Emerging role of protein kinase C in energy homeostasis: A brief overview

Protein kinase C-β(PKCβ), a member of the lipidactivated serine/threonine PKC family, has been implicated in a wide range of important cellular processes. Very recently, the novel role of PKCβ in the regulation of triglyceride homeostasis via regulating mitochondrial function has been explored. In this review, I aim to provide an overview of PKCβ regarding regulation by lipids and recently gained knowledge on its role in energy homeostasis. Alterations in adipose PKCβ expression have been shown to be crucial for diet-induced obesity and related metabolic abnormalities. High-fat diet is shown to induce PKCβ expression in white adipose tissue in an isoform- and tissue-specific manner. Genetically manipulated mice devoid of PKCβ are lean with increased oxygen consumption and are resistant to high-fat diet-induced obesity and hepatic steatosis with improved insulin sensitivity. Available data support the model in which PKCβ functions as a "diet-sensitive" metabolic sensor whose induction in adipose tissue by high-fat diet is among the initiating event disrupting mitochondrial homeostasis via intersecting with p66Shc signaling to amplify adipose dysfunction and have systemic consequences. Alterations in PKCβ expression and/orfunction may have important implications in health and disease and warrants a detailed investigation into the downstream target genes and the underlying mechanisms involved. development of drugs that target the PKCβ pathway and identification of miRs specifically controlling PKCβ expression may lead to novel therapeutic options for treating age-related metabolic disease including fatty liver, obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Introduction Patients with acute ischaemic strokes(AIS),on average,fare better with timely neurologist consultation,and a growing proportion of them receive ***,little is known about trends in the characteristics of neurologists who treat *** We identified AIS and transient ischaemic attack(TIA)episodes with neurologist consults in fee-for service Medicare from January 2008 to September *** each episode,we determined whether the neurologist was a vascular neurologist,was a high-volume provider,whether the patient was transferred between hospitals and the distance between the patient’s home and physician’s *** From 2008 to 2021,the share of AIS/TIA episodes(n=5073294)with neurologist consults increased(52.9%to 61.7%).Among episodes with consults,the fraction conducted by a vascular neurologist(5.2%to 13.7%)or by a high-volume neurologist(13.2%to 14.9%)also *** fraction with the patient’s home and neurologist greater than 100 miles apart(4.8%to 9.6%)or in different states(5.1%to 8.1%)increased,as did the fraction with transfers(4.2%to 8.5%).discussion Over the study period,the proportion of AIS/TIA episodes with consultations from neurologists with either vascular neurology certifications or high volumes increased substantially.

EFFECT OF COPPER ON THE HOT PLASTICITY OF 304HC STAINLESS STEEL

The plasticity map of 304HC stainless steel was determined by using tensile and compressive test. The effect of Cu on the hot plasticity of 304HC stainless steel was analyzed. The microstructure, inclusion and fracture surface were studied by using the method of optical microscopy, SEM, EdS and EPMA. The results showed that Cu has effect on the hot plasticity and the hot plasticity of 304HC stainless steel decrease with the increase of Cu content. The deformation temperature also has much effect on the hot plasticity, the suitable deformation temperature are 1100-1200℃. The reason is that the brittle compounds were precipitated from austenite during cooling. These brittle compounds are Cu2S, Cu2O and PbCI etc.

What do Social Workers Think About Unaccompanied Foreign Minors＇ Family Fostering in Italy

In Italy, the unaccompanied foreign minors are a growing and heterogeneous group with ever changing origins, trajectories, and features. In November 2015, they were 10,952. This research focuses on their foster care and examines the point of view of social workers that have theoretical competences and fieldwork. The main objective of this paper is to present operational recommendations concerning the definition and organization of this instrument, starting from social workers＇ direct experiences. Main results： A friendly familiar setting is useful to overcome loneliness and social isolation coming from a new and unknown realiW during adolescence and permit a better social, school, and professional integration for the minor compared with residential care. For a successful outcome, the strengths consist in： The young migrant must not have behavioral nor psychiatric disorders and must be willing to integrate himself into a new family, recognize adult authoriW and share his life plan with family＇s adults; training all foster families included omo-cultural ones; the birth family involvement in the foster care＇s project. The ascertained criticalities concern on the low number of available families, the lack of standard operating procedures, guidelines, research, and literature on the topic.
