background:In the context of the search for cost-efficient treatments,Ulmo(Eurcyphia cordifolia)honey is an excellent alternative for treating burn wounds and could have a profound medical,social,and economic *** acid is an enzymatic co-factor necessary for the synthesis of collagen and the proliferation of fibroblasts and has been proposed as a coadjuvant to strengthen the healing effects of *** aim of this work was to evaluate by morphometric studies the healing wounds caused by burns treated with Ulmo honey alone and supplemented with ascorbic acid in guinea pig(Cavia porcellus).Methods:Fifteen guinea pigs were used and divided randomly into three groups:positive control(C+),experimental with unsupplemented honey(H),and experimental with supplemented honey(SH).A uniform deep burn covering 1 cm2of the back skin was *** following indices were calculated for the morphometric study:superficial contraction index of the wound,deep contraction index of the wound,wound severity index,global healing index,global contraction index,and dermal proliferation ***:The superficial contraction index of the wound,global healing index,global contraction,and dermal proliferation area values of the experimental with supplemented honey group were higher than the other groups(Prding to these results,the combination of honey with an antioxidant(ascorbic acid)promotes an appropriate action to support the healing *** study showed that by supplementing the Ulmo honey with ascorbic acid,the healing and contraction effects can be strengthened in burn wounds compared to unsupplemented *** results were proof of the synergy between honey and ascorbic acid in healing burn wounds.

Compelling evidence derived from clinical and experimental research has demonstrated the crucial contribution of chronic inflammation in the development of neoplasms,including gallbladder *** this regard,data derived from clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated that the receptor of advanced glycation end-products(rAGE)/AGEs axis plays an important role in the onset of a crucial and long-lasting inflammatory milieu,thus supporting tumor growth and *** are formed in biological systems or foods,and food-derived AGEs,also known as dietary AGEs are known to contribute to the systemic pool of *** they bind to rAGE,the activation of multiple and crucial signaling pathways are triggered,thus favoring the secretion of several proinflammatory cytokines also involved in the promotion of gallbladder cancer invasion and *** the present review,we aimed to highlight the relevance of the association between high dietary AGEs intakes and high risk for gallbladder cancer,and emerging data supporting that dietary intervention to reduce gallbladder cancer risk is a very attractive approach that deserves much more research efforts.

The lifespan of biological heart valve prostheses available in the market is limited due to structural alterations caused by calcium phosphate deposits formed from blood plasma in contact with the *** objective of this work is to present a comparative methodology for the investigation of the formation of calcium phosphate deposits on bioprosthetic and tissue-engineered scaffolds in vitro and the influence of mechanical forces on tissue *** on earlier investigations on biological mineralization at constant supersaturation,a circulatory loop simulating dynamic blood flow and physiological pressure conditions was *** system was appropriately adapted to evaluate the calcification potential of decellularized(DCV)and glutaraldehyde-fixed(GAV)porcine aortic *** indicated that DCV calcified at higher,statistically nonsignificant,rates in comparison with *** difference was attributed to the tissue surface modifications and cell debris leftovers from the decellularization *** analysis of the solids deposited after 20 h by scanning electron microscopy in combination with chemical microanalysis electron-dispersive spectroscopy identified the solid formed as octacalcium phosphate(Ca8(PO4)6H2·5H2O,OCP).OCP crystallites were preferentially deposited in high mechanical stress areas of the test ***,GAV tissues developed a significant transvalvular pressure gradient increase past 36 h with a calcium deposition distribution similar to the one found in explanted *** conclusion,the presented in vitro circulatory model serves as a valuable prescreening methodology for the investigation of the calcification process of bioprosthetic and tissue-engineered valves under physiological mechanical load.

Despite the bi-directional interaction between gut microbiota and the brain not being fully understood,there is increasing evidence arising from animal and human studies that show how this intricate relationship may facilitate inflammatory bowel disease(IbD)pathogenesis,with consequent important implications on the possibility to improve the clinical outcomes of the diseases themselves,by acting on the different components of this system,mainly by modifying the *** the emergence of precision medicine,strategies in which patients with IbD might be categorized other than for standard gut symptom complexes could offer the opportunity to tailor therapies to individual *** aim of this narrative review is to elaborate on the concept of the gutbrain-microbiota axis and its clinical significance regarding IbD on the basis of recent scientific literature,and finally to focus on pharmacological therapies that could allow us to favorably modify the function of this complex system.

Compelling shreds of evidence derived from both clinical and experimental research have demonstrated the crucial contribution of receptor for advanced glycation end products(rAGE)axis activation in the development of neoplasms,including gastric cancer(GC).This new actor in tumor biology plays an important role in the onset of a crucial and long-lasting inflammatory milieu,not only by supporting phenotypic changes favoring growth and dissemination of tumor cells,but also by functioning as a pattern-recognition receptor in the inflammatory response to Helicobacter pylori *** the present review,we aim to highlight how the overexpression and activation of the rAGE axis contributes to the proliferation and survival of GC cells as and their acquisition of more invasive phenotypes that promote dissemination and ***,the contribution of some single nucleotide polymorphisms in the rAGE gene as susceptibility or poor prognosis factors is also discussed.

Atacama Field Campaign: laboratory and in-situ measurements for remote sensing applications

This work presents the preliminary results of the first field calibration campaign performed in the Atacama Desert,Chile,between the 18 and 22 August 2014,called the Atacama Field Campaign(ATAFIC 2014).In situ measurements were performed in order to spectrally characterize the surface reflectance spectra between 0.3 and 2.5μm,radiometric temperature(8.0–14.0μm)and atmospheric measurements.A soil sample was collected and analyzed using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and X-ray Diffraction techniques to characterize the surface reflectance spectra and mineralogical composition,*** land surface emissivity in addition to GOES,MODIS and Landsat-8 land surface temperature(LST)were also *** showed that the spectral features of the Atacama soil and the characteristics of this geographical zone,which is featured as the most hyper-arid and cloudless place in the world,make this area a potential target for surface reflectance *** and night LST comparison between field and remote sensing data are lower than 2 K and the root Mean Square Error for land surface emissivity is close to 2%.This work opens the possibilities to consider the Atacama Desert as a reference target for calibration and validation activities for earth observation missions’purposes.

Objective: To determinate the recovery of total polyphenolic compounds content,in vitro antioxidant activity and HPLC/ESI/MS characterization of extract from Nephelium lappaceum L.(Mexican rambutan).Methods: The rambutan husk extract was obtained by aqueous extraction and a polyphenolic fraction was recovered using Amberlite XAD-16. The total polyphenolic compounds content was determined by the Folin Ciocalteu and butanol-HCI *** vitro antioxidant activity was performed using AbTS and ferric reducing antioxidant power ***: Mexican rambutan husk showed a total polyphenolic content of 582 mg/g and an evident antioxidant activity by AbTS and ferric reducing antioxidant power *** HPLC/ESI/MS assay allowed the identification of 13 compounds, most of which belong to ellagitannins. Geraniin, corilagin and ellagic acid were present in the sample;the mineral composition was also ***: rambutan husk cultivated in Mexico is a promising source for the recovery of added value bioactive compounds with antioxidant activity, which have potential applications as bioactive antioxidant agents for the treatment of diseases.

Dear Editor, Infertility is a major health problem affecting 10%-15% of couples seeking to have children, and a male factor can be identified in about half of these cases.1 Nonobstructive azoospermia is one of the causes of male infertility （10%）, resulting from testicular failure？ The most common histological patterns in these patients are hypospermatogenesis （HS）, maturation arrest （MA）, and Sertoli cell-only syndrome （SCO）.3

A Comparative Environmental Evaluation of the Coal and Natural Gas Life Cycle

Natural gas and coal are the main primary energy resources used in the romanian energy sector, 73.7% in 2011, taking into account the fuel imports. The objective of the article consists in analyzing all the processes along the coal and the natural gas life cycle in order to assess their overall environmental impact. Two energy technologies were analyzed, for each resource: the pulverized coal combustion with supra-critical parameters and CO2 capture unit and the natural gas combined cycle. Considering the functional unit of electricity production for 1 year, it was found that the natural gas combined cycle remains the more interesting energy technology from an environmental point of view. However, the pulverized coal with supra-critical parameters equipped with a CO2 capture unit has the lowest environmental impact on the climate change. The weakest point of the coal technology is its low efficiency.

Apart from enabling its individuals to cope with external reality, to varying extents a culture may also disable them for identity purposes, i.e., to make them fit into specific roles defining that culture＇s self-representation and hence adequate to reality as perceived by it. rendering explicit the underlying assumptions of this process through a phenomenological analysis constitutes a necessary step toward a version of education extended beyond schools, and as such meant to deepen the self-understanding of the society in case as a whole. A local cultural sanction can be regarded as symptom of a problematic normalization within the wider, global context--at least as a form of moral apathy if not quite what psychiatrists call ＂la belle indifference＂. Within the international context of education, passive resistance through inculcated shyness acquires a peculiar status closely analyzed here. To remain non-judgmental would mean to make concessions to such resistances, to ascribe to taboo--ultimately, to institute a detrimental cult of the them a sacrosanct status and to protect them by means of a unnamable and unspeakable in the cross-cultural dialogue.
