The critical environment is one of the main insufficient to positioning. Geodetic observing systems such as the global positioning system （GPS） and the global navigation satellite systems （GNSS） are routinely used to estimate the contaminating effects by critical environment. In an effort to define the accuracy and reliability of GPS/ GNSS positioning, we investigated the data having con- taminating effects due to forestry environment. Some reliability criteria and geometric concepts were defined and then examined by them. Two sets of data were collected in open sky and closed canopy separately. The analysis of the observed data was performed using the reliability criteria and geometric concepts. The accuracy and reliability of positioning strongly depended on the canopy ratio and satellite availability. The minimum detectable error on baseline was estimated about 2.5 mm under closed canopy. The number of observable satellites and minimal detectable errors were computed for each epoch. The minimal biases on estimated baselines, bias-to-noise ratios for estimating baseline components and probability of success of the integer ambiguity solution were defined in case of forest canopy. Finally, geometric quality could be achieved using the factors of dilution of precision. Thus, the presented accuracy and reliability concepts fulfill the requirement proposed by the global geodetic observing system in forest environment.

Outlier detection by means of robust regression estimators for use in engineering science

This study compares the ability of different robust regression estimators to detect and classify outliers. Well-known estimators with high breakdown points were compared using simulated data. Mean success rates (MSR) were computed and used as comparison criteria. The results showed that the least median of squares (LMS) and least trimmed squares (LTS) were the most successful methods for data that included leverage points, masking and swamping effects or critical and concentrated outliers. We recommend using LMS and LTS as diagnostic tools to classify outliers, because they remain robust even when applied to models that are heavily contaminated or that have a complicated structure of outliers.

AIM: To compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK) and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty(ELLK) in eyes with ***: In this study, 57 eyes of 56 patients operated between 2013 to 2017 were included. Thirty-one eyes underwent big-bubble DALK and twenty-six eyes underwent ELLK. Preoperative and at control visits complete ophthalmic examination was performed. RESULTS: The mean patient age at the time of DALK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 21±5.4 mo. The mean patient age at the time of ELLK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 40±18 mo. Mean best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA) at postoperative period was significantly higher for DALK group(0.66±0.11) versus ELLK group(0.4±0.2)(P<0.05). Descemet's membrane microperforation was occurred in 7 patients in DALK group versus in 1 patient in ELLK group. In 4 eyes, interface irregularity was developed in ELLK group. None of the patients in follow-up had graft rejection in both ***: In ELLK group, complication rate is lower, the surgical technique is simpler, faster and safer and also ELLK requires less experience with respect to DALK. Further, DALK can be performed unless satisfactory visual acuity is achieved after ELLK.

A histological study of rabbit corneas after transepithelial corneal crosslinking using partial epithelial photoablation or ethanol treatment

AIM: To evaluate the histological changes after transepithelial corneal crosslinking(CXL) using partial thickness excimer laser ablation or epithelial ethanol application in an experimental rabbit ***: Right eyes of twenty-four rabbits were studied. Four eyes received total epithelial debridement(group I). Four eyes received partial thickness epithelial ablation with excimer laser(group II). Twelve eyes were treated with different durations(30s and 60s) and concentrations(18% to 48%) of ethanol(group III).Riboflavin was applied for 30 min intervals along with topical proparacaine drops with benzalkonium chloride,and 370 nm irradiation was performed for 30 min, while riboflavin was instilled every 3min. Four eyes(group IV)received 48% ethanol for 30 s without riboflavin and irradiation. Eyes were collected after 24 h and examined ***: All eyes in group I showed keratocyte loss in the superficial 300 μ of corneal storma. In group II, 1-4layers of epithelium were preserved and no keratocyte loss occurred. In group III, CXL after treatment with ethanol up to 24% concentration and up to 60 s revealed no keratocyte loss. CXL after treatment with 48% and higher ethanol concentrations yielded keratocyte loss in the superficial 200 μ to 300 μ of ***: Incomplete excimer laser ablation of the epithelium or treatment with ethanol up to 24%concentration and up to 60 s duration yielded no stromal keratocyte loss. To get the same histological appearance seen in epithelial debridement group, partial thicknessexcimer laser epithelial ablation or ethanol application is not adequate for transepithelial CXL.

AIM: To compare retinal artery-vein diameters(RAVDs)of patients with pseudoexfoliation(PSX) syndrome with healthy controls and investigate the correlations between retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) thickness parameters and ***: Seventeen eyes with PSX and 17 eyes of age-matched controls were included in the study. All participants underwent routine ophthalmological examination, Humphrey visual field and RNFL examination by using Stratus OCT. Retinal images were obtained by using a retinal camera(Topcon 501X).RAVDs were measured from inferior nasal, inferior temporal, superior nasal and superior temporal arcuates by using IMAGEnet software. Superior, inferior, nasal,temporal and average RNFL thicknesses were *** and RNFL parameters in groups and correlations were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U and Spearmann correlation ***: Only inferior quadrant and average RNFL thickness were detected thinner in the PSX group compared with control group(P =0.009, P =0.038,respectively). No statistically significant difference regarding RAVDs was found between two ***: RAVDs seems to be comparable in the PSX and control group. RNFL is thinner in the inferior quadrant in the PSX group. RNFL thickness and RAVDs show significant correlations in both groups. This correlation doesn’t seem to be specific to PSX.

AIMTo evaluate and compare corneal biomechanical findings measured by ocular response analyzer, topographic and pachymetric findings in patients with unilateral keratoconus patients and healthy *** is an observational, case-control study. Patients with keratoconus in one eye and forme fruste keratoconus in the fellow eye were compared with sex and age matched with controls healthy subjects. All subjects were evaluated with rotating scheimpflug imaging system. The receiver-operating-characteristic curves were analyzed to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the ***-seven patients with keratoconus in one eye and forme fruste keratoconus in the fellow eye were compared with 40 eyes of 40 normal subjects. Corneal hysteresis (CH) was 8.0±1.7 mm Hg in keratoconus group, 8.3±1.6 mm Hg in forme fruste keratoconus group, and 9.8±1.6 mm Hg in control groups (P=0.54 between keratoconus and forme fruste keratoconus groups, P<0.01 between control group and other groups). Corneal resistance factor (CRF) was 7.1±2.2 mm Hg in keratoconus group, 7.8±1.2 mm Hg in forme fruste keratoconus group and 9.9±1.5 mm Hg in control group (P<0.001 between control group and other groups). Using receiver-operating-characteristic analysis, the area under curve values of the parameters to distinguish forme fruste keratoconus from control subjects were: CH (0.768), CRF (0.866). Best cut-off points were 9.3 mm Hg and 8.8 mm Hg for CH and CRF *** response analyzer parameters (CH and CRF) are found to be significantly lower in forme fruste keratoconus patients compared to normal control subjects.

Radical gastrectomy with extended lymph node dissec tion and prophylactic resection of the omentum, peri toneum over the posterior lesser sac, pancreas and/o spleen was advocated at the beginning of the 1960 s in Japan. In time, prophylactic routine resections of the pancreas and/or spleen were abandoned because of the high incidence of postoperative complications. However omentectomy and bursectomy continued to be standard parts of traditional radical gastrectomy. The bursaomentalis was thought to be a natural barrier against invasion of cancer cells into the posterior part of the stomach. The theoretical rationale for bursectomy was to reduce the risk of peritoneal recurrences by eliminating the peritoneum over the lesser sac, which might include free cancer cells or micrometastases. Over time, the indication for bursectomy was gradually reduced to only patients with posterior gastric wall tumors penetrating the serosa. Despite its theoretical advantages, its benefit for recurrence or survival has not been proven yet. The possible reasons for this inconsistency are discussed in this review. In conclusion, the value of bursectomy in the treatment of gastric cancer is still under debate and large-scale randomized studies are necessary. Until clear evidence of patient benefit is obtained, its routine use cannot be recommended.

Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis:A single center experience

AIM： To share our experience of the management and outcomes of patients with pneumatosis cystoides in- testinalis （PCI）. METHODS： The charts of seven patients who under- went surgery for PCI between 2001 and 2009 were re- viewed retrospectively. Clinical features, diagnoses and surgical interventions of patients with PCI are discussed. RESULTS： Seven patients with PCI （3 males, 4 fe- males; mean age, 50 ~ 16.1 years; range, 29-74 years） were analyzed. In three of the patients, abdominal pain was the only complaint, whereas additional vomiting and/or constipation occurred in four. Leukocytosis was detected in four patients, whereas it was within normal limits in three. Subdiaphragmatic free air was observed radiologically in four patients but not in three. Six of the patients underwent an applied lapa- rotomy, whereas one underwent an applied explorative laparoscopy. PCI localized to the small intestine only was detected in four patients, whereas it was localized to the small intestine and the colon in three. Three patients underwent a partial small intestine resection and four did not after PCI was diagnosed. Five patients were diagnosed with secondary PCI and two with pri- mary PCI when the surgical findings and medical his- tory were assessed together. Gastric atony developed in one case only, as a complication during a postopera- tive follow-up of 5-14 d. CONCLUSION： Although rare, PCl should be consid- ered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen. Diagnostic laparoscopy and preoperative radiological tests, including computed tomography, play an impor- tant role in confirming the diagnosis.

A selection of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)for surgical resection is crucial and algorithms/staging systems help surgeons to decide on a standard treatment for each patient and each HCC ***,there are always diffi culties in remembering and/or recalling the contents of the algorithms/staging ***,most algorithms/staging systems do not include data about the extent of hepatectomy,intra-hepatic distribution of tumor(s),and technical feasibility of resection,all of which are vital in the surgeons’decision-making ***,we aimed to present a simple and handy mnemonic acronym for selecting resectable HCCs in surgical *** was reproduced from the existing well-known staging *** designed mnemonic acronym is a phrase“PERISH”and it includes asking for Performance of patient,Extra-hepatic disease,Reserve of the liver,Intra-hepatic distribution,Stratifying risk factors,and Hepatectomy size in *** based on whether the patient is mostly bedridden or not should be the fi rst step of ***,asking for suspicious metastasis as bone pain and radiological evaluation of abdomen/thorax is *** calculation of Child-Pugh score is only the third *** candidates for surgical resection should be Child-Pugh“A”with normal bilirubin *** feasibility of resection,according to the intra-hepatic distribution of tumor(s)should be done later,and the candidates preferably should not have portal hypertension(no splenomegaly,no thrombocytopenia).If the patient fulfi lls all the previous steps,the surgeon may perform indo-cyanine green clearance ***,following the PERISH fl owchart may prevent“perish”of the surgeons while selecting the appropriate resectable HCCs.
