Prevalence of Gender-Based Violence among sex Workers in Bangui, central African Republic (cAR)

Background: Violence against women has become an international public health and human rights issue in recent decades. The violence suffered by sex workers is of little interest for research, yet it constitutes a major health and safety problem. We propose to assess the extent of the phenomenon of gender-based violence (GBV) among sex workers (sWs) in the city of Bangui in the cAR. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional epidemiological study covering the period from July to October 2021 carried out among sWs in Bangui, the capital of the cAR. Given that the sWs association had only 159 members in Bangui, an exhaustive sampling was retained. Were included in the study, any sW present during the data collection period and having given their written consent. The parameters studied were socio-demographic characteristics: age, sex, residence, level of education, marital status, and characteristics linked to violence: the notion of violence during their professional activity, the type of violence, the declaration and the declaration if necessary, the response and management of this violence. The data collected was analyzed using Epi info version 7 software. Results: Of the 159 sWs that counted the association, 108 had been included. The average age was 27.0 years with extremes of 14 and 46 years. The age groups of 25 to 34 years were the most represented (43.5%). Fifty-six sWs (51.9%) had reached the secondary level. Unemployed sWs were in the majority at 74.1%;sixty-six (66) sWs in our sample (61.1%) had already been victims of violence during the exercise of their activity sexual violence was the most represented (28.5%) followed by verbal violence (22.4%). sixty-eight (62.9%) wanted to stop the professional activity of sWs and 93.1% would accept another income-generating activity in place of sex work. conclusion: It is necessary to supervise sWs and protect them within the framework of respect for human rights, rather than criminalizing them and the exploit

Are there sex-based disparities in cataract surgery?

Efficacy of a diabetes specific Nutritional supplement (dsNs) on Glycemic Response in Prediabetic Adults: A Two-Armed, Open-Labelled Randomized controlled study

It is well known that diabetes specific Nutritional supplements (dsNss) are linked to improved glycemic control in individuals with diabetes. However, data on efficacy of dsNss in prediabetics is limited. This was a two-armed, open-labelled, randomized controlled six-week study on 199 prediabetics [30 - 65 years;Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.7% - 6.4% and/or Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) 100-125 mg/dl]. Two parallel phases were conducted: Acute Blood Glucose Response (ABGR) and Intervention phase. Prediabetic participants were randomized into test (n = 100) and control (n = 99). The primary objective was to assess the ABGR of dsNs versus an isocaloric snack, measured by incremental Area under the curve (iAUc). Test and control received 60 g of dsNs and 56 g of isocaloric snack (cornflakes) respectively, both in 250 ml double-toned milk on visit days 1, 15, 29 and 43. Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPG) was estimated at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes. during the 4 weeks intervention phase, the test group received dsNs with lifestyle counselling (dsNs + Lc) and was compared with the control receiving lifestyle counselling alone (Lc alone). Impact was studied on FBG, HbA1c, anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, nutrient intake, and physical activity. The impact of dsNs was also studied using cGM between two 14-day phases: cGM1 baseline (days 1 - 14) and cGM2 endline (days 28 - 42). dsNs showed significantly lower PPG versus isocaloric snack at 30 (p 12, and chromium were reported by dsNs + Lc versus Lc alone. No other significant changes were reported between groups. It may be concluded that dsNs may be considered as a snack for prediabetic or hyperglycemic individuals requiring nutritional support for improved glycemic control.

The early Archean oceans were marked by significant redox changes which have subsequently shaped the Earth’s *** chemical sediments of banded Iron and Manganese formations provide important geochemical proxies for these historical shifts in the redox conditions and to trace the ancient sedimentation patterns and *** this study,we investigate the proto-ore of the Archean Mn-formations of the sandur,chitradurga and shimoga greenstone belts of dharwar craton of southern Peninsular India,which is geochemically characterised as quartz arenites,Mn-arenites,Fe-arenites,Mn-argillites and *** geochemical systematics suggest their deposition in shallow to deeper shelf in the Archean *** detrital zircon U-Pb systematics of Mn arenites and argillites indicate their maximum depositional age of 3230±52 Ma representing the oldest onset of sedimentation during the Paleo-Mesoarchean timeframe in the chitradurga Group of dharwar *** detrital influx proxies suggest variations in sedimentation rates associated with the Archean transgressive-regressive cycles and fluctuating hydrodynamic conditions,together reflecting an increasing trend in the contributions of recycled sediment from sandur to chitradurga and shimoga greenstone *** available detrital zircon ages of the Mn arenites and argillites from these greenstone belts indicate a~600 Ma prolonged period of Mn deposition for which high-T hydrothermal fluids from Archean mid-oceanic ridges supplied the *** trace element compositions of the concordant detrital zircons suggest 3.3-3.1 Ga dharwar basement TTG/granitoid source which is corroborated by the zircon crystallization temperatures of 690-820℃.The source-normalisedα-dose rates of the detrital zircons signify greater degrees of sediment transport and multi-cycle nature which correspond to the earliest episode of crustal growth in the Indian sub-continent associated with the Mesoarchean Ur supercontinent.T

Reversed-Phase-HPLc Assay Method for simultaneous Estimation of sorbitol, sodium Lactate, and sodium chlorides in Pharmaceutical Formulations and drug solution for Infusion

A rapid, straightforward, sensitive, efficient, and cost-effective reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method was employed for the simultaneous determination of sorbitol, sodium Lactate, and chlorides in a drug solution for infusion. sorbitol, sodium lactate, and chloride are all officially recognized in the UsP monograph. Assay methods are provided through various techniques, with titrations being ineffective for trace-level quantification. Alternatively, Ic, AAs, and IcP-Ms, though highly accurate, are costly and often unavailable to most testing facilities. When considering methods, it’s important to prioritize both quality control requirements and user-friendly techniques. A simple HPLc simultaneous method was developed for the quantification of chlorides, sorbitol, and sodium Lactate with a shorter run time. The separation utilized a shimpack scR-102(H) ion exclusion analytical column (7.9 mm × 300 mm, 7 μm), with a flow rate of 0.6 mL per min. The column compartment temperature was maintained at 40°c, and the injection volume was set at 10 μL, with detection at 200 nm. All measurements were conducted in a 0.1% solution of phosphoric acid. The analytical curves demonstrated linearity (r > 0.9999) in the concentration range of 0.79 to 3.8 mg per mL for sodium Lactate (sL), 0.16 to 0.79 mg per mL for sodium chloride (sc), and 1.5 to 7.2 mg per mL for sorbitol. Validation of the developed method followed the guidelines of the International conference on Harmonization (IcH Q2B) and UsP. The method exhibited precision, robustness, accuracy, and selectivity. In accelerated stability testing over 6 months, no significant variations were observed in organoleptic analysis and pH. consequently, the developed method is deemed suitable for routine quality control analyses, enabling the simultaneous determination of sodium Lactate, sodium chloride, and sorbitol in pharmaceutical formulations and infusions.
