This paper presents characteristic features of the explosion of thin flat foils for currents and pulse risetimes ranging from 8 kA at 350 ns to1000 kA at ∼100 ns. Foils made of aluminum, copper, nickel, and titanium with thicknesses of 1–100 μm are tested. Various diagnostics inthe optical, UV, and x-ray spectral ranges are used to image the exploding foils from initial breakdown to complete destruction or *** is shown that foil explosion is a complex process that depends on many factors, but features common to all foils are found that do notdepend on the parameters of the generators or, accordingly, on the energy deposited in the foil: for example, the breakdown of flat foils underdifferent conditions occurs at the edges of the foil. For the first time, the formation of a precursor over the central part of the foil is shown,which significantly changes the dynamics of the foil explosion.

Background The Alere PBP2a SA Culture Colony Test is an FdA-cleared in vitro immunochromatographic assay for rapid detection of penicillin-binding protein2a(PBP2a)in Staphylococcus *** We investigated the performance of the PBP2a SA Culture Colony Test with 78 coagulase-negative Staphylococcus(CoNS)isolates from different body sites,with the Vitek 2 Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test(AST)as a reference *** The CoNS species were 62 ***;6 ***;3 ***;2 ***;2 ***;and 1 each of ***,***,and *** the 78 CoNS isolates,68 showed concordance in the PBP2a IC assay and Vitek 2 *** was seen for 10 *** isolates,which showed negative in the PBP2a assay,despite oxacillin-resistance detection using the Vitek 2 AST(66.7%sensitivity and 100%specificity).All *** CoNS were identified with 100%concordance using the PBP2a IC assay and Vitek 2 *** We demonstrated that,while the PBP2a IC assay has low sensitivity in determining the susceptibility of *** to oxacillin,it highly accurately predicted the susceptibility of *** CoNS to *** diagnostic accuracy for *** CoNS needs further assessment with more isolates to confirm our findings.

Experimental studies on full-scale straw-bale walls have demonstrated the adequacy of straw-bale wall systems for resisting lateral loads from wind or seismic *** to the performance of the wall system is the anchorage of mesh reinforcement to the bottom plate and to the roof bearing assembly or top *** in this paper are the results of experiments examining mesh strength,anchorage strength,and failure mode for a variety of reinforcement meshes(steel,plastic,and hemp)and anchorage *** of the potential for new wood preservative pressure treatments to cause corrosion,stainless steel staples driven pneumatically into pressure-treated sill plates were tested in addition to electro-galvanized staples driven pneumatically into untreated sill plates and a heavier gauge staple driven manually into an untreated sill *** anchorage details are identified,considering not only the test results but also the many other factors that must be considered in developing reliable,economical,and constructible details.

In this work,we fabricated and characterized bioactive 3d glass-ceramic scaffolds with inherent antibacterial *** sol-gel(solution-gelation)technique and the sacrificial template method were applied for the fabrication of 3d highly porous scaffolds in the 58.6SiO2-24.9CaO-7.2P2O5-4.2Al2O3–1.5Na2O−1.5K2O–2.1Ag2O system(Ag-BG).This system is known for its advanced bioactive and antibacterial *** fabrication of 3d scaffolds has potential applications that impact tissue *** study of the developed scaffolds from macro-characteristics to nano-,revealed a strong correlation between the macroscale properties such as antibacterial action,bioactivity with the microstructural characteristics such as elemental analysis,*** homogeneity,morphological,and microstructural characteristics of the scaffolds were studied by scanning electron microscopy associated with energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EdS),transmittance electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRd),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and UV-visible spectroscopy *** compressive strength of the 3d scaffolds was measured within the range of values for glass-ceramic scaffolds with similar compositions,porosity,and pore *** capability of the scaffolds to form an apatite-like phase was tested by immersing the scaffolds in simulated body fluid(SBF)and the antibacterial response against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)was *** formation of an apatite phase was observed after two weeks of immersion in SBF and the anti-MRSA effect occurs after both direct and indirect exposure.

The history and geographical origin of citron （Citrus medica L.） is still unknown but most of authors agree that it originated in Southeast Asia. There are different opinions about the exact period and the steps by which it was brought from its country of origin to the Mediterranean basin where it is cultivated in Corsica, Crete and in southern Italy （Calabria region）. In particulary, Citrus medica ＇diamante＇ grows, almost exclusively, in a restricted area of the Tyrrhenian cost of the region Calabria, called ＂Riviera dei Cedri＂, a relevant local economic district. This citron has been and is, still being used by Jews for worship during the Feast of Tabernacles, a very important religious ritual, where it plays a prominent part; in fact, for this holiday of Sukkot, the use of the authentic citron that grows in Calabria region is recommended, because it is not grafted. In this paper, the fascinating history of C. medica and its spread from the centers of origin to the Mediterranean is reported with the aim to investigate the religious and cultural significance of the C. medica ＇diamante＇, an exclusive and historical heritage of the Calabria region.

BACKGROUNd TreXTAM®is a combination of the key regulatory cytokine transforming growth factor beta(TGFβ)and all trans retinoic acid(ATRA)microencapsulated for oral delivery to immune structures of the *** is in development as a novel treatment for inflammatory bowel disease(IBd).AIM To measure TGFβlevels in blood and tissue after oral administration of encapsulated TGFβ.METHOdS Animals were orally administered encapsulated TGFβby *** of drug substance in blood and in gut tissues at various times after administration were measured by *** We made the surprising discovery that oral administration of TreXTAM dramatically(approximately 50%)and significantly(P=0.025)reduced TGFβlevels in colon,but not small intestine or mesenteric lymph ***,levels in rat serum after 25 d of thrice weekly dosing with either TreXTAM,or microencapsulated TGFβalone(denoted as TPX6001)were significantly(Pduced from baseline *** tested in the SCId mouse Cd4+Cd25-adoptive cell transfer(ACT)model of IBd,oral TPX6001 alone provided only a transient benefit in terms of reduced weight *** These observations suggest a negative feedback mechanism in the gut whereby local delivery of TGFβresults in reduced local and systemic levels of the active form of TGFβ.Our findings suggest potential clinical implications for use of encapsulated TGFβ,perhaps in the context of IBd and/or other instances of fibrosis and/or pathological TGFβsignaling.
