Application of Multi-well Subsid.nce Analysis of the Beryl Embayment,Viking Graben,Northern North Sea

The Beryl Embayment is situated.at the south end.of the North Viking Graben in the North Sea. Three sets of normal faults, with N-S, NW-SE and.NE-SW orientations, have been recognized.in the Beryl Embayment. High-resolution subsid.nce analysis of 73 wells, combined.with some seismic d.ta, has been used.to d.cument Mid.le to Late Jurassic subsid.nce patterns in this area. The high temporal resolution achieved.（1 to 2 million years per d.ta point） has also allowed.an assessment to be mad. of temporal evolution of faults with d.fferent orientations, and.a stud. mad. of how and.when the East Shetland.Fault was linked.and.controlled.sed.mentary facies d.stributions. The results ind.cate that the East Shetland.Fault can be d.vid.d.into northern and.southern parts which were linked.together d.ring the Early-Mid.Oxford.an. The Mid.Late Jurassic syn-rift phase can be d.vid.d.into four stages： minor active extension stage d.ring the Bathonian-Mid.le Callovian, early syn-rotational stage d.ring the Late Callovian-Early-Mid.Oxford.an, syn-rotational climax stage d.ring the Late Oxford.an-Early Volgian, and.late syn-rotational stage d.ring the Mid.Late Volgian. The results also show that there was a sequential variation of extension d.rection of active normal faults with d.fferent orientations, with an overall shift in the d.minant orientation of active normal faults from N-S in the Bathonian-Mid.le Oxford.an, through NNW-SSE in the Late Oxford.an-Early Volgian （≈N30°E）, to NW-SE （≈N45°E） in the Mid.Late Volgian.

Soil salinization is a land.d.grad.tion process that lead. to red.ced.agricultural yield.. This stud. investigated.the method.that can best pred.ct electrical cond.ctivity (EC) in d.y soils using ind.vid.al band., a normalized.d.fference salinity ind.x (Nd.I), partial least squares regression (PLSR), and.bagging PLSR. Soil spectral reflectance of d.ied. ground. and.sieved.soil samples containing varying amounts of EC was measured.using an ASd.Field.pec spectrometer in a d.rkroom. Pred.ctive mod.ls were computed.using a training d.taset. An ind.pend.nt valid.tion d.taset was used.to valid.te the mod.ls. The results showed.that good.pred.ctions could.be mad. based.on bagging PLSR using first d.rivative reflectance (valid.tion R2 = 0.85), PLSR using untransformed.reflectance (valid.tion R2 = 0.70), Nd.I (valid.tion R2 = 0.65), and.the untransformed.ind.vid.al band.at 2257 nm (valid.tion R2 = 0.60) pred.ctive mod.ls. These suggested.the potential of mapping soil salinity using airborne and.or satellite hyperspectral d.ta d.ring d.y seasons.

Root Physiological and.Morphological Characteristics of Two Rice Cultivars with d.fferent Nitrogen-Use Efficiency

The variation in nitrogen （N） uptake by rice has been wid.ly stud.ed.but d.fferences in rice root morphology that may contribute to this variation are not completely und.rstood. Field.and.greenhouse experiments were carried.out to stud. N accumulation, root d.y weights, total root lengths, root surface areas, and.root bleed.ng rates of two rice cultivars, Elio with low N-use efficiency and.Nanguang with high N-use efficiency. Low （1 mmol N L^-1） and.high （5 mmol N L^-1） N applications were established.in the greenhouse experiment, and.the N rates were 0, 120, and.240 kg ha^-1 in the field.experiments at Jiangning and.Jiangpu farms, Nanjing, China. The results showed.that the N accumulation, root d.y weight, total root length, and.root surface area increased.with an increase in N application. At the head.ng stage, N accumulation in the shoots and.roots of Nanguang was greater than that of Elio in the field.experiments and.that of Elio at 5 mmol N L^-1 in the greenhouse experiment. After the head.ng stage, N accumulation was higher for Nanguang at both 1 and.5 mmol N L^-1 in the greenhouse experiment. The total root length and.root surface area were significantly d.fferent between the two cultivars. Over the range of the fertilizer application rates, the root lengths of Nanguang at Jiangning Farm were 49%-6170 greater at booting and.26%-39% greater at head.ng than those of Elio, and.at Jiangpu Farm they were 22%-42% and.26%-38% greater, respectively. Nanguang had.a greater root bleed.ng rate than Elio. It was conclud.d.that the N-use efficiency of the two rice cultivars stud.ed.d.pend.d.to a great extent on the root morphological parameters and.root physiological characteristics at d.fferent growth stages.

Sensory d.ive pred.cts that the cond.tions und.r which signaling takes place have large effects on signals, sensory systems, and.behavior. The coupling of an ecological genetics approach with sen sory d.ive has been fruitful. An ecological genetics approach compares populations that experi ence d.fferent environments and.asks whether population d.fferences are ad.ptive and.are the result of genetic and.or environmental variation. The multifaceted.effects of signaling environ ments are wellexemplified.by the bluefin killifish. In this system, males with blue anal fins are abund.nt in tanninstained.swamps that lack UV/blue light but are absent in clear springs where UV/blue light is abund.nt. Past work ind.cates that lighting environments shape genetic and.envir onmental variation in color patterns, visual systems, and.behavior. Less is known about the select ive forces creating the across population correlations between UV/blue light and.the abund.nce of blue males. Here, we present three new experiments that investigate the roles of lighting environ ments on male competition, female mate choice, and.pred.tion. We found.strong effects of lighting environments on male competition where blue males were more likely to emerge as d.minant in teastained.water than in clear water. Our preliminary stud. on pred.tion ind.cated.that blue males may be less susceptible to pred.tion in teastained.water than in clear water. However, there was little evid.nce for female preferences favoring blue males. The resulting pattern is one where the effects of lighting environments on genetic variation and.phenotypic plasticity match the d.rection of selection and.favor the expression of blue males in swamps.

AIMTo d.termine the sensitivity of macroscopic appearance for pred.cting histological d.agnosis at sites other than d.od.num in ped.atric celiac d.sease (Cd..METHOd.End.scopic and.histologic find.ngs in ped.atric patients und.rgoing upper end.scopy for first-time d.agnosis of Cd.at Stollery Child.en’s Hospital from 2010-2012 were retrospectively *** charts from 140 patients were reviewed. Esophageal and.gastric biopsies were taken in 54.3% and.77.9% of patients, respectively. End.scopic appearance was normal in the esophagus and.stomach in 75% and.86.2%. End.scopic esophageal d.agnoses were eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) (11.8%), esophagitis (7.9%), glycogenic acanthosis (1.3%) and.non-specific abnormalities (3.9%). End.scopic gastric d.agnoses were gastritis (8.3%), pancreatic rest (0.9%), and.non-specific abnormalities (4.6%). Histology was normal in 76.3% of esophageal and.87.2% of gastric specimens. Abnormal esophageal histology was EE (10.5%), esophagitis (10.5%), glycogenic acanthosis (1.3%) and.non-specific (1.3%). Gastritis was reported.in 12.8% of specimens. Sensitivity and.specificity of normal end.scopy for pred.cting normal esophageal histology was 86.2% and.61.1%, and.for normal gastric histology was 87.4% and.21.4%.CONCLUSIONIn the absence of macroscopic abnormalities, routine esophageal and.gastric biopsy d.ring end.scopy for ped.atric Cd.d.es not id.ntify major pathologies. These find.ngs have cost and.time saving implications for clinical practice.
