Coating independent cytotoxicity of citrate-and PEG-coated silver nanoparticles on a human hepatoma cell line

The antibacterial potential of silver nanoparticles（AgNPs） resulted in their increasing incorporation into consumer,industrial and biomedical ***,human and environmental exposure to AgNPs（either as an engineered product or a contaminant）supports the emergent research on the features conferring them different toxicity *** this study,30 ran AgNPs coated with citrate or poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG） were used to assess the influence of coating on the effects produced on a human hepatoma cell line（HepG2）,namely in terms of viability,apoptosis,apoptotic related genes,cell cycle and cyclins gene *** types of coated AgNPs decreased cell proliferation and viability with a similar toxicity *** the concentrations used（11 and 5 μg/mL corresponding to IC50 and-IC10 levels,respectively） the amount of cells undergoing apoptosis was not significant and the apoptotic related genes BCL2（anti-apoptotic gene）and BAX（pro-apoptotic gene） were both ***,both AgNPs affected HepG2 cell cycle progression at the higher concentration（11 μg/mL） by increasing the percentage of cells in S（synthesis phase） and G2（Gap 2 phase） *** the cell-cycle related genes,the expression of cyclin B1 and cyclin E1 genes were ***,this work has shown that citrate- and PEG-coated AgNPs impact on HepG2 apoptotic gene expression,cell cycle dynamics and cyclin regulation in a similar *** research is needed to determine the properties that confer AgNPs at lower toxicity,since their use has proved helpful in several industrial and biomedical contexts.

Harmonia axyridis Pallas(Coleoptera:Coccinellidae):Biological aspects and thermal requirements

The aim of this study was to determine the biological aspects and thermal requirements of Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) fed daily with Anagasta kuehniella (Zeller) (Lep-idoptera: Pyralidae) eggs. Under laboratory conditions, the experiment was carried out in acclimatized chambers set to 18°C, 21°C, 24°C, 27°C, and 30°C. Larvae of H. axyridis were separated, kept in a glass tube, and fed with A. kuehniella eggs. The Asiatic lady beetle adults were separated into 20 couples and kept in plastic cups receiving the same food as the larvae. The length of the larval, pupal, and total biological cycle (from egg to adult) stages declined significantly from 18°C to 27°C, but was stable between 27°C and 30°C. Survival was similar for larvae from the first to the fourth stadium when kept at 18°C, 21°C, and 24°C with a higher total biological cycle survival at 27°C. H. axyridis males presented higher longevity at 18°C and 21°C in comparison to females that had a longer life and a higher fecundity at 24°C and 27°C, respectively. The lower thermal limit for biological cycle development was 12.4°C, and the thermal constant was 243.9 degree-days.

Social Support Provided to Women Undergoing Breast Cancer Treatment:A Study Review

Breast cancer treatment may have implications for women’s quality of life and social support, which refers to mechanisms through which interpersonal relationships protect people from the detrimental effects of stress. This study’s objective was to analyze evidence available in the literature concerning social support provided to women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. The Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), PubMed, Web of Science, Psycinfo and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were used to select the studies. The papers were pre-selected after reading titles and abstracts and ten papers were ultimately selected after fully reading the texts. The studies were summarized, while their methodological designs and results were noted. The analysis of the studies shows that social support can be provided to women with breast cancer, such as emotional, instrumental and informational support. It is apparent that emotional and instrumental support is provided in the first phase of the treatment. The main sources of support include the spouses, family members and friends. Spouses provide emotional support, but mainly provide instrumental support, while family members and friends are the most important source of emotional support. The conclusion is that emotional support greatly contributes to the health-disease continuum, favoring treatment adherence and creating opportunities for women to express their feelings, positively influencing the treatment.

Lymphedema in the Mastectomy Postoperative Period:An Integrative Literature Review

Aims and Objectives: To analyze the evidence available in the literature on the stages during which upper limb lymphedema after mastectomy occurs. Background: Among the adverse effects of breast cancer treatment, lymphedema is the most prevalent. Design: Integrative literature review. Methods: The Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde—LILACS), PubMed, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were used to select the pertinent studies. The identification data for these studies were summarized, and their methodological features and results were extracted. Results: Regarding the time elapsed since surgery, the highest prevalence of lymphedema corresponded to the late postoperative period, and regarding its severity, mild lymphedema was the most prevalent form. The prevalence was also the highest among the women who were subjected to radical mastectomy and radiotherapy. Conclusions: Many women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer use strategies for the prevention and control of lymphedema of the upper limb following mastectomy. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The findings of the present study might inform future studies aiming to assess strategies that can be started in the immediate and late postoperative stages to detect lymphedema early and prevent the increase of its prevalence during the late postoperative period after mastectomy.

Construction and Validation of an Educational Technology for Mammary Health Promotion

Mammary health is issue faced by public health nurses and the science follows new ways into this thematic area of learning course wares. The purpose of this study was to construct and to validate a distance course for mammary health promotion for nurses. Methodological proposal has been composed of five stages: 1) analysis and planning, 2) modeling, 3) implementation, 4) evaluation and maintenance and 5) distribution. A total of nine experts as research population were consulted who were expert judges of nursing, pedagogy and web designer, three of each specific area, which were included in the study. The variables that had concordance index of 50% were: graphic designer pages favors learning, the user has easy navigation, the learning of the student experience, the environment provides interdisciplinary, content is built on process rather than there is a unique sequence, allows access to the available environment and holds a discussion on the subject. The distance learning course is intended to broaden and to enrich the living spaces and construct their own knowledge, favors interactivity, communication, autonomy and cooperation between the participants and provides access to educational technologies.

Management Accounting Practices in the Portuguese Lodging Industry

This paper aims to characterize management accounting techniques at the Portuguese lodging industry, identifying the techniques adopted and the determinants of adopting them and their adequacy for the decision-making process. It is also a purpose to understand the extent to which the industry adopts the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI). The sample includes 35 hotels, which were analyzed in the years 2009 and 2010. Evidence is found supporting the fact management accounting is a tool incorporated in the daily management practices of hotels and useful to support the decision-making process. The proportion used of traditional management accounting techniques is higher than the proportion of use of contemporary ones. The adoption of these techniques is influenced by the fact of the hotels being subsidiaries of a multinational hotel chain, as well as by their annual turnover. In Portugal, there is a weak use of USALI. It is more used in the large hotels and in hotels with a foreign control. Management accounting supports hotels to improve their performance, thus becoming relevant to analyze management accounting practices used by them, particularly which instruments and techniques. In this context, this study, the first of its kind in Portugal, is justified with the increasing need for accurate and actual information of the accounting practices of the hotels operating in Portugal.

Clostridioides difficile(***)is the most common pathogen causing health care-associated *** TcdA and TcdB have been shown to activate enteric neurons;however,what population of these cells is more profoundly influenced and the mechanism underlying these effects remain *** To characterize a specific population of TcdA-affected myenteric neurons and investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor in TcdA-induced ileal inflammation,cell death,and the changes in the enteric nervous system in *** Swiss mice were used to model TcdA-induced ileitis in ileal loops exposed to TcdA(50μg/Loop)for 4 *** investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor,Brilliant Blue G(50 mg/kg,i.p.),which is a nonspecific P2X7 receptor antagonist,or A438079(0.7μg/mouse,i.p.),which is a competitive P2X7 receptor antagonist,were injected one hour prior to TcdA *** samples were collected to analyze the expression of the P2X7 receptor(by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry),the population of myenteric enteric neurons(immunofluorescence),histological damage,intestinal inflammation,cell death(terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferasemediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling),neuronal loss,and S100B synthesis(immunohistochemistry).RESULTS TcdA upregulated(P<0.05)the expression of the P2X7 receptor gene in the ileal tissues,increasing the level of this receptor in myenteric neurons compared to that in control *** with the control mice indicated that TcdA promoted(P<0.05)the loss of myenteric calretinin+(Calr)and choline acetyltransferase+neurons and increased the number of nitrergic+and Calr+neurons expressing the P2X7 *** of the P2X7 receptor decreased TcdAinduced intestinal damage,cytokine release[interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,IL-8,and tumor necrosis factor-α],cell death,enteric neuron loss,and S100B synthesis in the mouse *** Our findings demonstrated that TcdA induced the upregulation of the P

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)is defined as a public health problem by the World Health Organization(WHO)and since then has defined targets through the HCV *** HCV cascade of care highlights the progress towards these goals and essential interventions that need to be delivered along this continuum *** To document the treatment cascade for patients with HCV infection at the Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição(HNSC),defining the percentage of antibody-positive patients who collected molecular biology tests(polymerase chain reaction),attended outpatient clinic assistance,underwent treatment,and achieved a virologic cure termed sustained virologic response(SVR).METHODS With the retrospective cohort design,patients diagnosed with HCV infection in the period between January 1,2015 and December 31,2020 were *** from HCV notification forms,electronic medical records,Computerized Laboratory Environment Manager System,and Medicine Administration System(evaluation of special medications)were collected in 2022 and all information up to that period was *** data were analyzed with IBM SPSS version 25,and Poisson regression with robust simple variance was performed for analysis of variables in relation to each step of the *** with P<0.20 were included in the multivariate analysis with P<0.05 considered ***’s chi-square test was applied to compare the groups of patients who persisted in follow-up at the HNSC and who underwent follow-up at other *** Results were lower than expected by the WHO with only 49%of candidates receiving HCV treatment and only 29%achieving SVR,despite the 98%response rate to direct acting antivirals documented by follow-up *** city of origin and the place of follow-up were the variables associated with SVR and all other *** comparing the cascade of patients who remained assisted by the HNSC vs external patients,we observed superior data for HNSC patien

Different Approaches on the Investigation of Ground Water

In this paper we discuss ways to obtain information about the quality of ground water and their availability. We classify the different approaches in two categories: geophysical methods, e. g., electroresistivity sounding, seismic survey, gravimetry, MT (magnetotelluric) method, and geochemical methods. The former ones are able to provide information on the geological structure, meaning depth, range, amount of water and possible connections among different exploration areas or regions at risk due to contamination. On the other hand, the last ones provide information about the quality of water and the possible of use for agriculture, industry or human consumption. As a case study we aim at the Guarani Aquifer, more specifically at its recharge zone on the southern rim.

Paraconsistent Algorithm Extractor of Contradiction Effects―ParaExtr_(ctr)

Nowadays networks of analyses based in non-classic logics are used with success in the treatment of uncertainties. The characteristic of accepting the contradiction in his structure is the main cause of the methodologies based in Paraconsistent Logic is ideals for applications in systems of analyses and decision making. In this work we presented an algorithm based in Paraconsistent logic capable to extract in a gradual way the effects of the contradiction in originated signals of information of uncertain knowledge database. The Algorithm Paraconsistent Extractor of Contradiction effects - Paraextrctrctr is formed with base in fundamental concepts of the Paraconsistent Annotated Logic with annotation of two values (PAL2v) it can be applied in filters of networks of analyses of signal information where uncertain and contradictory signals can be present. The process of extraction of the effect of the contradiction is always begun by the largest inconsistency degree among two signals that belong to the group that is in analysis. In the end of the analysis it is found a consensus value. In this work we presented numeric example and one example of application of the Paraextrctrctr in Load Profile Forecast used in support to decision of the operation in an Electric Power System, but his application potentiality is demonstrated in several fields of the Artificial Intelligence.
