BACKGROUNd Temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)is the most common focal epilepsy subtype in adults and is frequently accompanied by depression,anxiety and *** in total paraoxonase 1(PON1)status may occur in TLE and these psychiatric *** To examine PON1 status,namely Q192R PON1 genotypes and PON1 enzymatic activities,in *** We recruited 40 normal controls and 104 TLE patients,27 without comorbidities and 77 with comorbidities including mood disorders(n=25),anxiety disorders(n=27)and psychosis(n=25).RESULTS Four-(chloromethyl)phenyl acetate hydrolysis(CMPAase)and arylesterase activities were significantly lower in TLE and mesial temporal sclerosis(MTS)with and without psychiatric comorbidities than those in normal *** areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of CMPAase were 0.893(0.037)for TLE and 0.895(±0.037)for *** least squares path analysis showed that there were specific indirect effects of PON1 genotype on TLE severity(Pd psychopathology(Pdiated by lowered CMPAase activity,while arylesterase activity was not *** severity of TLE was significantly associated with psychopathology ***,PON1 CMPAase activity was inversely associated with Mini Mental State Examination *** The severity of TLE and comorbidities are to a large extent explained by reduced PON1 enzyme activities and by effects of the Q192R genotype,which are mediated by reduced CMPAase *** PON1 status plays a key role in the pathophysiology of TLE,MTS and psychiatric comorbidities by increasing the risk of oxidative ***1 enzyme activities are new drug targets in TLE to treat seizure frequency and psychiatric comorbidities.

Responses of Grafted Watermelon onto Cucurbita pepo Tiana F1 Hybrid to Boron Nutritional disorders

Sensitivity to boron stress in growing media during the early seedlings stage could severely inhibit watermelon growth and development. The aim of this study was to test if watermelon(Citrullus lanatus cv. Mahbubi) performance can be improved under different boron concentrations(0, 46.31 and 935.11 μmol·L-1 H3BO3) by grafting watermelon plants onto Cucurbita pepo Tiana F1 hybrid rootstock. Shoot dry weight of grafted watermelon was significantly higher than those of non-grafted plants under boron stress conditions(0 and 935.11 μmol·L-1). Boron concentration of the aerial organs of the grafted plants was higher than in the non-grafted ones when treated with 0 μmol·L-1 H3BO3. However, with the application of boron(935.11 μmol·L-1 H3BO3), the aerial organs of grafted plants accumulated lower boron than non-grafted ones. The Cucurbita pepo rootstock also improved the absorption of several other nutrients and leaf chlorophyll content and the Fv/Fmratio was also increased at high boron root concentration. Higher activities of several antioxidant enzymes such as catalase(CAT), superoxide dismutase(SOd) and peroxidase(POX) in grafted watermelons were associated with a significant reduction in H2O2 and malondialdehyde(MdA) generation when compared with those of non-grafted plants under boron stress conditions(0 and 935.11 μmol·L-1 H3BO3). Grafted plants reported improved growth, nutrient uptake and several other physiological parameters when compared to non-grafted watermelon plants under boron stress conditions.

Iranian Grapevine Rootstocks and Hormonal Effects on Graft Union, Growth and Antioxidant Responses of Asgari Seedless Grape

This research investigated physiological and biochemical changes at rootstock–scion union of graft combinations between Iranian rootstocks and Asgari scion in response to NAA and BAP *** cuts of scion and rootstock were dipped into NAA(0,200 and 400 mg·L^(-1))and BAP(0,250 and 500 mg·L^(-1))solutions for 30 min,immediately after the cuttings were grafted using the wedge grafting *** highest successful grafting rate(82%)was recorded with Asgari–Asgari combination treated with 200 mg·L^(-1) NAA+500 mg·L^(-1) *** the graft cut–surfaces with 200 mg·L^(-1) NAA+500 mg·L^(-1) BAP caused the lowest H 2 O 2 and MdA *** all the graft combinations,the highest increase in chlorophyll content with a high photosynthesis efficiency occurred in Asgari–Shahani when treated with 200 mg·L^(-1)NAA+500 mg·L^(-1) *** graft union formation in the presence of 200 mg·L^(-1) NAA+500 mg·L^(-1) BAP application enhanced CAT and POX *** conclusion,treatment of graft zone with 200 mg·L^(-1) NAA+500 mg·L^(-1) BAP enhanced antioxidant activities and reduced lipid peroxidation in scion ***,several grapevine rootstocks tested in our research were also impacting the scion performance.
