This research explores the potential of an immersive and interactive online archive to enhance our understanding of historic architecture through the study of *** reports on implementing an augmented reality mobile application that exhibits a model for the unbuilt Endless House,1959,by Frederick kiesler.A reflective critique,from the researcher’s point of view,and initial feedback from a small sample of architecture students,provides an insight into users’experience of the exhibition,its value as a research tool,and as an educational *** on existing technologies and established research methods,we present an alternative way of exhibiting a large-scaled model for public engagement and research collaboration between academics,archivists,and *** discuss the development of the mobile application with interactive features specifically designed for an architectural *** touches on issues associated with documenting,interpreting,and exhibiting architectural models,emphasizing accessibility,accuracy,engagement,combining 3d and 2d digital assets,and user *** was found that the interactive and immersive features of the exhibition enhanced the researchers’scope to spatially inspect the model,visually experience it,collaborate with others,and strengthen connections between the model and other examples of kiesler’s textual and visual archival materials.

A novel approach was developed to reduce the corrosion rate of magnesium(Mg)metal,utilising titanate *** sputtering was used to deposit ca.500 nm titanium(Ti)coatings onto pure Mg discs,followed by hydrothermal conversion and ion exchange reactions to produce sodium and calcium titanate *** confirmed the characteristic nanoporous structure of sodium and calcium titanate,with thicknesses ranging from ca.0.8 to 1.4μ*** analysis confirmed the presence of Ti^(4+)-O,Na-O,and Ca-O bonding,whilst Raman spectroscopy demonstrated characteristic vibrational modes(such as TiO 6 octahedral vibrations)of the sodium and calcium titanate perovskite ***,corrosion studies through potentiodynamic polarisation measurements demonstrated the NB/NH CaTC samples to be superior in reducing Mg degradation,compared to other samples tested,through an increase in E_(corr)from-1.49 to-1.33 V,and the reduction in corrosion current density,i corr,from 0.31 to 0.06 mA/cm^(2)for Mg and NB/NH CaTC samples,*** was a clear trend noted for the NB/NH samples,which showed an increase in E corr to more positive values in the following order:Mgdd onto degradable plates for bone fracture fixation,or other orthopaedic applications.

Recently,transition-metal-based.k.gome metals have aroused much research interest as a novel platform to explore exotic topological quantum *** we report on the synthesis,structure,and physical properties of a bilayer kagome lattice compound V_(3)Sb_(2).The polycrystalline V_(3)Sb_(2) samples were synthesized by conventional solid-state-reaction method in a sealed quartz tube at temperatures below 850℃.Measurements of magnetic susceptibility and resistivity revealed consistently a density-wave-like transition at Tdw≈160 k with a large thermal hysteresis,even though some sample-dependent behaviors were observed presumably due to the different preparation *** cooling through Tdw,no strong anomaly in lattice parameters and no indication of symmetry lowering were detected in powder x-ray diffraction *** transition can be suppressed completely by applying hydrostatic pressures of about 1.8 GPa,around which no sign of superconductivity was observed down to 1.5 ***-heat measurements revealed a relatively large Sommerfeld coefficientγ=18.5 mJ·mol^(-1)·k^(-2),confirming the metallic ground state with moderate electronic *** functional theory calculations indicate that V_(3)Sb_(2) shows a non-trivial topological crystalline ***,our study makes V_(3)Sb_(2) a new candidate of metallic kagome compound to study the interplay between density-wave-order,nontrivial band topology,and possible superconductivity.

We sought to evaluate the association between plasma levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein(MCP)-1 and the risk for subclinical atherosclerosis. Monocyte chemoattractant protein is a chemokine that recruits monocytes into the developing atheroma and may contribute to atherosclerotic disease development and progression. Plasma levels of MCP-1 are independently associated with prognosis in patients with acute coronary syndromes, but few population-based data are available from subjects in earlier stages of atherosclerosis. In the dallas Heart Study, a population-based probability sample of adults in dallas County ≤65 years old, plasma levels of MCP-1 were measured in 3,499 subjects and correlated with traditional cardiovascular risk factors, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP), and coronary artery calcium(CAC) measured by electron beam computed tomography. Higher MCP-1 levels were associated with older age, white race, family history of premature coronary disease, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia,and higher levels of hs-CRP (pd between MCP-1 and risk factors in the subgroup of participants without detectable CAC. Compared with the subjects in the lowest quartile of MCP-1, the odds of prevalent CAC (CAC score ≥10) for subjects in the second, third, and fourth quartiles were 1.30 (95%confidence interval 0.99 to 1.73), 1.60 (95%CI 1.22 to 2.11), and 2.02 (95%CI 1.54 to 2.63), respectively. The association between MCP-1 and CAC remained significant when adjusted for traditional cardiovascular risk factors, but not when further adjusted for age. In a large population-based sample, plasma levels of MCP-1 were associated with traditional risk factors for atherosclerosis, supporting the hypothesis that MCP-1 may mediate some of the atherogenic effects of these risk factors. These findings support the potential role of MCP-1 as a biomarker target for drug development.

Aims: The study evaluated the associations between glycometabolic parameters at admission and during hospitatization and 2 year all-cause mortality risk in an unselected cohort of consecutive patients with diabetes admitted for unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction to a university hospital during 1988-98. Methods and results: A total of 713 consecutive patients with diabetes were included. during 2 years of follow-up, 242(34% ) patients died. All analyses were retrospective using prospectively collected clinical data. The primary study endpoint was 2 year all-cause mortality collected from the Swedish cause-specific mortality register. In unadjusted analyses, high admission blood glucose(highest vs. lowest quartile: hazard ratio(HR) 2.66; 95% confidence interval(CI) 1.83, 3.86) and hypoglycaemia recorded during hospitalization(hypoglycaemia vs. normal: HR 1.77; 95% CI 1.09, 2.86) were both significantly associated with increased 2 year all-cause mortality risk. These associations remained significant after multivariable adjustment. Conclusion: In the setting of acute coronary syndromes(ACS) among patients with diabetes, hyperglycaemia on arrival and hypoglycaemia during hospitalization are both independently associated with worse adjusted all-cause 2 year mortality risk. These observations suggest that the avoidance of both hyper-and hypoglycaemia during ACS events may be of similar importance, and glucose modulation remains an important objective to address in future randomized trials.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to determine whether there are race and gender differences in the distribution of C-reactive protein(CRP) levels. BACkGROUNd: Few data are available comparing CRP distributions in different race and gender groups. Recent clinical practice recommendations for CRP testing for cardiovascular risk assessment suggest a uniform threshold to define high relative risk( >3 mg/l). METHOdS: We measured CRP in 2,749 white and black subjects ages 30 to 65 participating in the dallas Heart Study, a multiethnic, population-based, probability sample, and compared levels of CRP between different race and gender groups. RESULTS: Black subjects had higher CRP levels than white subjects(median, 3.0 vs. 2.3 mg/l; pd women had higher CRP levels than men(median, 3.3 vs. 1.8 mg/l; pdjusted proportion of subjects with CRP levels >3 mg/l was 31%, 40%, 51%, and 58%in white men, black men, white women, and black women, respectively(pdjustment for traditional cardiovascular risk factors, estrogen and statin use, and body mass index, a CRP level >3 mg/l remained more common in white women(odds ratio[OR] 1.6; 95%confidence interval[CI] 1.1 to 2.5) and black women(OR 1.7; 95%CI 1.2 to 2.6) but not in black men(OR, 1.3; 95%CI, 0.8 to 1.9) when compared with white men. CONCLUSIONS: Significant race and gender differences exist in the population distribution of CRP. Further research is needed to determine whether race and gender differences in CRP levels contribute to differences in cardiovascular outcomes, and whether thresholds for cardiovascular risk assessment should be adjusted for different race and gender groups.
