BACKGROUND Hemiarthroplasty is the most common treatment in elderly patients with displaced intra-capsular femoral neck fracture(FNF).prosthetic joint infection(pJI)is one of the most feared and frequent complications post-surgery because of the frail health status of these patients and the need for fast track ***,priorities should lie in effective preventive strategies to mitigate this *** To determine how much the implementation of the routine use of antibioticloaded bone cement(ALBC)as a relatively easy-to-apply amendment to the surgical practice reduces the infection rate in our hemiarthroplasty *** We retrospectively assessed all demographic,health status and treatment-related data of our FNF patients undergoing cemented hemiarthroplasty in the period from 2011 to 2017;241 patients were further analyzed after exclusion of patients with cancer-related sequelae and those who died before the end of the 1-year observation *** pJI rate as diagnosed on basis of the Musculoskeletal Infection society(MsIs)criteria 2011 was determined for each included patient and compared in function of the bone cement used for hip stem *** were split into a group receiving a plain bone cement in the period from January 2011 to June 2013(non-ALBC group)and into a group receiving an ALBC in the period July 2013 to December 2017(ALBC group).Data analysis was performed with statistical *** further calculated the cost-efficacy of the implementation of routine use of ALBC in the second group balancing the inhospital infection related treatment costs with the extra costs of use of *** In total 241 FNF patients who received cemented hemiarthroplasty in the period from January 2011 to January 2017 were eligible for inclusion in this retrospective *** were 8 pJI cases identified in the ALBC group among n=94 patients,whereas 28 pJI cases were observed in the non-ALBC group among n=147 *** statistical analysis

Robust Disturbance Rejection Based Control with Extended-state Resonant Observer for sway Reduction in Uncertain Tower-cranes

In this paper, the problem of load transportation and robust mitigation of payload oscillations in uncertain tower-cranes is addressed. This problem is tackled through a control scheme based on the philosophy of active-disturbance-rejection. Here, a general disturbance model built with two dominant components: polynomial and harmonic, is stated. Then, a disturbance observer is formulated through state-vector augmentation of the tower-crane model. Thus, better performance of estimations for system states and disturbances is achieved. The control law is then formulated to actively reject the disturbances but also to accommodate the closed-loop system dynamics even under system uncertainty. The proposed control schema is validated via experimentation using a small-scale tower-crane,and compared with other relevant active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)-based techniques. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme is robust under parametric uncertainty of the system, and provides improved attenuation of payload oscillations even under system uncertainty.

The Difficult path from perception to precautionary Action-participatory Modeling as a practical Tool to Overcome the Risk perception paradox in Flood preparedness

The risk perception paradox illustrates the perception of natural hazards as not directly related to a willingness to act or engage in precautionary behavior. Yet the utilization of participatory processes can help to overcome this gap. In a practical example in the watershed of the Danube River and its contributing streams in Germany,we aimed to solve questions about the value of participatory modeling as a method to bridge the gap linked to flood polder planning and a relocation of a dike for protection against high floods(centennial floods and rarer). Local communities, citizen initiatives, and nongovernmental environmental organizations joined together for round table discussions initiated by the water management authorities. A participatory modeling process enabled these diverse stakeholders to engage with the experts who built the groundwater models for the planning process. As part of this study, two case studies are presented. In the first example, neutral mediators assisted the round table ‘‘Flood polder Katzau(Danube)'' in order to cultivate mutual trust and understanding between the authorities and the former opponents of the project. This process is still ongoing,challenged by long-term planning and the more immediate obstacle of current political changes. The second case studyis located on the river Alz, a tributary of the river Inn,which flows into the Danube, where the relocation of a dike was planned. This article demonstrates how participatory modeling contributes to bridging the gap between a local resident's risk perception and real action in the case of flood preparedness.

The mutagenic and carcinogenic effects of parathion-methyl were examined by bacterial reverse mutation assay and a long-term experiment with wistar rats. The potential mutagenic effect of parathion-methyl in salmonella typhimurium TA100 bacterial cells was observed without rat liver s9 metabolic activation. parathion-methyl was further investigated for pathological changes in rat pancreas and liver. The long-term rat experiments showed that parathion-methyl exposure for 3 months can cause pathological changes in rat pancreases acinar cells and pancreatic hepatocytes. Atypical acinar cell focuses （AACF） were determined in the liver and pancreas of the rats. The results from short-term Ames test and long-term rat experiments suggested that parathion-methyl would be potential carcinogenic.

social media is commonly used by governments to disseminate information related to transparency and institutional promotion,but its potential for the dissemination of cultural resources is often *** research proposes a strategy for adopting social media to achieve cultural dissemination in the municipality of Lamas,peru,which has tourism potential and has been awarded the“Best Tourism Villages”seal of the World Tourism ***,we propose a case study at a propositional exploratory *** start by determining the current state of dissemination of tangible and intangible resources,as well as the practical use of social media,through a survey of 20 *** results reveal that crafts are the most widely disseminated tangible resource in the municipality(according to 55%of officials),and intangible resources are occasionally disseminated(50%).We also find that Facebook is the only digital channel used to disseminate cultural *** this context,we formulate a strategy for adopting social media to improve cultural dissemination,which consists of six phases:(i)forming a work team,(ii)preparing a budget plan,(iii)strengthening capacities,(iv)taking inventory of cultural resources,(v)coordinating community interests and(vi)preparing a cultural dissemination *** findings can contribute to formulating public initiatives for the institutionalisation of social media in governments for the purposes of preserving,promoting and guaranteeing the accessibility of cultural heritage.

Molecular dynamics simulations of initial pd and pdO nanocluster growth in a magnetron gas aggregation source

Molecular dynamics simulations are carried out for describing growth of pd and pdO nanoclusters using the ReaxFF force field. The resulting nanocluster structures are successfully compared to those of nanoclusters experimentally grown in a gas aggregation source. The pdO structure is quasi-crystalline as revealed by high resolution transmission microscope analysis for experimental pdO nanoclusters. The role of the nanocluster temperature in the molecular dynamics simulated growth is highlighted.

Green and sustainable software has emerged as a new and highly active area in the software *** several years of research and work,we believe that it is now necessary to obtain a general snapshot of how the research in this area is *** do so,we have applied the 5 Ws(why,when,who,where,and what),a formula for getting the complete story on a *** have therefore carried out a study,using 542 publications related to Green and sustainable software research;these were recovered using *** results obtained allow us to conclude that it is important to identify key elements of the research to allow researchers be fully aware of the state of the research on Green and sustainable software(why);the study uses papers published between 2000 and the beginning of November 2018(when);the most prolific authors are mainly from Europe,although the UsA is the most active country,Green and sustainable software being a very interactive area with a good number of multinational publications(who);the top five keywords related to sustainable aspects are Green software,Green IT,software sustainability,Energy Consumption,and Energy Efficiency(what);finally,as regards the places authors prefer to publish in,there is almost a complete balance between conferences and journals,with a trend towards an increase in the number of publications(where).

Impact of a colorectal cancer screening program implantation on delays and prognosis of non-screening detected colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND The implementation of a colorectal cancer(CRC)screening programme may increase the awareness of primary Care physicians,reduce the diagnostic delay in CRC detected outside the scope of the screening programme and thus improve *** To determine the effect of implementation of a CRC screening programme on diagnostic delays and prognosis of CRC detected outside the scope of a screening *** We performed a retrospective intervention study with a pre-post *** identified 322 patients with incident and confirmed CRC in the pre-implantation cohort(June 2014–May 2015)and 285 in the post-implantation cohort(June 2017-May 2018)in the Cancer Registry detected outside the scope of a CRC screening *** each patient we calculated the different healthcare diagnostics delays:global,primary and secondary healthcare,referral and colonoscopyrelated *** addition,we collected the initial healthcare that evaluated the patient,the home location(urban/rural),and the CRC stage at *** determined the two-year survival and we performed a multivariate proportional hazard regression analysis to determine the variables associated with *** We did not detect any differences in the patient or CRC baseline-related variables.A total of 20.1%of patients was detected with metastatic *** was a significant increase in direct referral to colonoscopy from primary healthcare(25.5%,35.8%;p=0.04)in the post-implantation *** delay was reduced by 24 d(106.64±148.84 days,82.84±109.31 d;p=0.02)due to the reduction in secondary healthcare delay(46.01±111.65 d;29.20±60.83 d;p=0.02).However,we did not find any differences in CRC stage at diagnosis or in two-year survival(70.3%;p=0.9).Variables independently associated with twoyear risk of death were age(Hazard Ratio-HR:1.06,95%CI:1.04-1.07),CRC stage(II HR:2.17,95%CI:1.07-4.40;III HR:3.07,95%CI:1.56-6.08;IV HR:19.22,95%CI:9.86-37.44;unknown HR:9.24,95%CI:4.27-19.99),init
