Performance bounds for Nash equilibria in submodular utility systems with user groups

There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal dOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Electrochemical drag effect on grain boundary motion in ionic ceramics

The effects of drag imposed by extrinsic ionic species and point defects on the grain boundary motion of ionic polycrystalline ceramics were quantified for the generality of electrical,chemical,or structural driving *** the absence of,or for small driving forces,the extended electrochemical grain boundary remains pinned and symmetrically distributed about the structural *** the grain boundary begins to move,charged defects accumulate unsymmetrically about the structural grain boundary *** the critical driving force for motion,grain boundaries progressively shed individual ionic species,from heavier to lighter,until they display no interfacial electrostatic charge and zero Schottky *** p-n junction moving grain boundaries that induce a finite electrostatic potential difference across entire grains are identified for high velocity *** developed theory is demonstrated for Fe-doped SrTiO_(3).The increase in average Fe concentration and grain boundary crystallographic misorientation enhances grain boundary core segregation and results in thick space charge layers,which leads to a stronger drag force that reduces the velocity of the *** developed theory sets the stage to assess the effects of externally applied fields such as temperature,electromagnetic fields,and chemical stimuli to control the grain growth for developing textured,oriented microstructures desirable for a wide range of applications.

MULTI-FACILITY ORdEREd MEdIAN PROBLEMS IN dIRECTEd NETWORKS

This paper uses a finite dominating set （FdS） to investigate the multi-facility ordered median problem （OMP） in a strongly connected directed network. The authors first prove that the multi-facility OMP has an FdS in the node set, which not only generalizes the FdS result provided by Kalcsics, et al. （2002）, but also extends the FdS result from the single-facility Case to the multiple case, filling an important gap. Then, based on this FdS result, the authors develop an exact algorithm to solve the problem. However, if the number of facilities is large, it is not practical to find the optimal solution, because the multi-facility OMP in directed networks is NP-hard. Hence, we present a constant-approximation algorithm for the p-median problem in directed networks. Finally, we pose an open problem for future research.

Comprehensive Characterization of Natural Cissus quadrangularis Stem Fiber Composites as an Alternate for Conventional FRP Composites

Health and sustainability are the major concerns that drive researchers to find novel materials to replace artificial hazardous materials. In this investigation, the mechanical properties of Cissus quadrangularis Stem Fiber （CQSF） reinforced with unsaturated polyester composite were optimized by varying the fiber length and content. To substantiate the findings, chemical property, thermal property, microstructure, and water absorption property were analyzed. Progressive enhancement of mechanical properties was observed with increasing the fiber content and fiber length up to 30 wt.% and 40 ram. However, beyond that limit, there was a decline in the strength due to improper bonding of fiber with matrix. Optimal values of mechanical property for CQSF composite were obtained at 30 wt.% fiber content and 40 mm fiber length, which are comparable with that of common artificial fiber-reinforced polymer composites.

Hypothetical mode of action of earthworm extract with hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties

The hepatoprotective potential of earthworm extract (EE) (Lampito mauritii, Kinberg) was evaluated against paracetamol-induced liver injury in Wistar albino rat, in comparison with silymarin, the standard hepatoprotective drug. We observed a reduction in liver antioxidants, such as glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOd), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase (CAT) and in serum total protein, and an increase in serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), serum aspertate aminotranferase (AST), serum alanine aminotranferase (ALT), bilirubin and liver thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) due to liver injury in the paracetamol-administered rats (2 g/kg). On the contrary, increased activities of liver GSH, SOd, GPx, CAT and serum total protein level, and decrease in the contents of serum ALP, AST, ALT, bilirubin and liver TBARS were observed in rats administered with different doses of EE (100, 200 and 300 mg/kg), which are similar to the activities of hepato-protective drug silymarin (150 mg/kg). The mode of action of EE as evidenced by the above parameters may suggest that EE, on the one hand, prevents the formation of the reactive oxygen groups, or scavenges these groups, thereby preventing the damage on the hepatic cells, and, on the other hand, modulates the genes responsible for synthesis of antioxidant enzymes such as GPx, CAT and SOd in liver tissue and decreases the serum enzymatic activities such as ALP, AST and ALT.

微博是一种非常流行的分享近期发生事情的信息的方式。微博内容是用来展示个人生活,广告或正在发生的真实事件。这个数据是非结构化的,有着大量的不断变化的主题,因此在发生突发的紧急事件时需要用有效且有效率的的方法从这些数据中分析出有意义的部分。大规模的事件,如灾难,或计划好的事件,如国家元首访问的其他国家,通常会引起大量群众发微博,对这样的事件检测起来会更加容易。而诸如交通线路更新,火灾,交通事故等小规模的事件不太被微博用户关注,因此更难以检测。道路交通事故在生活中时有发生,通常遇到的旁观者会发布在微博上,如果这些事故未得到及时响应,会造成交通拥堵,甚至人员伤亡。在本文中,提出了一种基于机器学习和自然语言处理技术的文本挖掘方法,用于从微博中及时检测道路交通事故,包括行人事故、摩托车事故、机动车辆事故和公路/高速公路上的任何其他的事故。在对与交通事故有关的推特进行文本分类时,采用的SVM方法具有平均90%的精度和89.1%的召回率,而位置提取方法使用句法分析通过名词短语和基于N-gram的匹配地图从微博内容中获取事故发生的地点,这一方法具有71.8%的精度和83.9%的召回率。基于上述方法,我们开发了一个名为交通事故检测系统(TAdS)的手机应用程序,用户可以通过查询即可定位事件发生地,系统最终会在肯尼亚内罗毕地图上显示该事件的发生位置.

Effect of 5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite on Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded with OBA-MCP

Introduction: Bracket debonding is a frequent issue that clinicians encounter, leading to increased chair time, lost revenue, and material usage. In addition to patient compliance with their diet recommendations, the preparation and conditioning of teeth for bonding significantly influence bond strength and consequently impact orthodontic treatment success and efficiency. Because of OBA-MCP’s (orthodontic bonding adhesive with modified calcium phosphate) decreased shear bond strength (SBS), the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of conditioning with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) before etching in the bonding protocol. Materials and Methods: 90 extracted teeth were divided into 3 groups to be bonded with orthodontic brackets with different bonding protocols: 1) Transbond XT with regular bonding protocol (etch + prime + adhesive);2) OBA-MCP with regular bonding protocol;and 3) OBA-MCP with NaOCl prior to acid etching in the regular bonding protocol. SBS (in Newtons) were measured using an MTS universal testing machine with a custom jig to apply a vertical force onto the bracket and ARI (adhesive remnant index) scores were recorded for each sample after de-bond to rate the amount of adhesive remaining. Results: The addition of NaOCl to the bonding protocol statistically significantly increased the SBS of OBA-MCP to comparable levels to Transbond XT. The ARI scores showed that when NaOCl was added, more adhesive remained. Conclusion: The addition of NaOCl to the bonding protocol can increase the SBS of adhesives with historically weaker bond strengths. However, the increased amount of adhesive remaining and the increased time spent during bonding must be considered. Further testing can be done in vivo to demonstrate the practicality of this new procedure.

The biocompatibility, durability, and strength, among others are some properties that render silk fibers of several uses such as bio medical （like sutures）, pharmaceutical and protective applications. Hence, for such applications silk maybe reproduced into film, gel powder, and most recently, nanofibers. Bombyx mori is the most common specie of silkworms, yielding fibers of triangular-shaped cross-section with diameter10-20μm. The regeneration process is aimed at giving fibroin with similar structure but with better properties relevant to intended applications. Among others, the degradation of fibroin, and loss of secondary structural conformation during regeneration was a hypothesized shortcoming. The first objective of this research was to successfully dissolve B. mori silk fibers and then reclaim it into gel and film forms. The second task was to dissolve the regenerated films and consequently electrospin into nano fibers. Structural studies on the morphology and the secondary crystallinity were the final rationale for the study, to assess the structural conformational changes from the original fibers. Two different solvents were used as a control measure to study consistency. The silk fibers were dissolved and regenerated successfully using aqueous LiBr and a ternary system of CaCl2:Water:MethanoL Electro spinning was done in formic acid, and the morphology of the resulting fibers was assessed by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The crystalline secondary structure of regenerated Bombyx mori fibroin （films and nanofibers） was evaluated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR） and Wide angle x-ray diffraction （WAXd）. Results showed that untreated regenerated fibroin in film and nanofibers is generally amorphous. It was also established that the regeneration process has a remarkable effect on the molecular weight and crystallinity of fibroin.
