The influence of grafting on agronomical and qualitative characteristics of four Sicilian eggplant landraces was investigated. grafted and ungrafted plants were compared in the open field in the northern coast of Sicily. Solanum torvum seedlings were used as rootstock. Regardless of genotypes tested, grafting significantly increased total fruit production, marketable production, and number of marketable fruits, but did not affect weight of marketable fruits and waste production. Landrace 2（Sciacca）, with black epidermal tissue and pyriform fruit shape, when grafted onto S. torvum not only gave a higher yield performance than ungrafted plants, but also showed a higher phenolic antioxidant content. Landrace 4（Sicilia）, with black epidermal tissue and small cylindrical fruits also benefited, when grafted onto S. torvum, from a substantial increase in antioxidant fruit content. As consumers＇ demand for fruits and vegetables rich in compounds important for human health is steadily increasing, these landrace/rootstock combinations should deserve more attention by plant nurseries involved in grafted seedling production and interested in the valorization and conservation of eggplant biodiversity.

Purpose:To demonstrate a novel algorithm for simulating moving surface flows. Methods: A fully conservative control volume method, on an adaptive Eulerian grid, has been developed to guarantee that the 'kinematic free surface condition 'is automatically satisfied by solving the mass and momentum conservation equations. No separate free surface tracing equation is needed. The basic idea has been extended to solve general moving surface problems by adding 'boundary-node-constraints' to the solution equation set. Results; Two application problems, a critical free surface flow over an obstruction and flow past a 2-d inflated building, were predicted by the proposed method. The predicted results were in good agreement with the corresponding experimental findings. Conclusions: The proposed moving surface model permits prescribed moving walls, free surfaces, and compliant surfaces to be simulated by the same computer code. The moving surface shape is obtained as part of the solution of the conservation equations; no surface-tracing step is needed.

In this paper,we find the solutions for two-dimensional biological population model having fractional order using fractional natural decomposition method(FNdM).The proposed method is a graceful blend of decomposition scheme with natural transform,and three examples are considered to validate and illustrate its *** nature of FNdM solution has been captured for distinct arbitrary *** order to illustrate the proficiency and reliability of the considered scheme,the numerical simulation has been *** obtained results illuminate that the considered method is easy to apply and more effective to examine the nature of multi-dimensional differential equations of fractional order arisen in connected areas of science and technology.

The pivotal aim of the present investigation is to find an approximate analytical solution for the system of three fractional differential equations describing the Lakes pollution using q-homotopy analysis transform method(q-HATM).We consider three different cases of the considered model namely,periodic input model,exponentially decaying input model,and linear input *** considered scheme is unifications of q-homotopy analysis technique with Laplace transform(LT).To illustrate the existence and uniqueness for the projected model,we consider the fixed point *** preciously,we scrutinized the behaviour of the obtained solution for the considered model with fractional-order,in order to elucidate the effectiveness of the proposed ***,for the different fractional-order and parameters offered by the considered method,the physical natures have been *** obtained consequences evidence that the proposed method is very effective and highly methodical to study and examine the nature and its corresponding consequences of the system of fractional order differential equations describing the real word problems.

Under natural circumstances, the bed of fluvial river is composed of nonuniform sediment, and its nonuniform property influences very much the bed resistance and flow characteristics. By using a one-dimensional laser velocimeter, flume experiments are carried out to analyze the resistance characteristics of open channel flow with the bed sediment composed of different representative particles and having different nonuniform properties. By means of separating factors, the factors affecting the bed resistance, including particle diameter, nonuniform property and flow conditions, are studied. A great number of laboratory test results and field data from other investigators have been analyzed.

Fe-Co rich particles in the Alnico8 samples thermomagnetically treated for various times at 800 °C have been found to be of self-similarity and of fractal characteristics both in two-dimensional space and three-dimensional space. Fe-Co rich particles for 1.5, 3 and 5 min treatment have also shown a different fractal nature both in two-dimensional space and three-dimensional space as compared with the case for 10 min, which implies that Fe-Co rich particles evolve through different kinetic mechanisms. The fractal dimensions for 1.5, 3 and 5 min as well as 10 min treatment derived from the SAXS data in three-dimensional space are in agreement with the theoretical dimensions for two models introduced respectively. The fractal dimensions in two-dimensional space greater than the theoretical ones for two models can be attributed to the strong anisotropy of Fe-Co rich particle evolution in three-dimensional space.

Background: The evolution of sexual signals is not only determined by immediate sexual selection but also by selection arising from the environment and the interaction with developmental *** this study we aimed to investigate how the badge size of male house sparrows(Passer domesticus) is correlated to avian malaria infections as well as to prenatal testosterone exposure,measured as the 2d:4d d.git *** rationale behind this study is that the immunosuppressive effect of maternal testosterone deposition combined with the fitness cost imposed by parasites may cause important trade-offs to the development of secondary sexual ***: Assuming that vector abundance is a key variable associated with infection risk by avian malaria,we caught adult male sparrows from eight different populations in the Camargue,France,four of which were located in a vector-controlled area,and the other four in an untreated *** each bird we measured its badge size,d.git ratio and took blood to determine its infections *** used PCR to identify the malaria parasite species and strain that caused the ***: Contrary to our expectation,prevalence of disease did not differ across the vector-treatment regions,with around 80 % of birds being infected in both areas,and those infections were caused largely by a single strain,Plasmodium relictum *** infected birds had a badge size not significantly different from uninfected males,there was a condition-dependent association between badge size,infection status and maternal testosterone ***: This study illustrates that the complexity of temporal and ecological dimensions makes the relationships between disease,testosterone-related traits and secondary sexual signals that have been previously reported less general than thought.

Power loss and voltage uncertainty are the major issues prevalently faced in the design of distribution *** such issues can be resolved through effective usage of networking reconfiguration that has a combination of distributed.generation(dg)units from distribution *** this point of view,optimal placement and sizing of dgs are effective ways to boost the performance of power *** optimum allocation of dgs resolves various problems namely,power loss,voltage profile improvement,enhanced reliability,system stability,and *** research works have been conducted to address the distribution system problems in terms of power loss,energy loss,voltage profile,and voltage stability depending upon optimal dg *** this motivation,the current study designs a Chaotic Artificial Flora Optimization based on Optimal Placement and Sizing of dgs(CAFO-OPSdg)to enhance the voltage profiles and mitigate the power ***,the CAFO algorithm is derived from the incorporation of chaos theory concept into conventional artificial flora optimization AFO algorithm with an aim to enhance the global optimization *** fitness function of CAFO-OPSdg algorithm involves voltage regulation,power loss minimization,and penalty *** consider the actual power system scenario,the penalty factor acts as an important element not only to minimize the total power loss but to increase the voltage profiles as *** experimental validation of the CAFO-OPSdg algorithm was conducted against IEEE 33 Bus system and IEEE 69 Bus *** outcomes were examined under various test *** results of the experiment established that the presented CAFO-OPSdg model is effective in terms of reducing the power loss and voltage deviation and boost-up the voltage profile for the specified system.

A shrinkage estimator and a maximum likelihood estimator are proposed in this paper for combination of bioassays. The shrinkage estimator is obtained in closed form which incorporates prior information just on the common log relative potency after the homogeneity test for combination of bioassays is accepted. It is a practical improvement over other estimators which require iterative procedure to obtain the estimator for the relative potency. A real data is also used to show the superiorities for the newly-proposed procedures.
