For scientific papers, these parameters are important to authors as well as to readers, especially for scientists who wish to understand the theory or to replicate the results. Today, most scientific and humanities journals are published in English. There are journals in Chinese, German, Hindi, Russian and other languages;however, for international use in science, business, and computer hardware and software, English is the dominant language. English is also used in diplomacy and for all kinds of international communications by people who have various other native languages. Thermochronological constraints on two pulses of Cenozoic high-K magmatism in eastern Tibet

The previously published U-Pb and 40Ar/39Ar ages and our 21 newly-obtained 40Ar/39Ar ages suggest that the Cenozoic magmatism in eastern Tibet and Indochina occurred in two episodes, each with distinctive geochemical signatures, at (40—28) Ma and (16—0) Ma. The older rocks are localized along the major strike-slip faults such as the Jinsha-Red River fault system and erupted synchronously with transpression. The younger rocks are widely distributed in rift basins and coeval with the east-west extension of Tibet and eastern Asia. Combining with their geochemical data, we consider that the earlier magmatic phase was generated by continental subduction, while the later volcanic phase was caused by decompression melting of a recently meta- somatically-altered, depleted mantle source. The magmatic gap between the two igneous pulses represents an important geodynamic transition in the evolution of eastern Tibet, from the processes controlled mainly by crustal deformation to those largely dominated by mantle tectonics.

It is well known that whales in captivity suffer from dorsal fin bending. However, the mechanisms behind this change are poorly understood. Humans can suffer from similar symptoms either after a period of immobilization or after suffering a brain lesion. Therefore, we here speculate whether the bent dorsal fins are reflecting contracture development in whales.

Background: Acute effects of Far Infrared (FIR) treatment in horses are unknown, especially short periods of 30 minutes, as is any effect on such muscle parameters as warm-up balance, overall exercise balance and laterality asymmetries. Aim: This study examines three equine cases in detail to measure any effects of a short period of FIR treatment. Methods: Multi-frequency bioimpedance (mfBIA) and acoustic myography (AMG), non-invasive techniques, were applied pre- and post-treatment with FIR to the back (T5-L4/5) and for *** dorsi and *** medius was recorded during a 15-minute warm-up regimen. mfBIA parameters included extracellular resistance (Re), centre frequency (fc), membrane capacitance (Mc), intracellular resistance (Ri) and phase angle (PA) which indicates level of training and health status. Results: FIR treatment responses for mfBIA parameters were found to be horse-specific and different, whilst in terms of AMG, FIR treatment for 30 minutes had a beneficial effect on overall balance in all three horses (5 out of 6 muscles), and a beneficial effect on the AMG parameter ST (force symmetry) in all three horses (6 out of 6 muscles). An overall improvement for combined balance and ST values for both muscles and all three horses of 86% was noted with FIR treatment, compared to 56% without. Conclusions: This preliminary study of FIR treatment in three horses, has been found to result in an overall improvement in combined balance and ST values for both muscles. FIR has potential as a promising treatment to reduce the risk of warm-up-related injuries in athletic horses.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) remains a rare but significant disease, which affects mainly young males in association with inflammatory bowel disease. There have been few advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis of the condition and no therapeutics with proven mortality benefit aside from liver transplantation. There remain areas of controversy in the management of PSC which include the differentiation from other cholangiopathies, in particular immunoglobulin G4 related sclerosing cholangitis, the management of dominant biliary strictures, and the role of ursodeoxycholic acid. In addition, the timing of liver transplantation in PSC remains difficult to predict with standard liver severity scores. In this review, we address these controversies and highlight the latest evidence base in the management of PSC.

Strawberry shape uniformity is a complex trait,influenced by multiple genetic and environmental *** complicate matters further,the phenotypic assessment of strawberry uniformity is confounded by the difficulty of quantifying geometric parameters‘by eye’and variation between *** in-depth genetic analysis of strawberry uniformity has not been undertaken to date,due to the lack of accurate and objective ***,uniformity remains one of the most important fruit quality selection criteria for the development of a new *** this study,a 3D-imaging approach was developed to characterise berry shape *** show that circularity of the maximum circumference had the closest predictive relationship with the manual uniformity *** five or six automated metrics provided the best predictive model,indicating that human assessment of uniformity is highly ***,visual assessment of strawberry fruit quality in a multi-parental QTL mapping population has allowed the identification of genetic components controlling uniformity.A“regular shape”QTL was identified and found to be associated with three uniformity *** QTL was present across a wide array of germplasm,indicating a potential candidate for marker-assisted breeding,while the potential to implement genomic selection is explored.A greater understanding of berry uniformity has been achieved through the study of the relative impact of automated metrics on human perceived ***,the comprehensive definition of strawberry shape uniformity using 3D imaging tools has allowed precision phenotyping,which has improved the accuracy of trait quantification and unlocked the ability to accurately select for uniform berries.

The ability to calm horses affects both the safety and well-being of human-horse relationships. However, not many natural calmatives are known, nor the efficacy of these in supporting a state of calmness in horses. This study used both qualitative and quantitative methods to test whether aromatherapy has a measurable and calming effect on equine facial expression and a range of physiological parameters. Nine horses of different ages, genders and breeds were included in a crossover design with humidified essential oils to determine the calming effect of vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides), spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi) and roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) in relation to water (negative control) and lavender oil (positive control) in horses standing still. The results revealed significantly lowered heart rate (P < 0.05 - <0.001) and respiratory tidal volume (P < 0.05 - <0.001) for the tested essential oils, while spikenard oil was best at inducing a relaxed facial expression (60% of the full-time scale for 8 horses;75% of the full-time scale for 7 horses) and roman chamomile oil was statistically most successful at reducing the incidence of spontaneous muscle contractures in M. Temporalis (P < 0.001) and M. Cleidomastoideus (P < 0.05) compared to the other aromatherapy treatments. It is concluded that aromatherapy has both qualitative and quantitative effects on physiological parameters in static horses, and moreover, that essential oils appear to have a calming effect.

Spatiotemporal continuity of surface water datasets widely known for its significance in the surface water dynamic monitoring and assessments,are faced with drawbacks like cloud influence,which hinders the direct extraction of data from time-series remote sensing *** study proposes a Time-series Surface Water Reconstruction method(TSWR).The initial stage of this method involves the effective use of remote sensing images to automatically construct multi-stage surface water boundaries based on Google Earth Engine(GEE).Then,we reconstructed regions the reconstruction of regions with missing water pixels using the distance relationship between the multi-stage water boundaries in previous and later *** applied to 10 large rivers around the world,this method yielded an overall accuracy of 98%for water extraction,an RMSE of 0.41 ***,time-series reconstruction tests conducted in 2020 on the Lancang and Danube rivers revealed a significant improvement in the image *** findings demonstrated that this method could not only be used to accurately reconstruct the surface water distribution missing water images,but also to depict a more pronounced time variation *** successful application of this method on GEE demonstrates its importance for use on large scales or in global studies.
