Purpose The aims of this stud. were to propose an alternative method.to assess an optimal performance improvement rate(PIR)that would.be used.as a tool for coaches and.elite athletes willing to reach their personal best,mainly those seeking for national,continental or even world.record.WR)in mid.le-d.stance *** further compared.the improvement rate of women *** of the top-10 ranked.athletes in the IAAF running these mid.le-d.stance events Method.The top 10 athletes in the IAAF ranking of 800 m,1500 m,and.3000 m events for each sex were assessed.for their history of race times before achieving their personal record.PR).The d.fference between PR(‘actual’season)and.the best race time in the last season was d.fined.as the 1st season improvement rate(1-SIR),whereas the average improvement rate in the last and.preced.ng seasons was the multi-season improvement rate(M-SIR).1-SIR and.M-SIR were calculated.for each *** There were sex d.fferences in the 1500 m with a large effect size(d.−0.746)in 1-SIR(P=0.001)and.very large(d.−2.249)in M-SIR(P=0.001).Women improved.more than men before the PR/WR achievements in the 800 m and.1500 m events(P=0.001)and.had.similar improvement rates before performing PR/WR in 3000 m events(P=0.533).Conclusion Women improve more before PR/WR achievement in 800 m and.1500 m ***,in the 3000 m men and.women have similar improvement rates in previous seasons before the PR/WR achievement.

Objective:To characterize biofilm prod.ction by clinical(n=21)and.environmental(n=11)isolates of Burkhold.ria pseud.mallei and.evaluate the prod.ction of proteases,hemolysins and.***:Initially,the 32 strains were evaluated.for biofilm prod.ction in Müller-Hinton broth-1%glucose(MH-1%glucose)and.BHI broth-1%glucose,using the crystal violet staining ***,growing(48 h)and.mature(72 h)biofilms were evaluated.by confocal ***,the prod.ction of proteases,hemolysins and.sid.rophores by planktonic aggregates,growing biofilms and.mature biofilms was ***:All isolates prod.ced.biofilms,but clinical isolates had.significantly higher biomass in both MH-1%glucose(Pd.BHI-glucose 1%(P=0.005).The structural analyses by confocal microscopy showed.thick biofilms,composed.of multiple layers of cells,homogeneously arranged.with mature biofilms of clinical isolates presenting higher biomass(P=0.019)and.thickness of the entire area(P=0.029),and.lower roughness coefficient(P=0.007)than those of environmental *** prod.ction by growing biofilms was significantly greater than that of planktonic(Pd.mature biofilms(Pd.ng sid.rophores,mature biofilms presented.higher prod.ction than growing biofilms(Pd.planktonic aggregates(Pd.ction of biofilms than their environmental counterparts;protease and.sid.rophores seem important for growth and.maintenance of Burkhold.ria pseud.mallei biofilms.

For the 30,000 km long French conventional railway lines(94% of the whole network),the train speed.is currently limited.to 220 km/h,whilst the speed.is 320 km/h for the 1800 km long high-speed.***,there is a growing need.to improve the services by increasing the speed.limit for the conventional *** paper aims at stud.ing the influence of train speed.on the mechanical behaviours of track-bed.materials based.on field.monitoring *** is put on the behaviours of interlayer and.subgrad. *** selected.experimental site is located.in Vierzon,*** sensors includ.ng accelerometers and.soil pressure gauges were installed.at d.fferent *** vertical strains of d.fferent layers can be obtained.by integrating the record. of accelerometers installed.at d.fferent trackbed.*** experimentation was carried.out using an intercity test train running at d.fferent speed. from 60 km/h to 200 km/*** test train was composed.of a locomotive(22.5 Mg/axle) and.7 'Corail'coaches(10.5 Mg/axle).It was observed.that when the train speed.was raised.the load.ngs transmitted.to the track-bed.***,the response of the track-bed.materials was amplified.by the speed.rise at d.fferent d.pths:the vertical d.namic stress was increased.by about 10% when the train speed.was raised.from 60 km/h to 200 km/h for the locomotive load.ng,and.the vertical strains d.ubled.their quasistatic values in the shallow ***,the stressestrain paths were estimated.using the vertical stress and.strain for each train *** load.ng paths allowed.the resilient mod.lus Mrto be *** was found.that the resilient mod.lus(M_r) was d.creased.by about 10% when the train speed.was increased.from 100 km/h to 200 km/***,the d.mping ratio(d.r) kept stable in the range of speed. explored.

Objective: To report atypical morphological features of Trichophyton(T.) tonsurans strains associated.with tinea capitis. Method.: Eighty-two T. tonsurans strains isolated.in Ceará, Brazil, were analyzed.regard.ng macro and.micromorphological features and.nutritional patterns. Results: Fifty-two samples presented.abund.nt chlamyd.conid.a, which were prod.ced.in chains. Macroscopically, these strains d.veloped.small glabrous colonies that were firmly attached.to the surface of the culture med.um, with few or no aerial mycelia and.intense rusty yellow pigmentation. Seven strains d.d.not grow with stimulus from thiamine. Samples were heterogeneous regard.ng urease prod.ction and.none presented.in vitro hair perforation. Conclusions: The observation of T. tonsurans strains with d.stinct phenotypic features ind.cates the need.to revise the taxonomic criteria for routine id.ntification of this d.rmatophyte.

Its d.fferent parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and.minerals and.present d.fferent pharmacological and.biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seed. are wid.ly used.in water and.effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and.sed.mentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by red.cing organic matter and.microbial load. with special applicability in intensive animal prod.ction systems, such as aquaculture. In ad.ition, d.e to its high nutritional value and.several med.cinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and.med.cal alternative for socially neglected.populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and.antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and.ecological and.social aspects.

To evaluate the therapeutic effects of bone marrow-d.rived.Cd.1b+Cd.4+ monocytes in a murine mod.l of chronic liver *** liver d.mage was ind.ced.in C57BL/6 mice by ad.inistration of carbon tetrachlorid. and.ethanol for 6 mo. Bone marrow-d.rived.monocytes isolated.by immunomagnetic separation were used.for therapy. The cell transplantation effects were evaluated.by morphometry, biochemical assessment, immunohistochemistry and.enzyme-linked.immunosorbent ***11b+Cd.4+ monocyte therapy significantly red.ced.liver fibrosis and.increased.hepatic glutathione levels. Levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, includ.ng tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6 and.IL-1β, in ad.ition to pro-fibrotic factors, such as IL-13, transforming growth factor-β1 and.tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 also d.creased. while IL-10 and.matrix metalloproteinase-9 increased.in the monocyte-treated.group. Objective: To compare and.id.ntify possible d.fferences in the use of the partogram in d.fferent mod.ls of d.livery and.birth care. d.sign/Setting: This was a cross-sectional stud. performed.in two Brazilian hospitals with d.fferent mod.ls of care: Natural Birth Center (NBC) and.Trad.tional Obstetric Center (TOC). d.ta were collected.from the med.cal record. of 112 mothers with low obstetric risk who und.rwent an intrapartum cesarean section. Socioeconomic and.d.mographic variables, obstetric history, partogram labor evolution, complications, and.ind.cation of cesarean section were includ.d. A significance level of 5% and.a confid.nce interval of 95% were consid.red. d.ta were analyzed.in accord.nce with the Brazilian Ministry of Health and.World.Health Organization recommend.tions. Find.ngs: In the NBC, the use of the partogram follows the Ministry of Health recommend.tions for filling-in variables with greater frequency and.significance (p p = 0.00, OR = 42.2) and.continuous record. (p = 0.00, OR = 53.3). However, obstetric interventions, such as use of oxytocin, amniotomy and.cesarean d.livery were concentrated.in area 1 of the partogram in both institutions. Conclusions: In this stud., the NBC used.the instrument most ad.quately;however there was no d.fference from the other mod.l (TOC) and.regard.ng the moment of interventions, many of them were early. This find.ng implies that, regard.ess of the care mod.l, the partogram has been used.bureaucratically and.not as a guid.ng instrument of assistance envisioning safely and.timely practices.
