Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(Ad) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of Ad is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. the amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van dyck et al.,2023). the recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

Using lattice-fluid model, a continuous thermodynamic framework is presented for phase-equilibrium calculations for binary solutions with a polydisperse polymer solute. A two-step process is designed to form a real polymer solution containing a solvent and a polydisperse polymer solute occupying a volume at fixed temperature and pressure. In the first step, close-packed pure components including solvent and polymers with different molar masses or different chain lengths are mixed to form a closed-packed polymer solution. In the second step, the close-packed mixture, considered to be a pseudo-pure substance is mixed with holes to form a real polymer solution with a volume dependent on temperature and pressure. Revised Freed's model developed previously is adopted for both steps. Besides pure-component parameters, a binary size parameter cr and a binary energy parameter e12 are used. they are all temperature dependent. the discrete-multicomponent approach is adopted to derive expressions for chemical potentials, spinodals and critical points. the continuous distribution function is then used in calculations of moments occurring in those expressions. Computation procedures are established for cloud-point-curve, shadow-curve, spinodal and critical-point calculations using standard distribution or arbitrary distribution on molar mass or on chain length. Illustrative examples are also presented.

Significant achievements have been made in generating sustainable agricultural technologies in developing countries. Usually, these new technologies have been more effective in increasing production and productivity than existing technologies. However, many new technologies considered ‘effective’ have not been successful in alleviating the associated sustainability problems, due to poor adoption by targeted users. Success of any novel technical intervention should be judged on the basis of how widespread adoption is in the target area by targeted users. In this context, a case study identified the factors affecting farmers’ adoption of improved technologies extended by an agricultural development project in a rural Village in Yunnan Province, China. Initial adoption/adaptation of project technologies was influenced by farmers’ awareness of the technology. Farmers were more aware of polythene mulch, contour cultivation, intercropping and tree planting technologies than others. this led to a comparatively high initial uptake of polythene mulch, contour cultivation, sweet chestnut, and intercropping technologies. Farmers had inadequate knowledge about some Project technologies, the adoption of which was particularly low. this reveals the need for increasing farmers’ awareness about the rationale for Project technologies to achieve greater adoption/adaptation of project technologies by farmers over wider areas. Farmers’ testing of the technology leads to better adoption/adaptation compared to mere awareness. However, considerable time and resources are required for testing/trying technologies. this justifies the usefulness of comparatively quick and less resource demanding options for awareness creation. development of effective cropping technologies is important for sustainable agricultural development. the success of any agricultural development project, especially in terms of improving sustainability, depends on how widely those improved technologies are adopted/adap

Problems associated with land degradation are serious in China. Sloping land in South China has experienced a decline in crop productivity by 30-60% due to soil erosion and it has been predicted that most topsoil will be lost within the next 100 years if current erosion rates continue. Considering these situations, an agro-environmental research and development project （Sustainable Highland Agriculture in South-East Asia- SHASEA） was conducted in a catchment in Yunnan Province, China, to address the objectives of increasing crop productivity in sustainable and environmentally-friendly ways. A range of cropping practices was developed and implemented in a rural upland catchment （Wang jia）. At the end of the project, farmers were surveyed to evaluate project effectiveness. All farmers from Wang jia Catchment, who were involved in project implementation, were surveyed. A sample of farmers working in an adjacent catchment （not associated with the project） was surveyed for comparative purposes. Farmers had different perceptions of the cropping practices employed. Contour cultivation was preferred and likely to be adopted. Others practices such as straw mulching and intercropping were seen as less appropriate and unlikely to be adopted. Polythene mulch was recognized as effective, but likely to be adopted only if financial returns were favourable. the availability of relevant information had an important impact on the extent of technology testing by farmers and their willingness to adopt the practices in the future.

the development of stationary patterns on a thin polymer surface subject to an electric field is studied by means of the hexagonal-planform weakly nonlinear stability analysis and numerical simulations. the time evolution of the interface between the air and the polymer film on the unbounded spatial domain is described by a thin film equation, incorporating the electric driving force and the surface *** nonlinear interfacial growth includes the amplitude equations and superposition of one-dimensional structures at regular orientations. the pattern selection is driven by the subcritical instability mechanism in which the relative thickness of the polymer film plays a critical role.

divalent europium（Ⅱ）-doped mesoporous silicon oxy-nitride materials, as a novel type of nanoscopic photoluminescent material, are studied in which the optically active luminescent centers are isolated within the pores. Colorless and transparent blue emitting luminous Eu2＋-doped mesoporous silicon oxy-nitride materials were prepared from mesoporous silica via impregnation, nanocasting and nitrogen-assisted carbothermal reduction and nitridation method. the morphology and porosity of the silica remain unchanged during the synthesis process as revealed by SEm images and by nitrogen sorption studies. Photoluminescence studies reveal a strong blue emission band for Eu2＋ centered at 425 nm with a quantum efficiency of 47%. the luminescent intensity is greatly influenced by the amount of co-dopant, AI3＋ ions.
