The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that glutathione peroxidase, uric acid, and a number of hematological biomarkers do not vary in adult mares, over a 24-hour period. Seven adult (age 10 ± 6 yrs;weight 370 ± 30 kg) Arabian Purebred mares were used. Blood samples were collected every two hours, except during the period after-meals, when samples were collected every 30 minutes, totaling four samples in two hours. These samples were used to analyze glutathione peroxidase (GPx), uric acid (UA), glucose (GLU), total plasma protein (TPP), red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (HB), hematocrit (HT), red cell distribution width (RdW), white blood cells (WBC) and lymphocytes (LYM). The accumulation of anthocyanins is a well-known response to abiotic stresses in many plant ***,the effects of anthocyanin accumulation on light absorbance and photosynthesis are ***,we addressed this question using a promoter replacement line of tomato constitutively expressing a MYB transcription factor(ANTHOCYANIN1,ANT1)that leads to anthocyanin ***1-overexpressing plants displayed traits associated with shade avoidance response:thinner leaves,lower seed germination rate,suppressed side branching,increased chlorophyll concentration,and lower photosynthesis rates than the wild ***-rich leaves exhibited higher absorbance of light in the blue and red ends of the spectrum,while higher anthocyanin content in leaves provided photoprotection to high *** of gene expression and primary metabolites content showed that anthocyanin accumulation produces a reconfiguration of transcriptional and metabolic networks that is consistent with,but not identical to those described for the shade avoidance *** results provide novel insights about howanthocyanins accumulation affects the trade-off between photoprotection and growth.

The structure of pure liquid tetrahydrofuran (THF) has been investigated via Monte Carlo simulations in the wake of a previous Empirical Potential Structure Refinement (EPSR) study on that liquid (Bowron, d.T.;Finney, J.L.;Soper, A.K. (2006) J. Am. Chem. Soc., 128, 5119). The molecules are allatoms rigid structures and the intermolecular potential used is described for the classical 6-12 Lennard-Jones plus Coulomb in the NPT ensemble at 1 atm and 25°C. THF is a poorly structured liquid. Typical preferred orientation of molecules has been explored and calculations shown different types of molecular pairs exist concurrently in the liquid. The geometry of those pairs was deeply investigated and its influence in the liquid structure discussed. The lack of molecular organization in the liquid is closely related to the existence of that diversity of molecular pairs. Its geometry changes from antiparallel up to T-like depending on the distance between the molecules in the pairs.

Studies regarding the influence of emergent vegetation on sediment transport are scarce and have mainly focused on flume *** fill this gap and also meet the international need,we aimed to evaluate the influence of emergent vegetation(Echinodorus macrophyllus) on sediment transport of Capibaribe River,*** and suspended sediment measurements were carried out using the US BLH 84 and US dH 48 samplers,*** of stem diameter,stem spacing and plant density were performed in conjunction with flow and sediment field *** on our results,0.45 m swas the threshold of mean flow velocity supported by *** under field *** value can be helpful for other rivers with gravel-bed river to armoured layer ratio(AR=d)/d=12.50)-natural conditions observed in Capibaribe River-or where the vegetation can provide positive effects,such as increase the bed stability,assist water restoration/rehabilitation and decrease water *** results can hopefully be used in engineering practice and ecosystem *** general,both the drag coefficient and drag force varied inversely and directly with the mean flow velocity and vegetation density,*** vegetation resistance force was inversely proportional to the bedload transport owing to the resistance caused by emergent *** finding was supported by the clear decoupling between nonvegetated and emergent vegetated conditions indicated by cluster *** study results provided a reasonable understanding of the interaction between emergent vegetation,water flow and sediment transport in the Capibaribe River.

Objective: To report atypical morphological features of Trichophyton(T.) tonsurans strains associated with tinea capitis. Methods: Eighty-two T. tonsurans strains isolated in Ceará, Brazil, were analyzed regarding macro and micromorphological features and nutritional patterns. Results: Fifty-two samples presented abundant chlamydoconidia, which were produced in chains. Macroscopically, these strains developed small glabrous colonies that were firmly attached to the surface of the culture medium, with few or no aerial mycelia and intense rusty yellow pigmentation. Seven strains did not grow with stimulus from thiamine. Samples were heterogeneous regarding urease production and none presented in vitro hair perforation. Conclusions: The observation of T. tonsurans strains with distinct phenotypic features indicates the need to revise the taxonomic criteria for routine identification of this dermatophyte.

Our objectives were to measure glutamine (Gln) and glutamate (Glu) concentrations in the milk and blood of lactating Holstein cows, as well as milk composition and somatic cell count (SCC) throughout different stages of lactation. Samples were collected from 21 cows in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th months of lactation. It analyzed Gln and Glu in the blood and Gln, Glu, lactose, fat, protein and somatic cells in the milk. Also, it measured Gln and Glu in blood from these dairy cows’ calves. Results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, T-test and Tukey’s test, with a 5% significance level. There was a difference in blood [Gln] in from dairy cows (P nd (~0.181 μmol/mL) and 5th (~0.190 μmol/mL) months of lactation and the highest at 10th month (~0.276 μmol/mL). Also there was a higher protein content in the 5th and 10th months of lactation (~3.61% each) when compared to the other months (P difference in calves’ parameters and in all others parameters from dairy cows. We concluded that the lactation period produced a significant interference in blood [Gln] but not in milk [Gln] which may indicate increase in utilization or decrease in production of this amino acids during lactation in these cows under tropical conditions.

Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and ecological and social aspects.

Changes in Soil Carbon Stocks under Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forest System in the Brazilian Amazon Region

Several studies indicate that the use of integrated production systems, such as integrated crop-livestock-forest systems (ICLF), improves the quality of the soil and consequently the sequestration of organic carbon in the soil. In this way, this work aims to evaluate the carbon stocks in soil under different management systems in the Cerrado/Amazonia transition zone, namely: ICLF, no-tillage, pasture and eucalyptus plantation. For this, two soil samplings were done in 2011 and 2014, in the 0 - 5, 5 - 10 and 10 - 30 cm layers. Soil carbon and nitrogen stocks were analyzed. ICLF system was the treatment that obtained the highest percentage of carbon gain (7.8%) after three years of establishment which represents to an increase of 5.5 Mg·ha-1. Management systems, such as ICLF, with minimal soil disturbance combined with crop rotations that contribute to the quantity and quality of residues input, increase soil organic matter content. Carbon stock data show the potential of ICLF systems to increase soil carbon stocks.
