The development of zeolites possessing dendritic features represents a great opportunity for the design of novel materials with applications in a large variety of fields and,in particular,in the energy sector to afford its transition towards a low carbon system.In the current work,ZSM-5 zeolite showing a dendritic3D nanoarchitecture has been synthesized by the functionalization of protozeolitic nanounits with an amphiphilic organosilane,which provokes the branched aggregative growth of zeolite embryos.Dendritic ZSM-5 exhibits outstanding accessibility arising from a highly interconnected network of radially-oriented mesopores(3-10 nm)and large cavities(20-80 nm),which add to the zeolitic micropores,thus showing a well-defined trimodal pore size distribution.These singular features provide dendritic ZSM-5 with sharply enhanced performance in comparison with nano-and hierarchical reference materials when tested in a number of energy related applications,such as VOCs(toluene)adsorption(improved capacity),plastics(low-density polyethylene)catalytic cracking(boosted activity)and hydrogen production by methane catalytic decomposition(higher activity and deactivation resistance).

Urea is the most common nitrogen(N)fertilizer used in the tropics but it has the risk of high gaseous nitrogen(N)losses.Use of nitrification inhibitor has been suggested as a potential mitigation measure for gaseous N losses in N fertilizer-applied fields.In a field trial on a tropical Andosol pastureland in Costa Rica,gaseous emissions of ammonia(NH_(3))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)and grass yield were quantified from plots treated with urea(U;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1))and urea plus the nitrification inhibitor nitrapyrin(U+NI;41.7 kg N ha^(-1)application^(-1)and 350 g of nitrapyrin for each 100 kg of N applied)and control plots(without U and NI)over a six-month period(rainy season).Volatilization of NH_(3)(August to November)in U(7.4%±1.3%of N applied)and U+NI(8.1%±0.9%of N applied)were not significantly different(P>0.05).Emissions of N_(2)O in U and U+NI from June to November were significantly different(P<0.05)only in October,when N_(2)O emission in U+NI was higher than that in U.Yield and crude protein production of grass were significantly higher(P<0.05)in U and U+NI than in the control plots,but they were not significantly different between U and U+NI.There was no significant difference in yield-scaled N_(2)O emission between U(0.31±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry matter)and U+NI(0.47±0.10 g N kg^(-1)dry matter).The results suggest that nitrapyrin is not a viable mitigation option for gaseous N losses under typical N fertilizer application practices of pasturelands at the study site.

Introduction: The health and assistance crisis generated by the SARS-CoV2 pandemic has been a serious health problem and a major disruption to the general population, specifically to the most vulnerable groups as cancer patients. This situation is forcing health professionals to face and take on major challenges to maintain the necessary care. Aim: The main objective of this study is to maintain specialized psychological care for oncology patients, and in addition, to describe the principal psychological difficulties of our series of cases. Methods: Before the alarm state in Spain, the therapy was changed from face-to-face to telephone attendance and an e-mail account was opened for specific consultations in which a psycho-oncologist was present in GenesisCare Spain. The psychological interventions carried out during this time have had two characteristics: 1) Cognitive-behavioral therapeutic framework 2) Targeted and specific interventions on issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: From March 10 to April 30 (8 weeks), patients and families have been attended to by 2.5 senior psycho-oncologists. A total of 369 psychological services have been attended in Spain in 142 patients. The number of services per patient has ranged from 1 to 4. The median of the long consultation has been 45 minutes. A qualitative analysis, based on a psychological interview, was conducted on the areas of intervention and concerns of the patients served. BACKGROUND There is an increased risk of atherosclerosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C or human immunodeficiency virus,but there is scarce data on hepatitis B virus infection.The hypothesis of this study is that hepatitis B virus infection increases the risk of carotid plaques and subclinical atherosclerosis in naïve hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)negative subjects.AIM To assess the rate of carotid plaques and subclinical atherosclerosis in naïve HBeAg negative subjects in comparison with a cohort of healthy controls.METHODS Prospective case-control collaborative study conducted in two tertiary hospitals.Four hundred and two subjects prospectively recruited at the outpatient clinic were included from May 2016 to April 2017:201 naïve HBeAg-negative hepatitis B virus-infected[49 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)and 152 inactive carriers(ICs)]and 201 healthy controls.Anthropomorphic and metabolic measures,liver stiffness and carotid Doppler ultrasound were performed.Subclinical atherosclerosis was established on an intima-media thickness increase of≥1.2 mm and/or the presence of carotid plaques.Normally distributed quantitative variables were compared with the Student t test and those with a non-normal distribution with the Mann-Whitney U test.Categorical variables were compared between groups using theχ2 or Fisher exact test.RESULTS Carotid plaques were found more often in CHB(32.7%)than ICs(17.1%)or controls(18.4%)(P=0.048).Subclinical atherosclerosis was also increased in CHB(40.8%)vsICs(19.1%)or controls(19.4%)(P=0.003).No differences in the risk of atherosclerosis were observed between controls and ICs.The factors independently associated with the presence of carotid plaques were age[odds ratio(OR)1.43,P<0.001]and CHB(OR 1.18,P=0.004)and for subclinical atherosclerosis,age(OR 1.45,P<0.001),CHB(OR 1.23,P<0.001)and diabetes(OR 1.13,P=0.028).In the subset of young subjects(<50 years),carotid plaques(12.5%vs 1.1%,P=0.027)and subclinical atherosclerosis(12.5%vs 2.2%,P=0.058)were more frequent among CHB than ICs.CONCLUSIO

The involvement of aquaporins(AQPs)in the development of diseases has been widely described(Azad et al.,2021).AQP5 has been described in astrocytes changing after traumatic brain injuries(Chai et al.,2013),but the precise role of AQP5 in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)pathology is yet to be understood.We have recently reported that AQP5 expression changes during the development of AD(Antequera et al.,2022).The AQP5 expression in salivary glands is decreased in 6-month-old APP/PS1 mice and AD patients.This decrease in AQP5 expression could be involved in the mechanism of salivary gland dysfunction described in a previous study(Antequera et al.,2021).Now,we propose a new indirect role of AQP5 in the connection between infection-induced oral dysbiosis and AD(Sureda et al.,2020).Here,we suggest that the proinflammatory response induced by oral pathogen infection results in the downregulation of AQP5 contributing to the salivary gland secretory dysfunction.All these alterations destabilize the peripheral immune-inflammatory balance and exacerbate neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration leading to AD pathology.

This article describes the practice of co-evolutionary and transformative resilience through a case study con-ducted in Turin(Italy).According to a broad definition,resilience includes performing actions of urban design and planning,innovating community-based project procedures,and creating positive financial outcomes that are assessable because of the monitoring process of short-and long-term outcomes and impacts.Through the Turin-based case of the Bottom Up!Architecture Festival,this article observes processes in which resilience is in action in metropolitan areas,feeding urban projects and practices of self-organization of the social and financial actors involved.By applying the definition of community projects,the festival manages to take territorial problems and crises(the pandemic,inequality,etc.)and view them as an opportunity to change the system,recommending in-tegrated action on the natural,cultural,financial,and social capital,innovating practices and holding society and institutions more accountable.The transformation of spaces relies on collaborations between social and institu-tional actors,operating spatially concentrated transformations in the city of Turin,and using flexible governance tools based on co-planning and crowdfunding for project design and financing.

The misfolding and aggregation of a-synuclein is the general hallmark of a group of devastating neurodegenerative pathologies referred to as synucleinopathies,such as Parkinson’s disease,dementia with Lewy bodies,and multiple system atrophy.In such conditions,a range of different misfolded aggregates,including oligomers,protofibrils,and fibrils,are present both in neurons and glial cells.Growing expe rimental evidence supports the proposition that solu ble oligomeric assemblies,formed during the early phases of the aggregation process,are the major culprits of neuronal toxicity;at the same time,fibrillar confo rmers appear to be the most efficient at propagating among interconnected neurons,thus contributing to the spreading ofα-synuclein pathology.Moreover,α-synuclein fibrils have been recently repo rted to release soluble and highly toxic oligomeric species,responsible for an immediate dysfunction in the recipient neurons.In this review,we discuss the current knowledge about the plethora of mechanisms of cellular dysfunction caused byα-synuclein oligome rs and fibrils,both contributing to neurodegeneration in synucleinopathies.

Lactoferrin is an antimicrobial prote in characterized by the exertion of many protective functions,including antibacterial,antifungal,antiviral,and antiparasitic properties,as well as anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities(Kruzel et al.,2017).Lactoferrin is one of the major proteins present in exocrine secretions,including saliva,and is therefore associated with host defense against oral pathogens and control of the oral microbiome.In recent years,it has become clear that alterations in the oral microbiome may contribute to opportunistic pathogen infections in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)patients and thus participate in or contribute to the development of this neurodegenerative disease(Sureda et al.,2020).Pathogenic oral microbes can affect neurological processes by entering brain tissue through various pathways and directly damaging the central nervous system.In the central nervous system,oral microbes may trigger an immune response that increases amyloidβ(Aβ)production and may even trigger the Aβcascade to promote the onset of AD,as we discuss in our previous study supporting the“infectious hypothesis”in AD(González-Sánchez et al.,2020).
