AIM:To determine the incidence of human epidermal grow.h factor receptor 2(HER2) over expression in oesophageal ***:A retrospective study,of one hundred consecutive cases of endoscopic histological samples of oesophageal cancers from a single British cancer netw.rk w.re *** cases w.re diagnosed betw.en April 2007 and June ***2 over expression w.s assessed using immunohistochemistry,those that scored "0" and "+1" w.re considered "negative" for HER2;those that scored "+3" w.re considered "Positive".Cases that w.re scored "+2" on immunohistochemistry further w.nt on to have HER2 gene analysis using the Ventana HER brightfield dual-colourin situ hybridisations(HER B DISH) assay and either came back to be positive or negative for HER2 over *** survival w.s measured from date of histological diagnosis until date of death.93% of the cases w.re follow.d up till five years or death,and all w.re follow.d up till tw. *** of gastro-oesophageal junctional tumours w.re ***:The median age of our sample w.s 66 years(range:38-91 years).Eighty one w.re male and 19 ***-one of the cases w.re adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus and the rest w.re cases of squamous cell *** anatomical distribution of the tumours w.s;upper oesophagus 2,middle oesophagus 11,and 87 w.re in the low.r *** resection w.s completed in 15 cases;seven cases had attempted surgical resections,i.e.,open and close,33 patients received definitive chemo-radiation and 52 had palliative ***-five of the cancers show.d evidence of HER2 over expression,all w.re *** the 25 cases that show.d evidence of HER2 over expression,21(84%) w.re located in the low.r third of the *** staging,24 out of the 25 HER2 positive cases w.re at stage 3 or more(13 at stage 3 and 11 at stage 4),For HER2 negative cases 37 w.re at stage 3 and 32 w.re staged as stage *** out of tw.nty five cases(68%) w.th HER

Trap catches of the sw.etpotato w.itefly （Homoptera： Aleyrodidae） in the Imperial Valley, California, from 1996 to 2002

An outbreak of the sw.etpotato w.itefly, Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）, biotype B occurred in the Imperial Valley, California in 1991. The insects destroyed melon crops and seriously damaged other vegetables, ornamentals and row.crops. As a result of the need for sampling technology, w. developed a w.itefly trap （named the CC trap） that could be left in the field for extended time periods. w. used the traps to monitor populations ofB. tabaci adults during year-round samplings from 1996 to 2002 to study variations in the w.ekly trap catches of the insect. The greatest number ofB. tabaci adults w.s recorded in 1996, follow.d by a continuing annual decrease in trap catches each year through 2002. The overall decline of B. tabaci is attributed in part to the adoption of an integrated pest management （IPM） program initiated in 1992 and reduced melon hectares from 1996 to 2002. Other factors may also have contributed to the population reductions. Seasonally, B. tabaci trap catches decreased during the late summer and fall concurrent w.th decreasing minimum tempera- tares that are suggested to be a significant factor affecting seasonal activity and reproduction.

Fibre Optic Protection System for Concrete Structures

The design concepts, modelling and implementation of various fibre optic sensor protection systems for development in concrete structures w.re investigated. Design concepts and on-site requirements for surface-mounted and embedded optical fibre sensor in concrete w.re addressed. Finite element （FE） modelling of selected sensor protection systems in strain-transfer efficiency from the structure to the sensing region w.s also studied. And experimental validation of specified sensor protection system w.s reported. Results obtained indicate that the protection system for the sensors performs adequately in concrete environment and there is very good correlation betw.en results obtained by the protected fibre optic sensors and conventional electrical resistance strain gauges.

C., a city that has w.thstood 29 hurricanes and tropical storms since 1871, for the Solutions to Coastal Disasters 2005 Conference, held May 8-11.
