DORMANCY-ASSOCIATED MADS-BOX(DAM)genes have recently emerged as key potential regulators of the dormancy cycle and climate adaptation in perennial ***,PpeDAM6 has been proposed to act as a major repressor of bud dormancy release and bud break in peach(Prunus persica).PpeDAM6 expression is downregulated concomitantly with the perception of a given genotype-dependent accumulation of winter chilling time,and the coincident enrichment in H3K27me3 chromatin modification at a specific genomic *** have identified three peach BASIC PENTACYSTEINE PROTEINs(PpeBPCs)interacting with two GA-repeat motifs present in this H3K27me3-enriched ***,PpeBPC1 represses PpeDAM6 promoter activity by transient expression *** the other hand,the heterologous overexpression of PpeDAM6 in European plum(Prunus domestica)alters plant vegetative growth,resulting in dwarf plants tending toward shoot meristem *** alterations in vegetative growth of transgenic lines associate with impaired hormone homeostasis due to the modulation of genes involved in jasmonic acid,cytokinin,abscisic acid,and gibberellin pathways,and the downregulation of shoot meristem factors,specifically in transgenic leaf and apical *** expression of many of these genes is also modified in flower buds of peach concomitantly with PpeDAM6 downregulation,which suggests a role of hormone homeostasis mechanisms in PpeDAM6-dependent maintenance of floral bud dormancy and growth repression.

Plant geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthases: every (gene) family has a story

Plant isoprenoids(also known as terpenes or terpenoids)are a wide family of primary and secondary metabolites with multiple *** particular,most photosynthesis-related isoprenoids(including carotenoids and chlorophylls)as well as diterpenes and polyterpenes derive from geranylgeranyl diphosphate(GGPP)produced by GGPP synthase(GGPPS)enzymes in several cell *** genomes typically harbor multiple copies of differentially expressed genes encoding GGPPS-like *** sequence comparisons allow to identify potential GGPPS candidates,experimental evidence is required to ascertain their enzymatic activity and biologi cal ***,functional analyses of the full set of potential GGPPS paralogs are only available for a handful of plant *** we review our current knowledge on the GGPPS families of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and the crop species rice(0ryza sativa),pepper(Capsicum annuum)and tomato(Solanum lycopersicum).The results indicate that a major determinant of the biological role of particular GGPPS paralogs is the expression profile of the corresponding genes even though specific interactions with other proteins(including GGPP-consuming enzymes)might also contribute to *** some species,however,a single GGPPS isoforms appears to be responsible for the production of most if not all GGPP required for cell *** the mechanisms regulating GGPPS activity in particular cell compartments,tissues,organs and plant species will be very useful for future metabolic engineering approaches aimed to manipulate the accumulation of particular GGPP-derived products of interest without negatively impacting the levels of other isoprenoids required to sustain essential cell functions.

In response to the challenges in providing real-time extraction of crop biophysical signatures,computer vision in computational crop phenotyping highlights the opportunities of computational intelligence *** and angular brightness due to the presence of photosynthetic light unevenly illuminate crop *** this study,a novel vegetation index named artificial bee colony-optimized visible band oblique dipyramid greenness index(vODGIabc)was proposed to enhance vegetation pixels by correcting the saturation and brightness levels,and the ratio of visible RGB reflectance ***-grade smartphone was used to acquire indoor and outdoor aquaponic lettuce images daily for full 6-week crop life *** introduced saturation rectification coeffi-cient(X),value rectification coefficient(m),green–red wavelength adjustment factor(a),and green–blue wavelength adjustment factor(b)on the original triangular greenness index resulted in 3D canopy reflectance spectrum with two oblique tetrahedrons formed by connecting the vertices of visible RGB band reflectance and maximum wavelength point map to corresponding saturation and value of lettuce-captured *** neighborhood component analysis(NCA),minimum redundancy maximum relevance(MRMR),Pearson’s correlation coefficient(PCC),and analysis of variance(ANOVA)weighted most of the canopy area,energy,and *** linear relationships were exhibited by using vODGIabc in estimating lettuce crop fresh weight,height,number of spanning leaves,leaf area index,and growth stage with R2 values of 0.9368 for InceptionV3,0.9574 for ResNet101,0.9612 for ResNet101,0.9999 for Gaussian processing regression,and accuracy of 88.89%for ResNet101,*** low-cost approach on developing greenness index for biophysical signatures estimation proved to be more accurate than the previously established triangular greenness index(TGI)using RGB smartphone camera.

Isoprenoids are a hugely diverse family of compounds derived from the C5 precursors isopentenyl diphosphate （IPP） and dimethylallyl diphosphate （DMAPP）. Although all free-living organisms synthesize isoprenoids, they are particularly abun- dant and diverse in plants, with tens of thousands structures known to date. The highest variety of plant isoprenoids are specialized （secondary） metabolites that participate in the interaction of plants with their environment. These include pigments, volatiles, and defense compounds, some of which have applications in industry and agriculture.

Structural effects on the magnetic hyperthermia properties of iron oxide nanoparticles

Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles(IONPs) are heavily explored as diagnostic and therapeutic agents due to their low cost, tunable properties, and biocompatibility. In particular, upon excitation with an alternating current(AC) magnetic field, the NPs generate localized heat that can be exploited for therapeutic hyperthermia treatment of diseased cells or pathogenic microbes. In this review, we focus on how structural changes and inter-particle interactions affect the heating efficiency of iron oxide-based magnetic NPs. Moreover, we present an overview of the different approaches to evaluate the heating performance of IONPs and introduce a new theranostic modality based on magnetic imaging guided–hyperthermia.

Nitrate is the primary water-soluble macronutrient essential for plant growth that is converted from excess fish feeds,fish effluents,and degrading biomaterials on the aquaponic pond floor,and when aquacultural malpractices occur,large amounts of it retain in the water system causing increase rate in eutrophication and toxifies fish and aquaculture *** nitrate sensor prototypes still require performing the additional steps of water sample deionization and dilution and were constructed with expensive *** response to the challenge of sensor enhancement and aquaponic water quality monitoring,this study developed sensitive,repeatable,and reproducible screen-printed graphite electrodes on polyvinyl chloride and parchment paper substrates with silver as electrode material and 60:40 graphite powder:nail polish formulated conductive ink for electrical traces,integrated with 9-gene genetic expression model as a function of peak anodic current and electrochemical test time for nitrate concentration prediction that is embedded into low-power Arduino ESP32 for in situ nitrate sensing in aquaponic pond *** SPE electrical traces were designed on the two types of *** electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray confirmed the electrode surface *** cyclic voltammetry using 10 to 100 mg/L KNO3 and water from three-depth regions of the actual pond established the electrochemical test time(10.5 s)and electrode potential(0.135 V)protocol necessary to produce peak current that corresponds to the strength of nitrate ions during *** findings from in situ testing revealed that the proposed sensors have strong linear predictions(R2=0.968 MSE=1.659 for nSPEv and R2=0.966 MSE=4.697 for nSPEp)in the range of 10 to 100 mg/L and best detection limit of 3.15μg/L,which are comparable to other sensors of more complex *** developed three-electrode electrochemical nitrate sensor confirms that it is reliable for bot

Water quality assessment is currently based on time-consuming and costly laboratory pro-cedures and numerous expensive physicochemical sensors *** response to the trend of device minimization and reduced outlays in sustainable aquaponic water monitoring,the integration of aquaphotomics and computational intelligence is presented in this *** study used the combination of temperature,pH,and electrical conductivity sensors in predicting crop growth primary macronutrient concentration(nitrate,phos-phate,and potassium(NPK)),thus,limiting the number of deployed sensors.A total of 220 water samples collected from an outdoor artificial aquaponic pond were temperature perturbed from 16 to 36℃ with 2℃ increments to mimic ambient range,which varies water compositional *** was applied on ultraviolet,visible light,and near-infrared spectral regions,100 to 1000 nm,to determine NPK ***-pal component analysis emphasized nutrient dynamics through selecting the highly corre-lated water absorption bands resulting in 250 nm,840 nm,and 765 nm for nitrate,phosphate,and potassium *** activated water bands were used as wave-length protocols to spectrophotometrically measure macronutrient ***-iments have shown that multigene symbolic regression genetic programming(MSRGP)obtained the optimal performance in parameterizing and predicting nitrate,phosphate,and potassium concentrations based on water physical properties with an accuracy of 87.63%,88.73%,and 99.91%,*** results have shown the established 4-dimensional nutrient dynamics map reveals that temperature significantly strengthens nitrate and potassium above 30℃ and phosphate below 25℃ with pH and electrical con-ductivity ranging between 7 and 8 and 0.1 to 0.2 mS cm^(-1) *** novel approach of developing a physicochemical estimation model predicted macronutrient concentra-tions in real-time using physical limnological sensors with a

The generation of functional retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） is of great therapeutic interest to the field of regenerative medicine and may provide possible cures for retinal degenerative diseases, including age-related macular degeneration （AMD）. Although RPE cells can be produced from either embryonic stem cells or induced pluripotent stem cells, direct cell reprogramming driven by lineage-determining transcription factors provides an immediate route to their generation. By monitoring a human RPE specific Bestl：：GFP reporter, we report the conversion of human fibroblasts into RPE lineage using defined sets of transcription factors. We found that Bestl：：GFP positive cells formed colonies and exhibited morphological and molecular features of early stage RPE cells. Moreover, they were able to obtain pigmen- tation upon activation of Retinoic acid （RA） and Sonic Hedgehog （SHH） signaling pathways. Our study not only established an ideal platform to investigate the tran- scriptional network regulating the RPE cell fate deter- mination, but also provided an alternative strategy to generate functional RPE cells that complement the useof pluripotent stem cells for disease modeling, drug screening, and cell therapy of retinal degeneration.

The Body in Old Age and Dependency： A Territory of Threat and Uncertainty

This paper explores the image of the body in physically dependent elderly men and women and the way in which this image reconfigures their identity creating new meanings. In old age, the body becomes related with illness, with disablement and with its own material finiteness. Representations of the body are thus constructed around pain, deficiency, and fragility. The research was carried out from a qualitative perspective, performing in-depth interviews, with participant observation and a subject ID card as data collecting techniques. The identity of the interviewees who consented to be recorded was protected. The data were analyzed constructing concepts and theoretical and empirical categories with the support of the Etnograph V.5 software for qualitative data. The findings reflect discourses on the body that turn on its deterioration and limitations that prevent old people from functioning adequately in life. Metaphors were identified telling of a sense of＂deteriorated identity＂; most participants saw themselves as ＂a burden＂. They also showed symptoms of annoyance and shame regarding their sick or fragile bodies, as well as a constant memory of the healthy or ＂ideal＂ body of the past, which is hegemonic in our culture.
