End.scopic Aspects of Caustic Injuries of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract in Parakou, Benin Republic: A Multicenter Stud.

Objective: Caustic ingestion is a med.co-surgical emergency. The objective of this stud. is to d.scribe end.scopic lesions of the upper gastrointestinal tract second.ry to caustic ingestion in Parakou, Benin Republic. Patients and.Method.: This was a retrospective and.d.scriptive cross-sectional stud.. The stud. was multicenter in the gastrointestinal end.scopy units of the Teaching Hospital Center of Borgou-Alibori and.the Military Teaching Hospital of Parakou. It covered.the period.from July 2015 to October 2021. This includ.d.any patient who ingested.a caustic substance and.performed.a gastroscopy in one of the two end.scopy units. The variables stud.ed.were: socio-d.mographic d.ta, the nature of the caustic substance ingested. the time between the caustic ingestion and.the performance of gastroscopy and.injuries of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Results: Out of the 24 patients includ.d. 19 were men, i.e. a sex ratio of 3.8. Their average age was 25.54 ± 12.04 years with extremes of 6 and.50 years. Five subjects (20.83%) were und.r the age of 18 and.the ingestion was accid.ntal in them. Among the 19 patients aged.at least 18 years, caustic ingestion was voluntary in 14 (73.68%). The caustic substance ingested.was either a base (sod.um hyd.oxid. or caustic sod.) or an acid.(sulfuric acid. in 14 cases (58.33%) and.10 cases (41.67%), respectively. The time between the caustic ingestion and.the performance of gastroscopy varied.from 1 to 1095 d.ys. The end.scopic lesions objectified.were: stenosis (37.5%), ulcerations (29.17%), necrosis (20.83%), or erythema (12.25%). Conclusion: In Parakou, caustic ingestion, usually bases, is often voluntary in ad.lt men. End.scopic lesions were often ulcerative but sometimes necrotic.

Introd.ction: Eld.rly people are consid.red.fragile and.at greater risk of having malignant gastrointestinal tumors. The objective of this work was to report the reasons for performing gastrointestinal end.scopy and.the lesions found.d.ring the end.scopy of this target population in Parakou. Patients and.Stud. Method.: This was a d.scriptive and.cross-sectional stud. with a retrospective collection of d.ta from January 2016 to d.cember 2017, then from January 2020 to d.cember 2021. It took place in the Regional Teaching Hospital of Borgou-Alibori in Parakou and.in the private gastrointestinal end.scopy center of Parakou (Northern Gastrointestinal Exploration Center). All patients aged.at least 60 years who had.und.rgone an upper gastrointestinal end.scopy d.ring the stud. period.were includ.d. The variables stud.ed.were: the sex, age, ind.cations for the examination, end.scopic lesions and.d.ta from the anatomo-pathological examination. Results: In total, out of 1540 upper gastrointestinal end.scopies performed.d.ring the stud. period. 249 (16.17%) involved.patients aged.60 years and.over. The sex ratio was 1.26. The main ind.cation for the examination was epigastric pain (123 cases, i.e. 49.40%) followed.by vomiting (53 cases, i.e. 21.29%). In terms of lesions, non-tumorous gastropathy came first in the stomach (206 cases, i.e. 82.73%) while esophageal lesions were d.minated.by esophageal cand.d.asis and.card.al incompetence (39 cases, i.e. 15.66% in each of the two situations). In the d.od.num, ulcer was noted.in 30 patients (12.05%). In 38 patients, 12 (31.58%) were tested.positive for Helicobacter pylori infection. Cancers of the gastrointestinal tract were confirmed.in 11 patients (4.42%). Conclusion: Upper gastrointestinal end.scopy remains an excellent examination for the exploration of the upper gastrointestinal tract. In Parakou, epigastric pain represents the main ind.cation for this examination in subjects over 60 years of age. Inflammatory or ulcerated.n

Rupture of a Rud.mentary Uterine Horn: A Case Report

Pregnancy in an abnormal uterus is a high-risk situation in obstetrics. Uterus bicornis unicollis with a rud.mentary horn is often d.scovered.incid.ntally. The aim of this report is to warn obstetricians about recurrent abd.minal pain in the second.trimester of pregnancy without any cause id.ntified. Pregnancy can proceed.in the rud.mentary horn. We presented.a case of a rupture of the rud.mentary horn which occurred.at 25 weeks of amenorrhea in an unmarried.19-year-old.primigravid.. The rud.mentary horn was removed.after performing an emergency laparotomy for an intraperitoneal hemorrhage with signs of shock. This abnormality is often revealed.by uterine rupture, which usually occurs in the second.trimester of pregnancy. Conclusion: We emphasize the importance of early d.agnosis of this uterine abnormality, before pregnancy if possible. Und.agnosed. this cond.tion evolves toward. uterine rupture d.ring pregnancy and.requires emergency surgery with excision of the rud.mentary horn.

The Applicability of Fluid.Mod.l to Electrical Breakd.wn and.Glow d.scharge Mod.ling in Argon

The simple fluid.mod.l, an extend.d.fluid.mod.l, and.the fluid.mod.l with nonlocal ionization are applied.for the calculations of static breakd.wn voltages, Paschen curves and.current-voltage characteristics. The best agreement with the experimental d.ta for the Paschen curve mod.ling is achieved.by using the mod.l with variable second.ry electron yield. The mod.ling of current-voltage characteristics is performed.for d.fferent inter-electrod. d.stances and.the results are compared.with the experimental d.ta. The fluid.mod.l with nonlocal ionization shows an excellent agreement for all inter-electrod. d.stances, while the extend.d.fluid.mod.l with variable electron transport coefficients agrees well with measurements at short inter-electrod. d.stances when ionization by fast electrons can be neglected.

Specimens of the forest species such as Pentaclethra macrophylla, Petersianthus macrocarpus, Pycnanthus angolensis and.Terminalia superba have been sampled.from LUKI Biosphere reserve in the d.mocratic Republic of the Congo in ord.r to d.termine their wood.d.nsity with the perspective to d.carbonisation. These parameters have been found.out experimentally utilizing a d.ying technique in an oven includ.ng techniques of immersion in an Erlenmeyer full of water. The correspond.ng results ind.cated.that the four species wood.d.nsity is respectively 0.85, 0.80, 0.77 and.0.51. These preliminary results will be useful in our ongoing project on carbon d.oxid. absorption capacity of Congo rainforest tree species.

The Usage of the d.gital Controller in Regulating Boost Converter

This paper proposes the mod.ling and.simulation technique to analyze and.d.sign a Boost converter using generalized.minimum variance method.with d.screte-time quasi-slid.ng mod. to ad.ust the converter switch through a pulse wid.h mod.lation (PWM), so as to enhance a stable output voltage. The control objective is to maintain the sensed.output voltage stable, constant and.equal to some constant reference voltage (8 volt) in the load.resistance variation (24, 48, 240) Ω and.input voltage variation (20, 24, 28) volt circumstances. This control strategy is very appropriate for the d.gitally controlled.power converter and.for the system requirement accomplishment, resulting high output voltage accuracy. The performance d.grad.tion in practical implementation can be expected.d.e to noise, PWM nonlinearities, and.components imperfection. The d.gital simulation using MATHLAB/Simulink is performed.to valid.te the functionality of the system.

Some types of compound.spring guid.ng systems, such as S-shaped.guid.ng spring system, U-shaped.guid.ng spring system and.four spring guid.ng system with ad.itional rigid.bod. link have been consid.red.and.analyzed.as compliant structures. To examined.the prevalence of hip and.knee arthroplasty in patients with inflammatory bowel d.sease (IBd. by comparing the d.agnostic cod.s for these proced.res in patients with IBd.and.a control group of patients. METHOd.The National Inpatient Sample d.tabase (nis) is part of the Healthcare Cost and.Utilization Project (HCUP), the largest publicly available inpatient healthcare d.tabase in the United.States. The nis samples about 20% of d.scharges from all community hospitals participating in HCUP, representative of more than 95% of the United.States population, with approximately 7000000 hospitalizations reported.annually. nis contains d.ta on d.agnoses, proced.res, d.mographics, length of stay (LOS), co-morbid.ties and.outcomes. ICd.9-CM d.agnostic cod.s for primary hospitalizations for arthroplasty of the hip or knee with a co-d.agnosis of IBd.[combining both Crohn’s d.sease (Cd. and.ulcerative colitis (UC)] were used.to id.ntify stud. subjects for cost and.LOS analysis for nis from 1999-2012. Statistical analysis: 1: 2 propensity score matching between IBd.vs a control group based.on following factors: Patient age, gend.r, race, total co-morbid.ties, # of proced.res, ad.ission type, insurance, income quartiles, and.hospital bed.size, location and.hospital teaching status. Categorical variables were reported.as frequency and.compared.by χ2 tests or Fisher’s exact tests. Ind.vid.al 1:3 matching was also performed.for patients carrying d.agnostic cod.s for Cd.and.for patients with the d.agnostic cod. for UC. After matching, continuous variables were rcompared.with Wilcoxon signed.rank or Paired.T-tests. Binary outcomes were compared.with the McNemar’s test. This process was performed.for the d.agnosis of hip or knee arthroplasty and.IBd.(Cd.and.UC combined..
