Effect of serum γ-glutamyltranferase and albumin levels on the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy in the elderly

Background Several liver function tests have been identified as predictors of hospitalization for heart failure(HF) and death in patients with chronic HF. The relationship between serum γ-glutamyltranferase(GGT) and albumin(SA) levels with the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT) has not been reliably determined. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of liver function tests on the results of CRT in the elderly. Methods Baseline GGT and SA were assessed before CRT device implantation in the elderly(> 70-year-old) patients. The endpoints were:(1) CRT response defined as > 5% left ventricular ejection fraction improvement and no hospitalization for HF or cardiovascular death;(2) hospitalizations;and(3) mortality. Results Eighty of 138(58%) included patients were responders at nine months. Compared to responders, the SA levels were not significantly different(35.1 ± 5.4 vs. 33.6 ± 5.5 g/L, P = 0.103);but the GGT levels, higher(81.6 ± 69.3 vs. 54.7 ± 49.6 U/L, P = 0.013) in non-responders to CRT. GGT level was independently associated with non-response to CRT(P dictive of non-response [AUC = 0.65, 64% Sensitivity, 69% Specificity(95% CI: 0.56–0.74)]. GGT ≥ 55 U/L was also associated with higher risk of hospitalization for atrial fibrillation(AF)(95% vs. 83%, P = 0.024). Both SA and GGT had no impact on overall(P = 0.220, P = 0.723) mortality. Conclusions Higher level of GGT is an independent predictor of non-response to CRT in patients over age 70 years and is associated with higher risk of hospitalization for AF. Baseline serum levels of albumin and GGT and have no impact on mortality in elderly patients undergoing CRT.

Cadmium sulfide（Cd S） thin films have been prepared by a simple technique such as chemical bath deposition（CBd）. A set of samples Cd S were deposited on glass substrates by varying the bath temperature from 55 to 75 °C at fixed deposition time（25 min） in order to investigate the effect of deposition temperature on Cd S films physical properties. The determination of growth activation energy suggests that at low temperature Cd S film growth is governed by the release of Cd^（2＋） ions in the solution. The structural characterization indicated that the Cd S films structure is cubic or hexagonal with preferential orientation along the direction（111） or（002）, respectively. The optical characterization indicated that the films have a fairly high transparency, which varies between55% and 80% in the visible range of the optical spectrum, the refractive index varies from 1.85 to 2.5 and the optical gap value of which can reach 2.2 e V. It can be suggested that these properties make these films perfectly suitable for their use as window film in thin films based solar cells.

Flammulina velutipes and Auricularia polytricha are two popular dietary mushrooms,especially in the Northeast of *** have revealed many pharmacological effects due to their bioactive compounds,but their possible mechanism of action involved in inflammation remains poorly ***,Inflammatory bowel disease(IBd)which is a chronic disease and progressive inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract were used to evaluate their anti-inflammatory and modulatory properties on the intestinal microbiota via the signaling pathways involved by oral administration of ***(Fve)and ***(APE).Mice were daily received 3%dSS in the drinking water followed by the daily administration of Fve and *** food consumption,weight variation and dAI score were assessed during the experiment and inflammatory parameters,mRNA and protein expressions to determine the possible signaling pathways involved,and the gut microbiota from the cecum by high-throughput *** showed that APE and Fve improved clinical symptoms,inflammatory cytokines and oxidative *** also attenuated the mRNA and proteins expressions in colon ***,APE and Fve regulated dSS-induced intestinal dysbiosis and stimulated the SCFAs ***,APE and Fve could improve dSS-induced IBd in mice suggesting that they represent novels therapeutic drugs and could be used as prebiotic to modulate the gut microbiota and preserve intestinal integrity.

Of many metabolic irregularity risk factors,glucose intolerance,insulin resistance,and abdominal obesity are the main *** risk of vascular diseases and cancers is rather high in such individuals therefore its treatment and prevention are equally important for the health of *** including fish biopeptides have frequently shown to prevent and or ameliorate these risk *** our earlier studies,Atlantic mackerel hydrolysate and its fractions showed promising effects on immunity and ***,therefore,in the current study,aimed to examine the effects of mackerel hydrolysate along its cationic peptides,isolated at pH3 using electrodialysis with ultrafiltration membrane,on metabolic disorder factors in diet-induced insulin resistant obese *** were fed the chow and or the hypercaloric diet (high fat high sucrose) for the duration of *** the hypercaloric fed insulin resistant obese mice were gavaged daily either the vehicle and or the test material at the dosage of 208 mg of sample protein per kg mice body *** to our observations,mackerel peptides could not effectively modulate food intake,weight gain,adiposity,plasma glucose and insulin concentrations,hepatic cholesterol,and triglyceride ***,obesity and metabolic impairments could not be averted by the treatments in insulin resistant obese *** conclusion,anti-hypertensive,and immunomodulatory attributes of mackerel peptides at the tested concentrations do not seem to be correlated with its metabolic syndrome benefiting *** presume a general statement about the metabolic syndrome benefiting potency of Atlantic mackerel's biopeptides further research is warranted.

The aim of the study was to compare the effects of total substitution of fish meal and fish oil by plant ingredients in two lines of rainbow trout selected for high or low muscle fat content. Triplicate groups of each line(IBW:72-88g) were fed for seven months with two diets either high in marine products(M:30%fish meal and 70%fish oil) or totally devoid of marine products(V: 100%plant protein sources and vegetable oils).As observed previously,the lean muscle line(L) grew faster than the fat muscle line(F) irrespective of the *** both lines,feeding the totally plant-based diet V resulted in lower growth rate than the marine-based diet M with a lower feed *** body and muscle lipid contents were higher in the F line whereas viscerosomatic index was higher in the L *** plant based diet induced an increase in fat level in the muscle and the whole body only in the F *** were several differences between lines regarding muscle fatty acid composition with more saturated and monoenes and less C18:2 n-6, EPA,dHA in the F line compared to the L *** the n3/n6 ratio was lower in F line than in L *** expected,the dietary treatments affected the fatty acid composition of muscle lipids:less saturated FA(C14:0,C16:0),EPA,dHA and more C18:l,C18:2 n-6,C18:3 n-3 with the diet V and thus a lower ratio n-3/n-6 compared to diet *** observed an interaction between line and diet for several FA:18:1,18:2 n-6,EPA and for r:-3/n-6 *** both diets contained similar amounts of astaxanthin,the marine ingredients-based diet M resulted in significantly higher values for all the colour parameters,lightness,hue and chroma than the plant-based *** volatile profiles of the flesh determined by electronic nose analysis showed that the incorporation of plant ingredients affect the olfactive fingerprint only in fish with high muscle lipid content(fat line).These results highlight differences between lines in their response to the plant based d

Long-term variations and trends in a wide range of statistics for daily precipitation characteristics in terms of intensity, frequency and duration in Finland were analysed using precipitation records during 1908e2008 from 3 meteorological stations in the south(Kaisaniemi),centre(Kajaani) and north(Sodankyl€a). Although precipitation days in northern part were more frequent than in central and southern parts, daily precipitation intensity in the south was generally higher than those in the centre and north of the country. Annual sum of very light precipitation(0 mm daily precipitation long-term 50 th percentile of daily precipitation more than 0 mm) significantly( p decreased over time,with the highest rate in northern Finland. These decreasing trends might be the result of significant increases in frequency of days with very light precipitation at all the stations, with the highest and lowest rates in northern and southern Finland, respectively. Ratio of annual total precipitation to number of precipitation days also declined in Finland over 1908e2008, with a decreasing north to south gradient. However, annual duration indices of daily precipitation revealed no statistically significant trends at any station. daily precipitation characteristics showed significant relationships with various well-known atmospheric circulation patterns(ACPs). In particular, the East Atlantic/West Russia(EA/WR)pattern in summer was the most influential ACP negatively associated with different daily precipitation intensity, frequency and duration indices at all three stations studied.
