Objective:Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(NGAL),a member of the lipocalin family,was implicated in the progression of several tumor ***, experimental evidence linking NGAL expression to the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) is ***,some experiments were designed to explore the role of NGAL in the progression of ***: NGAL was stably overexpressed in the human ESCC cell line EC109 which normally expresses only low levels of NGAL, and these cells were used to measure cell proliferation by MTT assay and colony formation assay,the ability of cell migration and invasion of Matrigel were evaluated by cell invasiveness and chamber-migration *** was used to measure matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) activity. Western blotting was used to assess phosphorylation of ERK,and immunofluorescence was used to visualize the Factin cytoskeleton.A mouse model established by injecting EC109 cells expressing NGAL into the tail vein of severe combined immunodeficiency(SCID) mice was employed to address the effect of NGAL on body weight,food intake, rate of cachexia,and survival of ***:NGAL overexpression increased the proliferation,migration,invasiveness, and matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) activity of EC109 cells and triggered rearrangement of the cytoskeleton and activation of ERK in the *** vivo experiments, many SCID mice inoculated with NGAL-transfected cells displayed a severe weakness,a hunchback,reduction in food intake and weight loss,all symptoms of cachexia,before dying. But,fewer SCID mice injected with the control cells appeared to have this cachexia-like syndrome,and there were significantly different in body weight loss,the rates of cachexia and the survival of ***:These data suggest a model for ESCC in which NGAL acts through the ERK/MAPK pathway to stimulate rearrangement of the cytoskeleton and alteration of cell proliferation,migration,and invasiveness,which results in a

A two-dimensional computational model is develope for the calulation of tides, storm surges and otherlong-period waves in coastal and shelf waters. The Partial differental equations are approximated by two sets of difference equations on a space-staggered grid system. Both sets are explicit with one set for water level and x-component velocity, and another for water level and y-component velocity. These two sets are used successively for stepby-step solution in time. An analytical investigation on the linearized sets of the difference equations indicates that thecomputational scheme is unconditionally stable. The model is of second order accuracy both in space and in time andconserves mass and momentum. Simulations of surface elevation caused by periodic forcing in one-opening rectangularbasin with flat topography and by steady wind stress in the basin with flat or slope topography show that the computed results are in excellent agreement with the corresponding analytic solutions. The steady-tate wind-induced setupin a ofed basin with discontinuous topography computed with the present model are also in excellent agreement withthe results from Leendertse's model. Finally, the model is applied to hindcast a storm surge in the South china Seaand reproduces the surge elevation satisfactorily.

Traditional econometrics has long employed ＂points＂ to measure time series data. In real life situations, however, it suffers the loss of volatility information, since many variables are bounded by intervals in a given period. To address this issue, this paper provides a new methodology for interval time series analysis. The concept of ＂interval stochastic process＂ is formally defined as a counterpart of ＂stochastic process＂ in point-based econometrics. The authors introduce the concepts of interval stationarity, interval statistics （including interval mean, interval variance, etc.） and propose an interval linear model to investigate the dynamic relationships between interval processes. A new interval-based optimization approach for estimation is proposed, and corresponding evaluation criteria are derived. To demonstrate that the new interval method provides valid results, an empirical example on the sterling-dollar exchange rate is presented.
