanical strength while retaining such flexibility has posed a considerable *** overcome this,we utilized 4d printing to develop an innovative composite of LCE with carbon fiber fabric(LCEC).This approach has notably increased the tensile strength of LCE by eightfold,all the while maintaining its exceptional capacity for reversible *** adjusting the alignment angle between carbon fiber and the LCE printing direction from 0°to 90°,the LCEC demonstrates an array of new deformation patterns,including bending,twisting,wrapping,and S-shaped transformations,which are distinct from pure LCE *** study unveils that LCE composites exhibit deformation processes markedly different from their pure material counterparts,with the ability of pure LCE to sustain tensile strains exceeding 1900%.These findings,previously undocumented and unexplored,represent a substantial contribution to the field of smart *** finite element analysis,we explored the carbon fiber and LcE matrix dynamics,revealing bending mechanics in *** combined experimental and simulation approach yields crucial insights for crafting durable,high-strength LCECs with diverse deformational properties,advancing smart material technology.

Treating protein-rich wastewater using cost-effective and simple-structured single-stage reactors presents several *** this study,we applied an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor(AnSBR)to treat protein-rich wastewater from a *** focused on identifying the key factors influencing the removal of chemical oxygen demand(COd)and the settling performance of the *** AnSBR achieved a maximum total COd removal of 90%,a protein degradation efficiency exceeding 80%,and a COd to methane conversion efficiency of over 70%at organic loading rates of up to 6.2 g COd L^(-1)d^(-1).We found that the variations in both the organic loading rate within the reactor and the hydraulic retention time in the buffer tank had a significant effect on COd *** hydraulic retention time in the buffer tank and the reactor,which determined the ammonification efficiencies and the residual carbohydrate concentrations in the reactor liquid,affected the sludge ***,the genus Clostridium sensu stricto 1,known as protein-and lipids-degraders,was predominant in the *** analysis showed a significant correlation between the core microbiome and ammonification efficiency,highlighting the importance of protein degradation as the governing process in the *** results will provide valuable insights to optimise the design and operation of AnSBR for efficient treatment of protein-rich wastewater.

Background Stone pine(Pinus pinea), a drought-resistant species, has significant socio-economic benefits and increasing interest for the establishment of productive plantations in several countries, especially in a climate change context. Monitoring hourly stem diameter variations contributes to the understanding of the tree-growth response to changes in environmental conditions and management. By monitoring the diameter expansion of tree stems, high-resolution band dendrometers were used to study the development of adult trees growing in a semi-arid coastal environment of central Chile under fertilized and non-fertilized soil conditions through the span of a *** Short cycles(n fertilized and non-fertilized trees(6 and 4, respectively), whereas long cycles(> 28 h) occurred at a higher frequency in fertilized trees(16 vs 6). Most of the circadian cycles were regular(24 ± 3 h). The longest cycle duration(59 h) was observed in fertilized trees during spring. In all seasons, each phase of the circadian cycle, especially during the stem diameter increment phase(P3, irreversible growth), started earlier in fertilized than in control trees. P3 duration was significantly longer in fertilized than in control trees in springtime. The maximum shrinkage(P1) was observed in summer for both treatments. Stem diameter increased faster in fer-tilized than in control trees throughout the year, with the highest accumulation occurring in spring and the lowest in autumn. The daily variability pattern showed lower growth under high temperature across *** This study highlights the importance of fertilization in enhancing stone pine diameter growth. This cultural practice should be further explored to contribute to the mitigation of climate change effects in semi-arid environments.
