Cyclic loading of marble:Correlating the attenuation of the electric and acoustic activities and highlighting criticality indices in terms of natural time

The attenuation of the acoustic activity in marble specimens under uniaxial compressive loadingunloading loops is quantified in juxtaposition to that of the electric *** parallel,the existence of"pre-failure indiceso"warning about entrance into a critical stage,that of impending fracture,is *** acoustic activity is quantified in terms of the normalized number of acoustic hits,their average rate of production and their cumulative energy,and,the cumulative counts and their average rate of *** electric activity is studied in terms of the pressure stimulated currents and the electric charge *** analysis revealed that the acoustic and electric activities are linearly correlated to each other,suggesting that they are different manifestations of the same damage *** addition,Kaiser's effect,governing the acoustic activity,is found to govern,also,the electric ***,it is concluded that entrance into the critical stage is safely predicted by means of a simple criterion,based on the evolution of the average rate of change of the normalized cumulative counts in the natural time *** predictions are almost identical with those of the criterion based on the "varianceo" and the "entropies" of the time series of acoustic events in this domain.

Embeddings of Generalised Morrey Smoothness Spaces

We study embeddings between generalised Triebel–Lizorkin–Morrey spacesε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))and within the scales of further generalised Morrey smoothness spaces like N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)),B_(p,q)^(s,ϕ)(R^(d))and F_(p,q)^(s,ϕ)(R^(d)).The latter have been investigated in a recent paper by the first two authors(2023),while the embeddings of the scale N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))were mainly obtained in a paper of the first and last two authors(2022).Now we concentrate on the characterisation of the spacesε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)).Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of those spaces which we establish for the system of daubechies’*** we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the embeddingε_(ϕ1,p1,q1)^(s1)(R^(d))→ε_(2ϕ2,p2,q2)^(s)(R^(d)).We can also provide some almost final answer to the question whenε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))is embedded into C(R^(d)),complementing our recent findings in case of N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)).

A comprehensive investigation on nonlinear vibration and bending characteristics of bio-inspired helicoidal laminated composite structures

Bio-inspired helicoidal composite laminates, inspired by the intricate helical structures found in nature, present a promising frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties of structural designs. Hence, this study provides a comprehensive investigation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-inspired composite plates. The inverse hyperbolic shear deformation theory(IHSdT) of plates is employed to characterize the displacement field, with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. The problem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB environment to solve it numerically. Various helicoidal layup configurations including helicoidal recursive(HR), helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-circular(HS), linear helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup sequences and quasi-isotropic configurations are studied. The model is validated, and parametric studies are conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configurations, side-to-thickness ratio, modulus ratios, boundary conditions, and loading conditions at different load amplitudes on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors of bio-inspired composite plates. The results show that the laminate sequence exerts a substantial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies and nonlinear bending behaviors. Moreover, this influence varies across different side-to-thickness ratios and boundary conditions of the bio-inspired composite plate.

Tailoring sub-5 nm Fe-doped CeO2 nanocrystals within confined spaces to boost photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible light

This work aimed to study the efficiency of the reverse micelle（RM） preparation route in the syntheses of sub-5 nm Fe-doped CeO2nanocrystals for boosting the visible-light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production from methanol aqueous *** effectiveness of confining precipitation reactions within micellar cages was evaluated through extensive physicochemical cha *** particula r,the nominal composition（0-5 mol% Fe） was preserved as ascertained by ICP-MS analysis,and the absence of separate iron-containing crystalline phases was supported by X-ray *** effective aliovalent doping and modulation of the optical properties were investigated using UV-Vis,Raman,and photoluminescence spectroscopies.2.5 mol% iron was found to be an optimal content to achieve a significant decrease in the band gap,enhance the concentration of oxygen vacancy defects,and increase the charge carrier *** photocatalytic activity of Fe-doped CeO2prepared at different Fe contents with RM preparation was studied and compared with undoped *** optimal iron load was identified to be2.5 mol%,achieving the highest hydrogen production(7566 μmol L-1after 240 min under visible light).Moreover,for comparison,the conventional precipitation（P） method was adopted to prepare iron containing CeO2at the optimal content（2.5 mol% Fe）.The Fe-doped CeO2catalyst prepared by RM showed a significantly higher hydrogen production than that obtained with the sample prepared by the P *** optimal Fe-doped CeO2,prepared by the RM method,was stable for six reuse ***,the role of water in the mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible light was studied through the test in the presence of *** obtained results evidenced that hydrogen was produced from the reduction of H+by the electrons promoted in the conduction band,while methanol was preferentially oxidized by the photogenerated positive holes.

Signalling and Control of Nonlinear Partially Observable Stochastic Systems:Information States, Sufficient Statistics, and Applications

In this paper the authors consider the operational problem of optimal signalling and control,called control-coding capacity(with feedback), CF B in bits/second, of discrete-time nonlinear partially observable stochastic systems in state space form, subject to an average cost constraint. CF B is the maximum rate of encoding signals or messages into randomized controller-encoder strategies with feedback, which control the state of the system, and reproducing the messages at the output of the system using a decoder or estimator with arbitrary small asymptotic error probability. In the first part of the paper, the authors characterize CF B by an information theoretic optimization problem of maximizing directed information from the inputs to the outputs of the system, over randomized strategies(controller-encoders). The authors derive equivalent characterizations of CF B, using randomized strategies generated by either uniform or arbitrary distributed random variables(RVs), sufficient statistics,and a posteriori distributions of nonlinear filtering theory. In the second part of the paper, the authors analyze CF B for linear-quadratic Gaussian partially observable stochastic systems(LQG-POSSs). The authors show that randomized strategies consist of control, estimation and signalling parts, and the sufficient statistics are, two Kalman-filters and an orthogonal innovations process. The authors prove a semi-separation principle which states, the optimal control strategy is determined explicitly from the solution of a control matrix difference Riccati equation(dRE), independently of the estimation and signalling strategies. Finally, the authors express the optimization problem of CF B in terms of two filtering matrix dREs, a control matrix dRE, and the covariance of the innovations process. dP/dt_(max):An underestimated prognostic factor in large animal infarction model

The present study aims to establish a reproducible large animal experimental unit using a minipig model to monitor cardiac function changes.A 90-min closed-chest bal-loon occlusion of the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery was used to induce myocardial infarction in Pannon *** monitor the cardiac function,measurements were made by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging(cMRI),invasive pressure monitoring,and a Pulse index Continuous Cardiac Output(PiCCO)hemo-dynamic system at 0,72,and 720 h during the follow-up ***-diastolic and end-systolic volumes(EdV,ESV),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)obtained by cMRI evaluation,global ejection fraction and aortic dP/dt_(max)obtained by the invasive method,were recorded and *** 72-and 720-h EdV data showed a signifi-cant increase(p=0.012,d to baseline,and the day 30 data showed a significant increase compared to day 3(p=0.022).The ESV 72 h after the infarction showed a significant increase(p=0.001)compared to baseline,which did not change significantly by day 30(p=0.781)compared to day *** and ESV were signifi-cantly negatively correlated with aortic dp_(max),and ESV was significantly correlated with *** LVEF and dP_(max),a significant(pd p=0.002)worsening was demonstrated at day 3 compared to baseline,which was no longer statistically de-tectable for LVEF at day 30(p=0.141),while the difference for dP_(max)was maintained(p=0.002).The complementary use of PiCCO hemodynamic measurements in large animal models makes the previously used methodologies more robust and reliable.

dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase polymorphisms in patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and their impact on fluoropyrimidine tolerability: Experience from a single Italian institution

BACKGROUNd Fluoropyrimidines are metabolized in the liver by the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase(dPd),encoded by the dPYd *** 7%of the European population is a carrier of dPYd gene polymorphisms associated with reduced dPd enzyme *** To assess the prevalence of dPYd polymorphisms and their impact on fluoropyrimidine tolerability in Italian patients with gastrointestinal *** A total of 300 consecutive patients with a diagnosis of gastrointestinal malignancy and treated with a fluoropyrimidine-based regimen were included in the analysis and divided into two cohorts:(1)149 patients who started fluoropyrimidines after dPYd testing;and(2)151 patients treated without dPYd *** the patients in cohort A,15%tested only the dPYd2A polymorphism,19%tested four polymorphisms(dPYd2A,HapB3,c.2846A>T,and dPYd13),and 66%tested five polymorphisms including *** Overall,14.8%of patients were found to be carriers of a dPYd variant,the most common being dPYd6(12.1%).Patients in cohort A reported≥G3 toxicities(P=0.00098),particularly fewer nonhematological toxicities(P=0.0028)compared with cohort B,whereas there was no statistically significant difference between the two cohorts in hematological toxicities(P=0.6944).Significantly fewer chemotherapy dose reductions(P=0.00002)were observed in cohort A compared to cohort B,whereas there was no statistically significant differences in chemotherapy *** Although this study had a limited sample size,it provides additional information on the prevalence of dPYd polymorphisms in the Italian population and highlights the role of pharmacogenetic testing to prevent severe toxicity.

Machine learning empowers efficient design of ternary organic solar cells with PM6 donor

Organic solar cells(OSCs) hold great potential as a photovoltaic technology for practical ***, the traditional experimental trial-and-error method for designing and engineering OSCs can be complex, expensive, and time-consuming. Machine learning(ML) techniques enable the proficient extraction of information from datasets, allowing the development of realistic models that are capable of predicting the efficacy of materials with commendable accuracy. The PM6 donor has great potential for high-performance OSCs. However, it is crucial for the rational design of a ternary blend to accurately forecast the power conversion efficiency(PCE) of ternary OSCs(TOSCs) based on a PM6 ***, we collected the device parameters of PM6-based TOSCs and evaluated the feature importance of their molecule descriptors to develop predictive models. In this study, we used five different ML algorithms for analysis and prediction. For the analysis, the classification and regression tree provided different rules, heuristics, and patterns from the heterogeneous dataset. The random forest algorithm outperforms other prediction ML algorithms in predicting the output performance of PM6-based TOSCs. Finally, we validated the ML outcomes by fabricating PM6-based TOSCs. Our study presents a rapid strategy for assessing a high PCE while elucidating the substantial influence of diverse descriptors.

decades of research asserted that the oligodendroglial lineage comprises two cell types:oligodendrocyte precursor cells and ***,recent studies employing single-cell RNA sequencing techniques have uncovered novel cell states,prompting a revision of the existing *** forward,the oligodendroglial lineage should be delineated into five distinct cell states:oligodendrocyte precursor cells,committed oligodendrocyte precursor cells,newly formed oligodendrocytes,myelin-forming oligodendrocytes,and mature *** new classification system enables a deeper understanding of the oligodendroglia in both physiological and pathological *** this uniform terminology will facilitate comparison and integration of data across ***,including the consolidation of findings from various demyelinating models,is essential to better understand the pathogenesis of demyelinating ***,comparing injury models across species with varying regenerative capacities can provide insights that may lead to new therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination ***,by standardizing terminology and synthesizing data from diverse studies across different animal models,we can enhance our understanding of myelin pathology in central nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis,Alzheimer's disease,and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,all of which involve oligodendroglial and myelin dysfunction.
