Across the diversity of vertebrates,bite force has been studied and suggested to have important ecological and evolutionary ***,there is a notable lineage of vertebrates that use this performance trait yet are missing from the bite-force literature:the *** often rely on biting during prey subjugation and *** snakes bite and hold prey while a constriction coil is formed or while venom is being delivered,or *** use biting exclusively without employing any additional prey-handling *** addition to biting,constriction is an important predation ***,I quantify bite force and constriction pressure in kingsnakes(Lampropeltis getula).Furthermore,I explore the proximate determinants of bite force as well as the relationship between biting and constriction *** force increased linearly with all head and body *** these,head height was the best predictor of bite *** force in kingsnakes was within the range of values reported for lizards,but their relative performance was lower for their head size compared to *** constriction pressure also increased with all body *** and constricting use 2 different parts of the musculoskeletal system and are positively and significantly correlated with one *** work targeting a greater diversity of snakes that rely more heavily on biting may reveal a greater range of bite performance in this diverse and successful vertebrate group.

The principle and technique were reported here to produce lignin-based sand stabilizing material （LSSM） using extracted lignin from black liquor of straw paper mills. Field tests using LSSM to stabilize and green sand dunes were started in 2002. The field experiment was carded out in August 2005 when the newly formed plant community was 3 years old. The results from the comprehensive field experiment demonstrated that unlike polyvinyl acetate or foamed asphalt commonly used for dune stabilization, LSSM was plant- friendly material and could be used in combination with seeding and planting of desert species. With the help of LSSM, the desert species （i.e., Agriophyllum squarrosum （L.） Moq. and Artemisia desertorum Spreng. etc.） could be used to form community in 2-3 yeas and to stabilize sand dune effectively. The newly formed community was sustainable under an extremely dry climate condition. The organic matter and total nitrogen in the soil increased significantly as the community were formed, while the change in P and K contents in the soil was negligible.

Castration-resistant prostate cancer is the lethal form of prostate cancer and most commonly remains dependent on androgen receptor(AR)*** therapies use AR signaling inhibitors(ARSI)exemplified by abiraterone acetate,a P450c17 inhibitor,and enzalutamide,a potent AR ***,drug resistance to these agents occurs within 12-18 months and they only prolong overall survival by 3-4 *** mechanisms can contribute to ARSI drug *** mechanisms can include but are not limited to germline mutations in the AR,post-transcriptional alterations in AR structure,and adaptive expression of genes involved in the intracrine biosynthesis and metabolism of androgens within the *** review focuses on intracrine androgen biosynthesis,how this can contribute to ARSI drug resistance,and therapeutic strategies that can be used to surmount these resistance mechanisms.
