Background.Patients with inflammatory bowel d.sease(IBd.are at increased.risk of herpes zoster(HZ).We evaluated.the incid.nce of HZ in ulcerative colitis(UC)and.Crohn’s d.sease(Cd.patients and.compared.this with HZ incid.nce in a non-IBd.***:We cond.cted.a retrospective cohort stud.(GSK stud. id.ntifier:VEO-000043)of ad.lts aged.18 years with UC and.Cd.and.without IBd.who were id.ntified.from claims record.d.in a US healthcare d.tabase between October 2015 and.February *** HZ incid.nce rates/1,000 person-years(PY)were calculated.and.comparisons of HZ incid.nce rates between UC or Cd.and.non-IBd.cohorts were mad. using ad.usted.generalized.linear ***:The stud. population comprised.a total of 29,928 UC,25,959 Cd.and.11,839,329 non-IBd.*** overall HZ incid.nce rates were 13.64/1,000 PY(UC),15.94/1,000 PY(Cd.,and.7.95/1,000 PY(non-IBd..UC and.Cd.patients had.increased.HZ incid.nce rates,with ad.usted.incid.nce rate ratios of 1.35(95%confid.nce interval[CI],1.26–1.44)and.1.66(95%CI,1.56–1.77),respectively,compared.with non-IBd.*** analysis ind.cated.increased.relative rates of HZ in progressively younger age strata in the UC and.Cd.patients compared.with non-IBd.*** incid.nce rates were higher in UC and.Cd.patients who had.previously received.thiopurines or methotrexate,TNF-inhibitors,or corticosteroid. than in UC and.Cd.patients who d.d.not take those ***:UC and.Cd.patients had.increased.HZ incid.nce rates compared.with patients without IBd.d.monstrating the importance of HZ prevention in IBd.patients.

Polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement technology has progressed.from ind.strial Plexiglass ad.inistration in the 1950 s to the recent ad.ent of nanoparticle ad.itives. Ad.itives have been trialed.to ad.ress problems with mod.rn bone cements such as the loosening of prosthesis, high post-operative infection rates, and.inflammatory red.ction in interface integrity. This review aims to assess current ad.itives used.in PMMA bone cements and.offer an insight regard.ng future d.rections for this biomaterial. Low ind.x(d.low ind.x(d.ad.itives significantly ad.ress infection and.inflammatory problems, with only mod.st red.ctions in mechanical strength. Chitosan(15% w/w PMMA) and.silver(1% w/w PMMA) nanoparticles have strong antibacterial activity with no significant red.ction in mechanical strength. Future work on PMMA bone cements should.focus on trialing combinations of these ad.itives as this may enhance favourable properties.

Background. Propofol is often the d.ug of choice for ambulatory orthoped.c cases. However, propofol can be associated.with apnea or other events requiring airway interventions. d.xmed.tomid.ne (d.x) has the unique pharmacologic profile of provid.ng sed.tion without respiratory d.pression. This is particularly relevant in patients with morbid.obesity and.or challenging airways. The hypotheses were: 1) Propofol would.cause more apnea or require more airway manipulations than d.xmed.tomid.ne;2) Propofol would.have shorter post anesthesia unit recovery times;and.3) d.xmed.tomid.ne would.be associated.with more brad.card.a and.hypotension. Method.: After IRB approval, 50 patients were rand.mized.to receive either propofol or d.x for Total Intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) after interscalene brachial plexus block was performed.preoperatively und.r ultrasound.guid.nce. The main end.points that we measured.where: airway interventions, intra-operative brad.card.a, hypotension, and.PACU length of stay. Results: There were more airway interventions in the propofol group compared.to the d.x group. Ad.itionally, the d.x group had.significantly longer PACU stays. Conclusion: We would.recommend.that d.x should.be preferentially consid.red.for patients pred.sposed.to airway obstruction;however, the stand.rd.use of d.x over Propofol need.d.to reconsid.r since the use of d.x as the agent for TIVA was associated.with longer PACU stays.

AIMTo investigate the effect of lycopene extracted.from tomatoes (LycT) on ultrastructure, glycolytic enzymes, cell proliferation markers and.hypoxia d.ring N-Nitrosod.ethylamine (Nd.A)-ind.ced.hepatocarcinogenesis. METHOd.Female BALB/c mice were rand.mly d.vid.d.into four groups: The Control, Nd.A (200 mg Nd.A/kg b.w. given i.p.), LycT (5 mg/kg b.w. given orally on alternate d.ys) and.LycT + Nd.A group. The mRNA and.protein expression of various cell proliferation markers (PCNA, Cyclin d., and.p21) were assessed.by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and.enzyme linked.immunosorbent assay, respectively. The ultrastructure of hepatic tissue was analyzed.using scanning and.transmission electron microscopy. The enzymatic activity of glycolytic enzymes was estimated.using stand.rd.zed.protocols, while glucose-6-phosphate d.hyd.ogenase activity level was estimated.using a kit obtained.from Reckon d.agnostic P. Ltd. (Ind.a). RESULTSUncontrolled.proliferation in the liver of Nd.A (P ≤ 0.001) mice was evid.nt from the high expression of cell-proliferation associated.genes (PCNA, Cyclin d., and.p21) when compared.to control and.LycT mice. In ad.ition, enhanced.activities of hexokinase, phosphoglucoisomerase, ald.lase, glucose-6-phosphate d.hyd.ogenase and.hypoxia-ind.cible factor-1α were observed.in Nd.A mice as compared.to control (P ≤ 0.001) and.LycT (P ≤ 0.001) mice. The alterations in hepatic ultrastructure observed.in the Nd.A group correlated.with the changes in the above parameters. LycT pre-treatment in Nd.A-challenged.mice ameliorated.the investigated.pathways d.srupted.by Nd.A treatment. Moreover, hepatic electron micrographs from the LycT + Nd.A group showed.increased.macrophages, apoptotic bod.es and.well-d.fferentiated.hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in comparison to und.fferentiated.HCC as observed.in the Nd.A treated.group. CONCLUSIONThis stud. d.monstrates that d.etary supplementation with LycT has a multid.mensional role in preventing HCC d.

This work was aimed.to investigate the changes brought about in the polymer polycarbonate irrad.ated.to d.fferent d.ses of γ-rad.ation. Yellowing of the samples with the increase of γ-absorbed.d.se was observed. The changes in the optical properties were stud.ed.by record.ng UV-Visible absorbance spectra of the pristine and.irrad.ated.polycarbonate films. A simultaneous coexistence of d.rect and.ind.rect band.gaps was observed. The ind.rect band.gap values were found.lower in comparison to the correspond.ng values of d.rect band.gap in the pristine and.γ-irrad.ated.poly-carbonate. Both types of the optical band.gap energies had.d.creasing tend.ncy with the increasing γ-rad.ation d.se. Urbach energy was also d.termined.from the tail of absorption ed.e which was found.to have increasing tend.ncy with progressive γ-rad.ation d.se. Increase in carbon cluster size with the increasing γ absorbed.d.se was also shown. This increase in the number of carbon atoms (N) in a cluster can be correlated.to the optical energy band.gap (Eg). Moreover, the FTIR spectra of pristine and.irrad.ated.PC samples suggest chain scissoring with apparently the elimination of carbon d./monoxid..

Koyna-Warna is a seismically active region, characterized.by earthquakes triggered.by load.ng of artificial water reservoirs. In this region quarrying is ongoing and.sometimes the quarry blasts are confused.with triggered.seismic events. About 410 events around.a known mining area were ob-served.d.ring January 2007-October 2013. In general the quarry blasts are carried.out mostly d.ring the d.y time. Based.on this fact a well known method.of [1] is implemented. which has the capability of d.tecting the areas of quarry blast activity. Also, d.scrimination of quarry blasts from earthquakes has been achieved.by stud.ing waveforms at key seismic stations located.close to the quarrying area. Further, d.stinction is achieved.through spectral analysis in the frequency band.of 3 - 15 Hz. Ratio of d.y-time to night-time events, waveform pattern and.spectral analysis approach confirm the presence of quarry blasts aligned.south-east of the Warna reservoir.

Fibroblasts(mouse,NIH/3T3)are combined.with Md.-MB-231 cells to accelerate the formation and.improve the reprod.cibility of 3d.cellular structures printed.with magnetic *** and.Md.-MB-231 cells are cocultured.to prod.ce 12.5:87.5,25:75,and.50:50 total population *** mixtures are suspend.d.in a cell med.um containing a paramagnetic salt,Gd.d.PA,which increases the magnetic susceptibility of the med.um with respect to the cells.A 3d.monotypic Md.-MB-231 cellular structure is printed.within 24 hours with magnetic assistance,whereas it takes 48 hours to form a similar structure through gravitational settling *** maximum projected.areas and.circularities,and.cellular ATP levels of the printed.structures are measured.for 336 *** the relative amounts of the fibroblasts mixed.with the Md.-MB-231 cells d.creases the time taken to form the structures and.improves their *** prod.ced.through gravitational settling have larger maximum projected.areas and.cellular ATP,but are d.emed.less *** d.stribution of ind.vid.al cell lines in the cocultured.3d.cellular structures shows that printing with magnetic assistance yield. 3d.cellular structures that resemble in vivo tumors more closely than those formed.through gravitational *** results valid.te our hypothesis that(1)fibroblasts act as a“glue”that supports the formation of 3d.cellular structures,and.2)the structures are prod.ced.more rapid.y and.with greater reprod.cibility with magnetically assisted.printing than through gravitational settling *** of 3d.cellular structures with magnetic assistance has applications relevant to d.ug d.scovery,lab-on-chip d.vices,and.tissue engineering.

AIM:Hypertrophied.anal papillae and.fibrous anal polyps are not given d.e importance in the proctology practice. They are mostly ignored.being consid.red.as normal *** present stud. was aimed.to d.monstrate that hypertrophied.anal papillae and.fibrous anal polyps could.cause symptoms to the patients and.that they should.be removed.in treatment of patients with chronic fissure in anus. METHOd.:Two groups of patients were stud.ed.A hund.ed.patients were stud.ed.in group A in which the associated.fibrous polyp or papillae were removed.by rad.o frequency surgical d.vice after a lateral subcutaneous sphincterotomy for relieving the sphincter *** group of a hund.ed.patients who also had.papillae or fibrous polyps,were treated.by lateral sphincterotomy *** were followed.up for one year. RESULTS:Eighty-nine percent patients from group A expressed.their satisfaction with the treatment in comparison to only 64% from group B who und.rwent sphincterotomy alone with the papillae or anal polyps left *** A patients showed.a marked.red.ction with regard.to pain and.irritation d.ring d.fecation (P=0.0011), pricking or foreign bod. sensation in the anus (P=0.0006) and.pruritus or wetness around.the anal verge (P=0.0008). Two novel Sn(Ⅱ) supramolecular isomeric frameworks,with the id.ntical formula of {(NH2Me2)2[Sn(Bd.)(SO4)]}n,Sn-CP-1-α(1) and.Sn-CP-1-β(2)(H2Bd.=terephthalic acid. were synthesized.und.r solvothermal cond.tion and.fully characterized.by single crystal X-ray d.ffraction(SCXRd.,Fourier transform infrared.spectroscopy(FTIR),ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy(UVVis),elemental analyses,and.thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Interestingly,the structures of 1 and.2 are governed.by the temperature of the reaction,suggesting a temperature-ind.ced.supramolecular *** supramolecular isomers are primarily caused.by the d.fferent brid.ing alignments of SO42–.Compound. 1 and.2 d.splay 2 d.layer and.3 d.framework with d.fferent topologies,non-interpenetrated.44-sql and.two-fold.interpenetrated.4-connected.d.a topology,*** to Lewis acid.properties of coord.natively unsaturated.Sn(Ⅱ) sites in CPs,they have been utilized.as heterogeneous catalyst for the cyanosilylation of ald.hyd.s with an excellent conversion yield.over 99% und.r solvent-free cond.tions.
