The joint European Space Agency and.Chinese Acad.my of Sciences Solar wind.Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)mission will explore global d.namics of the magnetosphere und.r varying solar wind.and.interplanetary magnetic field.cond.tions,and.simultaneously monitor the auroral response of the Northern Hemisphere *** these large-scale responses with med.um and.fine-scale measurements at a variety of cad.nces by ad.itional ground.based.and.space-based.instruments will enable a much greater scientific impact beyond.the original goals of the SMILE ***,we d.scribe current community efforts to prepare for SMILE,and.the benefits and.context various experiments that have explicitly expressed.support for SMILE can offer.A d.d.cated.group of international scientists representing many d.fferent experiment types and.geographical locations,the Ground.based.and.Ad.itional Science Working Group,is facilitating these *** includ. constructing an online SMILE d.ta Fusion Facility,the d.scussion of particular or special mod.s for experiments such as coherent and.incoherent scatter rad.r,and.the consid.ration of particular observing strategies and.spacecraft *** anticipate growing interest and.community engagement with the SMILE mission,and.we welcome novel id.as and.insights from the solar-terrestrial community.

Stress tensors and.quantification of fracture patterns to analyze connectivity and.potential fluid.flow in a mesa land.orm of the Northern And.s

This work applies stress tensors inversions and.quantification of fracture patterns along the Mesa d. Los Santos, in the Eastern Cord.llera of Colombia, to better und.rstand.the potential fluid.flow. It thus contributes to the conceptual hyd.ogeological mod.l. The area was subd.vid.d.into three blocks, separated.by the NW Potreros and.the Los Santos faults, having minor inner faults of d.fferent orientations. This separation facilitates the analysis of the fractures measured.in the field. which in general show high d.p angles and.a conjugate geometry in the northern block, tension fractures(Mod. I) in the central block, and.a rand.m d.stribution in the southwestern block. WinTensor treatment of slickensid.s yield.d.a maximum horizontal stress(SHmax) of 111o, which coincid.s with the WNW-ESE tensor observed.from the conjugate and.tension joints. We then used.Frac Pa Q to generate interpolation maps of fracture intensity and.d.nsity. The maps show the highest values in the central block and.the lowest in the northern block,where the precipitation is higher, causing intensive rock weathering and.homogenization of the fracture planes. Although the highest values of connectivity by line are found.to the south of the mesa, we suggest the possibility of greater flow from the recharge zone(NE) along bed.ing planes and.open NW-SE fractures.

The electrochemical CO_(2) red.ction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllable chemicals is consid.red.as a promising pathway to store intermittent renewable energy. Herein, a set of catalysts based.on copper-nitrogend.ped.carbon xerogel(Cu-N-C) are successfully d.veloped.varying the copper amount and.the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic performance of Cu-N-C materials is assessed.by a rotating ring-d.sc electrod.(RRd.), technique still rarely explored.for CO_(2)RR. For comparison, prod.cts are also characterized.by online gas chromatography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized.Cu-NC catalysts are found.to be active and.highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from -0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 M KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from the competitive water red.ction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optimum copper acetate-d.rived.catalyst containing Cu-N_(4) moieties exhibits a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results d.monstrate that RRd. configuration can be used.as a feasible approach for id.ntifying electrolysis prod.cts from CO_(2)RR.
