during the past few decades, it has become clear that the distribution, sizes, and masses of cosmic structures are best described as fractal rather than homogeneous. This means that an entirely different formalism is needed to replace the standard perturbation model of structure formation. Recently, we have been developing a model of cosmology that accounts for a large number of the observed properties of the universe. A key component of this model is that fractal structures that later regulated the creation of both matter and radiation came into existence during the initial Planck-era inflation. Initially, the vacuum was the only existence and since time, distance, and energy were uncertain, its only property, the curvature (or energy), was most likely distributed randomly. Everything that happened after the Planck era can be described by the known laws of physics so the remaining fundamental problem is to discover how such a random beginning could organize itself into the hierarchy of highly non-random self-similar structures on all length scales that are necessary to explain the existence of all cosmic structures. In this paper, we present a variation of the standard sandpile model that points to a solution. Incidental to our review of the distributions of cosmic structures, we discovered that the apparent transition from a fractal to a homogeneous distribution of structures at a distance of about 150 Mpc is a consequence of the finite size of the universe rather than a change in the underlying statistics of the distributions.

The article addresses the output-feedback control issue for a class of multi-input multi-output(MIMO)uncertain nonlinear systems with multiple event-triggered mechanisms(ETM).compared to previous event-triggering studies,this paper aims to trigger both the output and filtered *** nonlinear dynamics are approximated using fuzzy logic systems(FLSs).Then,a novel kind of state observer has been designed to deal with unmeasurable state problems using the triggered output *** sampled estimated state,the triggered output signal,and the filtered signal are utilized to propose an event-triggering mechanism that consists of sensor-to-observer(SO)and observer-to-controller(Oc).An event-triggered output feedback control approach is given inside backstepping control,whereby the filter may be employed to circumvent the issue of the virtual control function not being differentiable at the trigger *** is testified that,according to the Lyapunov stability analysis scheme,all closed-loop signals and the system output are ultimately uniformly constrained by our control ***,the simulation examples are performed to confirm the theoretical findings.

The attenuation of the acoustic activity in marble specimens under uniaxial compressive loadingunloading loops is quantified in juxtaposition to that of the electric activity. In parallel, the existence of ‘‘pre-failure indiceso warning about entrance into a critical stage, that of impending fracture, is explored. The acoustic activity is quantified in terms of the normalized number of acoustic hits, their average rate of production and their cumulative energy, and, the cumulative counts and their average rate of change. The electric activity is studied in terms of the pressure stimulated currents and the electric charge released. The analysis revealed that the acoustic and electric activities are linearly correlated to each other, suggesting that they are different manifestations of the same damage mechanisms. In addition, Kaiser's effect, governing the acoustic activity, is found to govern, also, the electric ***, it is concluded that entrance into the critical stage is safely predicted by means of a simple criterion, based on the evolution of the average rate of change of the normalized cumulative counts in the natural time domain. These predictions are almost identical with those of the criterion based on the‘‘varianceo and the ‘‘entropieso of the time series of acoustic events in this domain.

This article constructs statistical selection procedures for exponential populations that may differ in only the threshold parameters. The scale parameters of the populations are assumed common and known. The independent samples drawn from the populations are taken to be of the same size. The best population is defined as the one associated with the largest threshold parameter. In case more than one population share the largest threshold, one of these is tagged at random and denoted the best. Two procedures are developed for choosing a subset of the populations having the property that the chosen subset contains the best population with a prescribed probability. One procedure is based on the sample minimum values drawn from the populations, and another is based on the sample means from the populations. An “Indifference Zone” (IZ) selection procedure is also developed based on the sample minimum values. The IZ procedure asserts that the population with the largest test statistic (e.g., the sample minimum) is the best population. With this approach, the sample size is chosen so as to guarantee that the probability of a correct selection is no less than a prescribed probability in the parameter region where the largest threshold is at least a prescribed amount larger than the remaining thresholds. Numerical examples are given, and the computer R-codes for all calculations are given in the Appendices.
