Extracts from Marine Macroalgae and Opuntia ficus-indica Cladodes Enhance Halotolerance and Enzymatic Potential of Diazotrophic Rhizobacteria and Their impact on Wheat Germination Under Salt Stress

Soil salinity, which affects more than 6% of the earth’s land surface and more than 20% of its irrigated areas, is a major threat to agriculture. Diazotrophic bacteria are among the functional groups of soil microbiota that are threatened by this abiotic stress, as their activity is mostly inhibited by salt stress. Seventy bacterial strains with distinct characteristics were isolated from soils by using N-free Jensen’s selective medium. Based on their ability to produce metabolites of agricultural interest, four strains were selected and identified as Flavobacterium johnsoniae, Pseudomonas putida, Achromobacter xylosoxidans, and Azotobacter chroococcum. The selected strains were grown at different NaCl concentrations (0–600 mmol L^(-1) in N-free broth and 0–2 000 mmol L^(-1) in Luria-Bertani medium) in the presence and absence of glycine betaine (GB), aqueous and hydro-alcoholic extracts from marine macroalgae, Ulva lactuca and Enteromorpha intestinalis, and Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes. The selected bacterial strains, GB, and the aforementioned extracts were tested for their ability to promote the germination of wheat (Triticum durum) seeds at 0–300 mmol L^(-1) NaCl. compared with the results obtained with the synthetic osmoprotectant GB, the extracts from O. ficus-indica, U. lactuca, and E. intestinalis significantly promoted bacterial growth and seed germination under salt stress.

Nonlinear constrained optimization using the flexible tolerance method hybridized with different unconstrained methods

This paper proposes the use of the flexible tolerance method(FTM) modified with scaling of variables and hybridized with different unconstrained optimization methods to solve real constrained optimization *** benchmark problems used to analyze the performance of the methods were taken from G-Suite *** original method(FTM) and other four proposed methods:(i) FTM with scaling of variables(FTMS),(ii) FTMS hybridized with BFGS(FTMS-BFGS),(iii) FTMS hybridized with modified Powell's method(FTMS-Powell)and(iv) FTMS hybridized with PSO(FTMS-PSO), were implemented. The success rates of the methods were 80%,100%, 75%, 95% and 85%, for FTM, FTMS, FTMS-BFGS, FTMS-Powell and FTMS-PSO, respectively. Numerical experiments including real constrained problems indicated that FTMS gave the best performance, followed by FTMSPowell and FTMS-PSO. Despite the inferior performance compared to FTMS and FTMS-Powell, the FTMS-PSO method presented some advantages since good different initial points could be obtained, which allow exploring different routes through the solution space and to escape from local optima. The proposed methods proved to be an effective way of improving the performance of the original FTM.

An improved flexible tolerance method for solving nonlinear constrained optimization problems:Application in mass integration

This paper proposes the use of the flexible tolerance method(FTM) modified with adaptive Nelder–Mead parameters and barrier to solve constrained optimization problems. The problems used to analyze the performance of the methods were taken from G-Suite functions, and the methods with the best performance were applied in mass integration problems. Four methods were proposed:(1) flexible tolerance method(FTM) using adaptive parameters(FTMA),(2) flexible tolerance method with scaling(FTMS) and with adaptive parameters(FTMAS),(3) FTMS including the barrier modification(MFTMS) and(4) MFTMS hybridized with PSO(MFTMS-PSO). The success rates of these methods were 100%(MFTMS), 85%(MFTMS-PSO), 40%(FTMAS) and 30%(FTMA).Numerical experiments indicated that the MFTMS could efficiently and reliably improve the accuracy of global optima. in mass integration, the method was able, from current process situation, to reach the optimum process configuration that includes integration issues, which was not possible using FTM in its standard formulation. The hybridization of FTMS with PSO(without barrier), FTMS-PSO, was also able to solve mass integration problems efficiently.

The relationship between climate and labor flexibility has been distinguished as an antecedent of *** this sense,the objective of this work was to explore the factorial structure of the organizational binomial.A cross-sectional,psychometric,and correlational study was carried out with a sample of 100 employees from organizations in central *** were selected based on their affiliation with the local chamber of *** results show the prevalence of six factors related to the leadership climate,compensation,structure,logistics,contingencies,and *** total explained variance reached 71%,although the correlation analysis and the factorial structure indicate the inclusion of another factor that the literature identifies as entrepreneurial and innovative flexibility.

Clinical and Demographic Profile of Women with Uterine Fibroids Living in Puerto Rico

introduction: Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are prevalent benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantly impacting productivity and quality of life. Despite their commonality, the epidemiology and clinical patterns of leiomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequately researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data analysis using clinical, menstrual cycle characteristics, and demographic data from self-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. Chi-square tests and t-tests analyzed categorical and continuous variables, respectively (p Results: Among 1,610 endometriosis cases, 312 included uterine fibroids. Prevalence estimates were 10.3% (40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms included infertility (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). comorbidities included ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal uterine bleeding (37.8%). conclusions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension were prevalent in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiological profile of women living in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care.

Liver-inclusive intestinal transplantation results in decreased alloimmune-mediated rejection but increased infection

Background and aims:A co-transplanted liver allograft has been thought to protect other organs from rejection-mediated injury;however,detailed analyses of co-transplanted liver on intestinal allograft outcomes have not been conducted to *** aimof the study was to compare immune-mediated injury,causes of graft failure and clinical outcomes between recipients who underwent either a liver-inclusive intestinal transplant(LiTx)or liver-exclusive intestinal transplant(LETx).Methods:Between May 2000 and May 2010,212 adult patients undergoing LiTx(n¼76)and LETx(n¼136)were *** underwent either liver combined intestinal or full multivisceral *** underwent either isolated intestinal or modified multivisceral ***:During 44.9631.4 months of follow-up,death-censored intestinal graft survival was significantly higher for LiTx than LETx(96.9%,93.2%and 89.9%vs 91.4%,69.3%and 60.0%at 1,3 and 5 years;p¼0.0001).incidence of graft loss due to rejection was higher in LETx than in LiTx(30.9%vs 6.6%;pile infection was the leading cause of graft loss due to patient death in LiTx(25.0%vs 5.1%;pite similar immunosuppression,the average number(0.87 vs 1.42,p¼0.02)and severity of acute cellular rejection episode(severe grade:7.9%vs 21.3%;p¼0.01)were lower in LiTx than in *** of acute antibody-mediated rejection was also significantly lower in LiTx than in LETx(3.6%vs 15.2%;p¼0.03).incidence of chronic rejection was reduced in LiTx(3.9%vs 24.3%;p¼0.0002).conclusions:intestinal allografts with a liver component appear to decrease risk of rejection but increase risk of *** findings emphasize that LiTx has characteristic immunologic and clinical *** immunosuppression may need to be considered for patients who undergo LiTx to attenuate increased risk of infection.

Effect of piperine on the epididymis of adult male rats

Aim： To study the effect of piperine on the epididymal antioxidant system of adult male rats. Methods： Adult male rats were orally administered piperine at doses of 1 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight each day for 30 consecutive days. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment, the rats were weighed and killed with ether and the epididymis was dissected from the bodies. Sperm collected from the cauda region of the epididymis was used for the assessment of its count, motility and viability. Caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis were separated and homogenized separately to obtain 10 % homogenates. The supernatants were used for the assays of sialic acid, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide generation. Results： Body weight of the piperine-treated rats remained unchanged. The weights of the caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis significantly decreased at dose of 100 mg/kg. Epididymal sperm count and motility decreased at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, and sperm viability decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg. Sialic acid levels in the epididymis decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg while significant decrease in the cauda region alone was observed at 10 mg/kg. A significant decline in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, along with an increase in hydrogen peroxide generation and lipid peroxidation were observed at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. conclusion： Piperine caused a decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and sialic acid levels in the epididymis and thereby increased reactive oxygen species levels that could damage the epididymal environment and sperm function.

Effect of Eugenia winzerlingii Extracts on Bemisia tabaci and Evaluation of its Nursery Propagation

The development of plant-derived products to control Bemisia tabaci Genn.(Hemiptera:Aleyrodidae)is an urgent need for production of horticultural *** extracts and essential oils of several species of the genus Eugenia(Myrtaceae)have shown insecticidal *** southern Mexico,leaf extracts from Eugenia winzerlingii showed nematicidal effect but its insecticidal properties have not been ***,the objective of this study was to evaluate the insecticidal effect of aqueous and organic extracts from *** leaves on *** egg,nymph and adult stages,and else to explore its nursery ***,extracts of this species were obtained by maceration with different polarity *** were carried out on Capsicum chinense *** assays showed that aqueous and total crude ethanol(TCE)extracts necrosed the eggs(LC50=0.21%w/v and 4.68 mg/mL,respectively),whereas hexane,ethyl acetate(ETA),residual ethanol and TCE extracts affected the nymphs(LC50=0.25-4.85 mg/mL).in adults,oviposition inhibition by free choice assay indicated that TCE and ETA extracts had major activity(EC50=14.62 and 27.86μg/cm2,respectively).On other hand,the sexual and vegetative propagation of *** showed that this species can be easily cultivated by *** conclusion,extracts of *** leaves are highly effective in controlling *** extract,in particular,was toxic to three stages of *** plant could be a potential alternative to develop a novel botanical insecticide to manage this destructive pest.
