Despite the efforts made by the Malian government with technical and financial partners in the fight against HIV and AIDS, there are no data on the evolution of people with HIV in medical consultation in antiretroviral treatment sites. The objective of this work is to fill this gap by generating factual data describing the evolution of the number of people with HIV in medical consultation in Mali. To achieve this goal, we conducted a cross-sectional study using data from the Coordination Unit of the Sectoral Committee for AIDS Control of the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene. Sampling was comprehensive including all people living with HIV. The data collected concerned those of the years 1999 to 2014 by the ESOPE software and analyzed with Stata version 12. A Total of 39,619 people were enrolled in the study. And 26,212 people living with HIV in the 17 ESOPE sites of Mali were female. Patients aged 25-34 and 35-44 years were strongly represented in consultation in the years 2007 and 2011, and those aged 15-24 were the least frequent. HIV1 was the most dominant with 97%. The majority of patients presented for initial consultation were clinical stages 2 and 3 in all years. Cases of lost sites seen in the more common in hospitals are 62.79% at the Hospital of Mopti and 57% at the University Hospital of Point G. The number of cases of people living with HIV in medical consultation has progressively augmented from 1999-2007. Then it dropped from 2008-2010. After this number has increased by 2011, it dropped again in 2012-2014. This study made it possible to note the evolution of the patients in medical consultation in ESOPE antiretroviral treatment sites according to the years and events (safe, subsidized by activities by the global fund). The activities of sensitization and communications, case research should be strengthened by involving the community.

The urban environment is confronted with recurring calamities including floods, landslides and forced escapes of populations during periods of rain. In Côte d’Ivoire, the municipalities of Abobo and Attécoubé suffered enormous material and human damage following the torrential rains of 2014. These urbanized areas are built on large plateaus bordered by thalwegs where 61% of these areas have no drainage network, thus facing a lack of sanitation. Moreover, topographical, rainfall, anthropogenic and technical conditions are factors explaining the occurrence of natural disasters and their consequences in the said communes. The objective of this article is to assess the socio-economic impact of the occurrence of hazards. It focuses on the identification of risk sectors in the municipalities of Abobo and Attécoubé and the material, human and economic consequences that result from rain accidents.

In the north of Cote d’Ivoire, the rural economy is heavily dependent on cotton cultivation which is characterized by low yield. One of the main causes of low productivity is low level of soil fertility caused by erosion. The stone barriers technique is used to fight against erosion and to improve soil fertility. This work was carried out to assess the effects during 1-year-old stone barriers on selected soil physicochemical properties on two geographical locations where soil samples from 0 to 30 cm depth were selected. A total of 60 composite soil samples (30 × 2) were collected. One year after installing the stone bunds in cotton cultivation, the soil was sampled under the same conditions. The soil samples were analyzed for pH (H2O), organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), available phosphorus (Av.P), cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchange bases (Ca, K, Mg, Na) and particle size (clay, coarse silt and sand) contents. The results show that the stone bunds significantly increased the water pH, the soil levels of calcium, magnesium, silt and coarse sand. On the other hand, they significantly lowered the levels of assimilable phosphorus, clay and fine sand in soils. CEC and soil carbon, nitrogen, potassium, sodium and fine silt content did not vary significantly. This study must be repeated in the years to come in order to determine the impact of stone barriers in the medium and long term on soil fertility in the north of Côte d’Ivoire.

Currently, in a context of sustainable development, the economic and environmental challenges incite, to valorize local materials such as clays and agro-industrial waste. It is in this approach that a new category of compressed earth bricks (BTC) stabilized with shea meal (TK) and cement was proposed. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of shea meal rate on the thermal conductivity properties of cement stabilized earth bricks. A lateritic clay (lat) mainly composed of kaolinite (38.44%), quartz (24.94%), goethite (12.28%), hematite (4.44%) and illite (19.9%) was used to make bricks. Different mix designs made up of lateritic clay and 5% cement were studied. The shea meal is added as a partial lateritic clay replacement in different proportions. The thermal conductivity was determined by hot disk method and correlated to both porosity and density of elaborated materials. The results obtained show that the thermal conductivity and density of bricks decrease respectively from 0.72 W·m-1·K-1 to 0.52 W·m-1·K-1 and from 2.77 g·cm-3 to 2.52 g·cm-3. The presence of shea meal within the material generates pore formation, which may partly explain the improvement of the thermal insulation properties. A positive correlation was noted between density and thermal conductivity of these materials.

The reactivity of the recycled glass powder (GP) in a cementitious medium has been studied over time by means of X-ray diffraction and thermal gravimetric analysis. Two different mixtures based on cement/glass powder (0 or 20 wt% GP) and lime/glass powder (70 wt% GP) were considered. Analysis revealed the coexistence of both hydration and pozzolanic reaction during the hardening of the mortars. At young age, the cement hydration would prevail over the pozzolanic one resulting in a decrease of physico-chemical le="font-family:"">and mechanical properties of the material due to the dilution effect. The pozzolanic reaction that predominates from 91 days, would induce the formation of supplementary C-S-H leading to improve the material properties.

Evidence of long-Term Trend of Visibility in the Sahel and Coevolution with Meteorological Conditions and Vegetation Cover during the Recent Period

In this study, the long term trend of the observed visibility data used directly (without conversion into dust concentrations) over Sahel was investigated between 1957 and 2013. Then, to review the influence of atmospheric factors and land surface conditions on this trend, the coevolution between the visibility and the dust surface mass concentration from MERRA-2 (Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications) reanalysis, the in-situ surface meteorological data (rainfall, relative humidity, wind speed, and air temperature), as well as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were analyzed from 2000 to 2013. We showed that the horizontal visibility has significantly decreased since the 1970s. The coevolution between the visibility and the dust surface mass concentration revealed that visibility decreased significantly with increments in dust concentrations. Visibility increases with rainfall and relative humidity. It is greater in areas of high vegetation cover than in deforested areas. Visibility is weakly correlated with wind speed and air temperature but generally, wind leads to a decrease in visibility, while warm air temperature is associated with a clearer sky and hence, high visibility. The worst visibility in the dry season results from high dust concentrations due to warm and dry wind conditions and less vegetation cover. Rainfall, relative humidity and vegetation cover are the dominant factors contributing to the decrease of dust loading in the Sahel.
