Haplotype resolved chromosome level genome assembly of Citrus australis reveals disease resistance and other citrus specific genes

Recent advances in genome sequencing and assembly techniques have made it possible to achieve chromosome level reference genomes for *** few genomes have been anchored at the chromosome level and/or are haplotype phased,with the available genomes of varying accuracy and *** now report a phased high-quality chromosome level genome assembly for an Australian native citrus species;Citrus australis(round lime)using highly accurate PacBio HiFi long reads,complemented with Hi-C *** with Hi-C integrated assembly resulted in a 331 Mb genome of *** with two haplotypes of nine pseudochromosomes with an N50 of 36.3 Mb and 98.8% genome assembly completeness(BUSCO).Repeat analysis showed that more than 50% of the genome contained interspersed *** them,LTR elements were the predominant type(21.0%),of which LTR Gypsy(9.8%)and LTR copia(7.7%)elements were the most abundant repeats.A total of 29464 genes and 32009 transcripts were identified in the *** these,28222 CDS(25753 genes)had BLAST hits and 21401 CDS(75.8%)were annotated with at least one GO *** specific genes for antimicrobial peptides,defense,volatile compounds and acidity regulation were *** synteny analysis showed conserved regions between the two haplotypes with some structural variations in Chromosomes 2,4,7 and *** chromosome scale,and haplotype resolved *** genome will facilitate the study of important genes for citrus breeding and will also allow the enhanced definition of the evolutionary relationships between wild and domesticated citrus species.

An Interconnection between Elevated SCC Levels in Milk around the First Artificial Insemination and Pregnancy Rate in Dairy Cows

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the somatic cell count (SCC) levels measured at 28-test-day intervals or pregnancy rate at the first artificial insemination of Holstein Friesian cows. All necessary information was taken from test day and farm records. Levels of SCC in milk, 30 days before, and 30 days after the first artificial insemination (FAI) date were divided into 4 categories and their interconnection with pregnancy rate (PR) at FAI was evaluated by applying logistic models. A SCC threshold of 150.000 cells/ml of milk was used to differentiate uninfected udders and infected udders of Holstein Friesian cows. A level of SCC > 150.000 cells/ml in milk, and a level of SCC 150.000 cells/ml in milk before FAI as well as after FAI, was considered chronically infected udders or subclinical intramammary infections (IMI). Data from 792 FAIs from farm and test day records over a 4-year period (2019-2022) were evaluated. The outcome of this study revealed that the risk for low PR at the first AI was increased in cows with infected udders (OR = 1.33, CI 0.99 - 1.78), compared with uninfected udders. Increased levels of SCC after FAI had a negative effect on PR, while before FAI was not affected. To achieve a good PR, mastitis control measures must be fully adopted to a large extent around the first AI.

Goss texture or （110）[100] crystallographic orientation of the grains is typical grain structure of grain oriented silicon steel used for transformer. This type of texture is one of the most important parameters determining the magnetic properties of the laminated steel plates. The furination and growth of Goss texture in three steel samples are investigated. Two of them are prepared under laboratory conditions and one under industrial conditions. The em- phasis is put on the effects of hot lamination temperature and time, primary and secondary recrystallization temperatures during cold lamination on developing of the Goss texture in correlation with other texture components. Also in all steel processing stages, the influence of the chemical composition on the occurrence of Goss texture is examined.

This project studies marine terraces in western Messenia, southwestern Peloponnese, Greece, to propose a model of neotectonic configuration and paleogeographic evolution of western Messenia during the Quaternary. GIS analysis of topographic data and geological mapping revealed flanks of raised terraces created on Quaternary marine deposits. Luminescence ages of sediments from the three westernmost marine terraces tend to be consistent OIS-5, OIS-7 and OIS-9, respectively, thus agreeing with the three latest warm stages of the Pleistocene. Moreover, the type and the extent of deformation of the dated marine terraces allowed us to reflect on the neotectonic configuration of western Messenia as well as to conclude that progressive differential uplift over the last 300 ka has induced a dome-like structure to the upper crust of western Messenia.

This work continued our general research program on obtaining metallic cerium by electrodeposition from NaCeF4 dis-solved in different molten fluorides. The structure of NaCeF4 （cubic or hexagonal depending on the way of preparation） was estab-lished by DTA analysis, IR spectra and X-ray diffraction. The heat capacity （Cp） of NaCeF4 was measured by differential scanning calorimetry in the temperature range of 300-1093 K using the“step-method”. The Cp was fitted by an equation with a satisfactory re-sult. Heat capacity was compared with that calculated from the Neumann-Kopp rule （NKR） and the deviations observed were consis-tent with the stability of the NaCeF4 compound.

Colostrum Supplementation as an Aid for Improving Health and Growth Performance of Preweaned Holstein Dairy Calves

The adjective of this study was to determine the effect of partial replacement of whole milk with second- and third-milking colostrum on the health status and growth performance of preweaned Holstein dairy calves. A minimum of 110 calves of 2 - 3 days old Holstein Friesian calves were enrolled and randomly allocated to two treatment groups 1) CS—colostrum supplement group and 2) UC—unsupplemented control group. The CS group of calves received pooled second and third milking colostrum with Brix reading between 19 and 24% (mean 21.8% ± 1.75%) as colostrum supplement (one liter mixed with 3 L of whole milk), and UC group of calves received 4 L of whole milk in each of the 2 daily meals for 14 days. Serum IgG levels were determined to evaluate passive transfer of immunity. Milk and grain consumption was recorded for 28 days by research personnel. All calves were weighted at entry of the trial, at 28 days and at weaning (65 days). Calves receiving supplemental colostrum had less diarrhea and respiratory disease than control calves. Also, the results indicated that health problems were associated with low serum IgG levels and low-weight calves. Grain consumption and average daily gain (ADG) over 28 days of life were greater in CS group of calves compared with UC group of calves. Colostrum supplementation during the first 14 days of life in calves was effective in reading diarrheal and bovine respiratory diseases and in the use of antimicrobials. Further studies are needed to identify the molecular mechanisms involved in beneficial effects of colostrum supplementation on calf growth and health.
