Trace elements and stable sulfur isotopes in plants of acid mine drainage area:Implications for revegetation of degraded land

The abundances of trace elements,a low pH of water and soil in areas impacted by the acid mine drainage(AmD)may cause an excessive uptake of potentially toxic elements and nutritional imbalances in ***-tolerant,native plants are used for revegetation of degraded mining *** established levels of selected trace elements and stable sulfur isotopes in the above-ground plant biomass collected in a mining area in south-central *** 2016,20 samples of the most common species were collected from sites with a different influence of acid mine drainage and analyzed for trace elements by the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry *** the basis of the results obtained in 2016,the most contaminated site was selected for a more detailed study,in which sulfur contents and stable sulfur isotope ratios were determined together with trace elements in 17 *** results confirmed that the plants native to the AmD area efficiently accumulated trace elements,especially As and rare earth *** showed the highest content of trace elements,but exhibited the lowest concentrations of sulfur accompanied by the highestδ34S *** has been shown for the first time that stable sulfur isotope composition of AmD plants in south-central Poland is significantly depleted in the 34S isotope showing an averageδ34 S value of–10.5‰in comparison with positiveδ34S values in local vegetation growing outside the AmD area and in local precipitation.

Texture development and grain boundary phase formation in Ce-and Ce-La-substituted Nd-Fe-B magnets during hot-deformation process

In this study,the influence of Ce-and Ce-La-substitution for Nd in Nd-Fe-B magnets on their magnetic and microstructural changes in the course of the hot-deformation process was investigated to gain insight into further reducing the Nd content in fine-grained Nd-Fe-B hot-deformed *** found that the[001]texture and microstructure of the RE-rich grain boundary phases,which are the factors that de-termine the remanence and coercivity of hot-deformed magnets,were deteriorated by the Ce-and *** is because the volume fraction of the RE-rich liquid formed in the grain boundaries during the hot-press and hot-deformation decreased due to the Ce-and Ce-La-substitution,thereby in-creasing the friction between the 2:14:1 grains while the c-axes of grains were aligned by grain rotation and decreasing the RE concentration of grain boundary *** particular,the Ce-La-co-substitution further prevented the liquid formation within the grain boundaries of the magnets during hot-press and hot-deformation because the wettability of the RE-rich liquid on the 2:14:1 grains became poor when La was substituted for Nd in the 2:14:1 *** results indicate that there is room for further im-provement in both the remanence and coercivity of the Ce-and Ce-La-substituted magnets by intro-ducing additional liquid into the grain boundaries prior to hot-press and *** applying the Nd-Cu infiltration process to the melt-spun ribbons(intermediate infiltration,I-infiltration),both the remanence and coercivity of the Nd-saving(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.3)-Fe-B and(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.225 La 0.075)-Fe-B hot-deformed magnets were successfully improved.

Rare earth double activated phosphors for different applications

For the purpose of development of highly energy-efficient light sources,one needs to design highly efficient green,red and yellow phosphors,which are able to absorb excitation energy and generate *** this contribution,we present our results on producing some efficient phosphors with improved luminescence *** double activation,energy could be transferred from one luminescent activator to the other one,resulting in more efficient or brighter device ***-activators could be added to a host material to change the color of the emitted *** incorporation of Eu3+ or Tb3+ ions into the CaWO4 crystal lattice modified the luminescence spectrum due to the formation of the emission centers that generated the specific red and green *** efficient new red phosphors based on YNbO4 and doped by Eu3+,ga3+,Al3+ allowed recommending these materials as good candidates for different applications including LED and X-ray intensifying *** double activated TAG with Ce3+ and Eu3+ and for different mole ratios of Ce/Eu,the color temperature changed from 5500 K(0.331,0.322) up to 4200 K(0.370,0.381) and the light became 'warmer'.Application of TAG:Ce,Eu in the light emitting device showed better chromaticity coordinates of luminescence and color rendering index of LEDs.

Thermal comfort in twentieth-century architectural heritase： Two houses of Le Corbusier and Andre Wogenscky

The study of the relationship of climate and indoor thermal environments in architecture is essential to understand the inhabitants＇ sensory perception. This is even more relevant when working in the existing housing stock in view of the new challenges posed by the conservation of the 20th century architectural heritage and the adaption of these buildings to our current comfort and environmental criteria. This article aims to develop a balanced understanding of the approach of modernist architecture to climate, indoor atmospheres and inhabitants＇ thermal comfort. To do so, we complement the quantitative approach of environmental assessment methods with the qualitative angle of the history of sensory and architecture. The goal is to understand the environmental performance of architecture for dealing nowadays with thermal comfort issues while respecting its cultural and historical values. Two modernist houses have been selected as case studies： the Villa Curutchet of the master Le Corbusier and the Villa Chupin of his discipte Andr Wogenscky. As a result, the article reveals potentialities and constraints in terms of thermal comfort when working with modern Architecture.

The effect of ethanol fuel dilution on oil performance and moDTC tribofilms formation and composition

Ethanol has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels,but its use can lead to significant dilution in lubricants,particularly during cold start or heavy *** dilution can affect the performance of additives,including friction modifiers like molybdenum dithiocarbamate(moDTC),which are designed to reduce friction under extreme contact *** research suggests that ethanol may impact the performance of moDTC,prompting this study’s goal to investigate the effects of ethanol on moDTC tribofilms and their friction response under boundary lubrication ***,reciprocating tribological tests were performed with fully formulated lubricants containing moDTC with varying ethanol *** results indicate that a critical ethanol dilution level inhibits friction reduction by moDTC activation,resulting in friction coefficients(COFs)similar to the base *** tested with simple mixtures of polyalphaolefin(PAO)+moDTC showed increased COFs with added *** of tested surfaces using Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and X-ray absorption spectroscopy near the edge structure(XANES)revealed the presence of sulfates,moO_(3),moS_(2),and moS_(x)O_(y)compounds in the tribofilms formed on the surfaces,with and without ethanol diluted in the ***,the addition of ethanol increased the sulfates and moO_(3)content of the tribofilms at the expense of friction-reducing compounds such as moS_(2)and moS_(x)O_(y).These findings suggest that ethanol dilution in lubricants containing moDTC creates an oxygen-rich interfacial medium that favors the formation of compounds with insufficient friction-reducing capabilities.

BACKGROUND There is limited evidence regarding the association between muscle strength and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(mAFLD).AIm To investigate the association between muscle strength and mAFLD in the general population in *** This nationwide representative cross-sectional study included 31649 individuals aged≥19 years who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2015 and *** ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)for mAFLD according to sex-specific quartiles of muscle strength,defined by relative handgrip strength,were calculated using multivariable logistic regression ***,multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between muscle strength and probable liver fibrosis in patients with *** Of all the participants,29.3%had *** prevalence of mAFLD was significantly higher in the lower muscle strength quartile groups for all participants,sexes,and age groups(PmAFLD was observed in the lowest quartile(Q1)group than in the other groups(Q2–Q4)and the highest quartile(Q4)group,*** ORs of mAFLD were significantly increased in the lower muscle strength quartile groups in a dose-dependent manner(P for trendmuscle strength and the risk of mAFLD was observed in all subgroups according to age,obesity,and diabetes *** patients with mAFLD,the odds of severe liver fibrosis were higher in Q1(OR=1.83,95%CI:1.25–2.69)than in other groups(Q2–Q4).CONCLUSION Among Korean adults,low muscle strength was associated with an increased risk of mAFLD and liver fibrosis in patients with mAFLD.

Adaptive Bayesian Inference for Discontinuous Inverse Problems,Application to Hyperbolic Conservation Laws

Various works from the literature aimed at accelerating Bayesian inference in inverse *** spectral methods have been recently proposed as surrogate approximations of the forward uncertainty propagation model over the support of the prior *** representations are efficient because they allow affordable simulation of a large number of samples from the posterior ***,they do not perform well when the forward model exhibits strong nonlinear behavior with respect to its *** this work,we first relate the fast(exponential)L2-convergence of the forward approximation to the fast(exponential)convergence(in terms of Kullback-Leibler divergence)of the approximate *** particular,we prove that in case the prior distribution is uniform,the posterior is at least twice as fast as the convergence rate of the forward model in those *** Bayesian inference strategy is developed in the framework of a stochastic spectral projection *** predicted convergence rates are then demonstrated for simple nonlinear inverse problems of varying *** then propose an efficient numerical approach for the Bayesian solution of inverse problems presenting strongly nonlinear or discontinuous system *** comes with the improvement of the forward model that is adaptively approximated by an iterative generalized Polynomial Chaos-based *** numerical approximations and predicted convergence rates of the former approach are compared to the new iterative numerical method for nonlinear time-dependent test cases of varying dimension and complexity,which are relevant regarding our hydrodynamics motivations and therefore regarding hyperbolic conservation laws and the apparition of discontinuities in finite time.

Timing of Proterozoic magmatism in the Sunsas belt, Bolivian Precambrian Shield, SW Amazonian Craton

We present new U–Pb zircon and monazite ages from the Sunsas belt granitic magmatism in Bolivia, SW Amazonian Craton. The geochronological results revealed four major magmatic events recorded along the Sunsas belt domains. The older igneous event formed a granitic basement coeval to the Rio Apa Terrane(1.95–1.85 ga) in the southern domain. The second magmatic episode is represented by 1.68 ga granites associated to the Paraguá Terrane(1.69–1.66 ga) in the northern domain. The 1.37–1.34 ga granites related to San Ignacio orogeny represent the third and more pervasive magmatic event, recorded throughout the Sunsas belt. moreover, magmatic ages of ~1.42 ga revealed that the granitogenesis associated to the Santa Helena orogeny also affected the Sunsas belt, indicating that it was not restricted to the Jauru Terrane. Lastly, the 1.10–1.04 ga youngest magmatism was developed during the Sunsas orogeny and represents the final magmatic evolution related to Rodinia assembly. Likewise, the 1.95–1.85 and 1.68 ga inherited zircon cores obtained in the ~1.3 ga and 1.0 ga granite samples suggest strong partial melting of the Paleoproterozoic sources. The 1079 ± 14 ma and 1018 ± 6 ma monazite crystallization ages can be correlated to the collisional tectono-thermal event of the Sunsas orogeny, associated to reactions of medium-to high-grade metamorphism. Thus, the Sunsas belt was built by heterogeneous 1.95–1.85 ga and 1.68 ga crustal fragments that were reworked at 1.37–1.34 ga and 1.10–1.04 ga related to orogenic collages. Furthermore, the 1.01 ga monazite age suggests that granites previously dated by zircon can bear evidence of a younger thermal history. Therefore, the geochronological evolution of the Sunsas belt may have been more complex than previously thought.
