Effect of piperine on the epididymis of adult male rats

Aim： To study the effect of piperine on the epididymal antioxidant system of adult male rats. Methods： Adult male rats were orally administered piperine at doses of 1 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight each day for 30 consecutive days. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment, the rats were weighed and killed with ether and the epididymis was dissected from the bodies. Sperm collected from the cauda region of the epididymis was used for the assessment of its count, motility and viability. caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis were separated and homogenized separately to obtain 10 % homogenates. The supernatants were used for the assays of sialic acid, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide generation. Results： Body weight of the piperine-treated rats remained unchanged. The weights of the caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis significantly decreased at dose of 100 mg/kg. Epididymal sperm count and motility decreased at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, and sperm viability decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg. Sialic acid levels in the epididymis decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg while significant decrease in the cauda region alone was observed at 10 mg/kg. A significant decline in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, along with an increase in hydrogen peroxide generation and lipid peroxidation were observed at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. conclusion： piperine caused a decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and sialic acid levels in the epididymis and thereby increased reactive oxygen species levels that could damage the epididymal environment and sperm function.

prospecting Exopolysaccharides produced by Selected Bacteria Associated with Marine Organisms for Biotechnological Applications

In this study, bacteria associated with marine organisms were screened for the production of exopolysaccharides（EpSs） on MY media containing sea salts（2.5%-10%）. Three selected isolates were identified as Alteromonas sp. pRIM-21, Nitratireductor sp. pRIM-24 and Enterobacter sp. pRIM-26 using 16 S r RNA gene sequencing. Optimization of the growth and EpS production kinetics in relation to incubation time were assessed. The purified EpS yield was 590, 650 and 540 mg·L-1 culture media respectively in Alteromonas sp. pRIM-21, Nitratireductor sp. pRIM-24 and Enterobacter sp. pRIM-26. Biochemical and FTIR analyses revealed the presence of biologically important functional groups in the EpS produced by all the three isolates. The EpS produced by Nitratireductor sp. pRIM-24 and Alteromonas sp. pRIM-21 showed 2.0% sulfate content. These bacterial EpS also showed antioxidant and emulsifying activities and the EpS produced by Enterobacter ***-26 showed significantly higher antioxidant activities in terms of superoxide（Ic50 0.33 mg·mL -1） and dppH（Ic50 0.44 mg·mL -1） radical scavenging. It also showed higher emulsifying activities against selected hydrophobic substrates with EI24 values above 60%. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the isolated bacteria produce EpS that can be investigated in detail for biotechnological applications.

Mechanically durable transparent electrodes are essential for achieving long-term stability in flexible optoelectronic ***,they are crucial for applications in the fields of energy,display,healthcare,and soft *** meshes represent a promising alternative to traditional,brittle,metal oxide conductors due to their high electrical conductivity,optical transparency,and enhanced mechanical *** this paper,we present a simple method for fabricating an ultra-transparent conducting metal oxide mesh electrode using selfcracking-assisted *** this method,we produced an electrode with ultra-transparency(97.39%),high conductance(Rs=21.24Ωsq^(−1)),elevated work function(5.16 eV),and good mechanical *** also evaluated the effectiveness of the fabricated electrodes by integrating them into organic photovoltaics,organic light-emitting diodes,and flexible transparent memristor devices for neuromorphic computing,resulting in exceptional device *** addition,the unique porous structure of the vanadium-doped indium zinc oxide mesh electrodes provided excellent flexibility,rendering them a promising option for application in flexible optoelectronics.

developments in processing of Functionally Gradient Metals and Metal–ceramic composites:A Review

Functionally gradient/graded materials （FGMs）, an emerging new class of materials, are the outcome of the recent innovative concepts in materials technology. FGMs are in their early stages of evolution and expected to have a strong impact on the design and development of new components and structures with better performance. FGMs exhibit gradual transitions in the microstructure and/or the composition in a specific direction, the presence of which leads to variation in the functional performance within a part. The presence of gradual transitions in material composition in FGMs can reduce or eliminate the deleterious stress concentrations and result in a wide gradation of physical and/or chemical properties within the material. Functionally graded metal-ceramic composites are also getting the attention of the researchers. Among the fabrication routes for FGMs such as chemical vapour deposition, physical vapour deposition, the sol-gel technique, plasma spraying, molten metal infiltration, self propagating high temperature synthesis, spray forming, centrifugal casting, etc., the ones based on solidification route are preferred for FGMs because of their economics and capability to make large size products. The present paper discusses and compares various solidification processing tech- niques available for the fabrication of functionally gradient metals and metal-ceramic composites and lists their properties and possible applications. The other processing methods are briefly described.

XRd Synchrotron Study of carbide precipitation in Martensitic Steels during Tempering

In order to improve the knowledge of the precipitation mechanism in martensitic steels containing carbon,XRd synchrotron experiments were performed. Firstly, the influence of Ni,co and Al were studied and it was found that the precipitation of iron carbides occurs in same way as in Fe-c steel. However, with the addition of molybdenum and chromium in same steels, XRd synchrotron investigations clearly showed alloyed carbides directly precipitate, thereby preventing the iron carbides formation.

The development of a narrow channel or slit due to piping just underneath the base of levees channel has been reported to be useful to withstand the increase in the head beyond critical head conditions. Also, the maximum slit length has been emphasized to be up to half of the base width. By developing a model of critical head considering slit, it is found that the critical head can increase with the development of slit length only under certain conditions. Analysis of piping failure data indicates that the critical head expressions considering slit length constitute a potentially useful model for critical head.

Microstructure, Mechanical and corrosion properties of AlcocrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy prepared by Spark plasma Sintering

AlcocrFeNi is one of the most widely studied alloy systems in the high-entropy alloy(HEA) area due to the interesting microstructure and mechanical *** this study,the AlcocrFeNi alloy was prepared using spark plasma sintering(SpS) with pre-alloy powders obtained through gas ***,the sintered samples were annealed at 700,800 and900℃,and the effect of annealing temperature on the microstructure,mechanical and corrosion properties was *** results show that phase formation takes place during annealing process with the new phase(σ) and some nano scale Bcc precipitates *** size and quantity of the nanoscale precipitates increase with increasing annealing *** twin is also observed after annealing at 900℃.The annealing temperature has an obvious effect on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the spark plasma sintered AlcocrFeNi *** the annealing temperature is 700℃,the hardness,yield strength and fracture strength reach the maximum with the value of 545 HV,1430 Mpa and 2230 Mpa,*** compressive ratio reaches the maximum of 17.2%,with the annealing temperature increasing to 800℃.The corrosion resistance of the samples decreases with increasing the annealing temperature.

Quaternary glacial records in mountain regions：A formal stratigraphical approach

Glacial deposits in locally-glaciated mountain regions are often expressed through their surface form and the study of these deposits constitutes a major branch of geomorphology. Studies of glacial depositional records in mountain areas have often neglected formal stratigraphical procedure resulting in an ad hoc development of quasi-stratigraphical nomenclature. Here, a formal stratigraphical procedure is recommended, since this enables a systematic approach to the subdivision of glacial deposits in mountain regions. Moreover, such an approach facilitates, in some instances, the development of a formal chronostratigraphy that can be compared to regional and global geological time scales. This is important in locally-glaciated mountain regions where glacial deposits represent one of the most important records of cold stage environments. Given that glacial landforms represent a key component of the Quaternary record, maintaining a formal link between geomorphological and geological stratigraphical procedure is a fundamental requirement of a consistent and comparable stratigraphical framework.
