Investigation of 'chazi'(damaged-enamels)on Chenghua doucai Porcelains

At the end of the 1950s,Sun Yingzhou considered that the 'chazi'(damaged colour)on Chenghua doucai imperial porcelain as a defect was originally produced in firing process during Chenghua period(1465―1487).Researchers in china have accepted his *** any fragment with the 'chazi' has never been found in several tons of Chenghua imperial sherds excavated from Ming imperial kiln site in *** china,few scholars have questioned the formation of 'chazi',and further investigated *** researchers at the Research Laboratory in the British Museum,employing unde-structive EDXRF,have analyzed the chemical composition of the 'chazi'(damaged colour)on a Chen-ghua doucai stem cup in the museum,and they have confirmed that the 'chazi'(damaged colour)was caused by the fire of the Jianfu palace in the Forbidden City in *** on their research,the authors studied the colour chemical principle of the 'chazi's' formation *** to the ceramic technology principle,scientific reasoning for the 'chazi' was carried *** the help of the history of Qing court,the brainteaser of the 'chazi' was totally uncovered,the misunderstanding for the 'chazi' has also been *** research also suggests that employing modern science and technology is a direction to study Chinese ancient ceramic further.

Hydroisomerization of n-heptane over bimetal-bearing H_3PW_(12)O_(40) catalysts supported on dealuminated USY zeolite

The bimetal-bearing (CePt or LaPt) 12-tungstophosphoric acid (H3PW12O40 (PW)) catalysts supported on dealuminated USY zeolite (DUSY) were prepared by impregnation and characterized by XRD, BET, IR, and H2-chemisorption. Their catalytic activities were tested in the hydroisomerization of n-heptane with a continuous atmospheric fixed-bed reactor. After the steam treatment combined with the acid leaching, as well as the supporting with PW and the bimetals, the DUSY support retains the Y zeolite porosity and the PW well keeps its Keggin structure in catalysts. The doping of Ce into the catalysts enhances the dispersion of Pt on the catalyst surface. The Pt-bearing PW catalysts doped with Ce or La, especially Ce, exhibit much higher catalytic activity and selectivity than the catalysts without dopants at lowered reaction temperatures. At the optimal reaction conditions, i.e., the reaction temperature of 250℃ and WHSV of 1.4 h1, the catalyst with a Pt loading of 0.4%, PW loading of 10% and a molar ratio of Ce to Pt of 15:1 shows a conversion of n-heptane of 70.3% with a high selectivity for isomerization products of 94.1%.

A novel compound (NH4)2Y(H2O)8[PMo10V2O40]·10H2O has been prepared in an aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and TG-DTG analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out on (NH4)2Y(H2O)8 [PMo10V2O40]·10H2O single crystal, which crystallizes in the monoclinic system of a space group P21/C with a=0.9871(3) nm,b=1.5424(5) nm,c=2.7924(9) nm,β=94.183(5)°and Z=2. In the compound, a two-dimensional network is constructed by the PMo10V2O405- anion and the Y(H2O)83+ cation building blocks via hydrogen bonding exhibiting the porous structure.

Electrochemical characteristics of amorphous MgTi_xNi(x = 0,0.1,and 0.2) hydrogen storage alloys

MgTixNi （x = 0, 0.1, and 0.2） alloys were successfully prepared by mechanical alloying （MA）, and the influence of milling time on the electrochemical characteristics of the electrodes was discussed. MgTixNi alloys after 90 h milling displayed the best electrochemical performance The X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the alloy ball-milled for 90 h was amorphous with a widened diffraction peak. The charge-discharge tests indicated that these alloys had good electrochemical activation properties, and the MgTi0.2Ni alloy electrode exhibited the best cycle performance. The initial discharge capacity of the MgTi0.2Ni alloy reached up to 401.1 mAh·g^-1, and the retention rate of capacity was 31.0% after 30 cycles, much higher than that of MgNi （17.3%）. The Tafel polarization curves revealed that Ti addition could enhance the anticorrosion performance of these alloys in alkali solution, which was responsible for the ameliorated cyclic stability of these alloy electrodes.

Self-assembly structure formation on patterned InP surfaces

Self-assembly of polystyrene spheres guided by patterned n-type InP substrates has been investigated. InP surfaces were patterned using a variety of methods including wet chemical etching,sputter coating,thermal evaporation,and photo lithography. The self-assembly of polystyrene spheres depended on the appearance of patterns and was affected by the deposition techniques (sputter coating and thermal evaporation) of Au micro-squares. SEM and AFM were used to characterize the surface morphologies.

Electrochemical synthesis of ammonia using a cell with a Nafion membrane and SmFe_(0.7)Cu_(0.3-x)Ni_xO_3(x=0―0.3) cathode at atmospheric pressure and lower temperature

Samaria-doped ceria Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ(SDC) and SmFe0.7Cu0.3-xNixO3 have been synthesized by the sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The electrochemical synthesis of ammonia was investigated at atmospheric pressure and low temperature,using the SFCN materials as the cathode,a Nafion membrane as the electrolyte,nickel-doped SDC(Ni-SDC) as the anode and silver-platinum paste as the current *** was synthesized from 25 to 100℃ when the SFCN materials were used as cathode,with SmFe0.7Cu0.1Ni0.2O3 giving the highest rates of ammonia *** maximum rate of evolution of ammonia was 1.13 × 10-8 mol·cm-2·s-1 at 80℃,and the current efficiency reached as high as 90.4%.

REE and Sr-Nd isotope characteristics of hydrothermal chimney at Jade area in the Okinawa Trough

Hydrothermal chimney is a product of hydrothermal activity on the seabed. Chimney samples dredged from Jade hydrothermal area in Izena depression of the Okinawa Trough, are characterized by relatively enriched light rare earth elements (LREE) and strongly positive Eu anomalies. 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd of these samples are exactly between those of seawater and of acidic pumice, averaged at 0.708928 and 0.512292, respectively. These characteristics imply that the main source of hydrothermal sulfide at Jade area is possibly the undersurface acidic rocks. The mineralizing mechanism can be summarized as follows: Large amount of mineralized material would be leached out and LREE-enriched hydrothermal solution would be subsequently produced as a result of thermo-chemical exchange reaction between acidic volcanic rocks and heated seawater that penetrated in advance from upper water mass. The spurting out from the seabed and quickly crystallizing in the seawater of hydrothermal solution are responsible for the formation of Cu-Zn sulfide and barite-amorphous SiO2 minerals that are characterized by enriched LREE and positively strong Eu anomalies.

Further study of sources of the imported cobalt-blue pigment used on Jingdezhen porcelain from late 13 to early 15 centuries

Based on the conclusion of modern scientific analysis: the cobalt-blue pigment applied on Jingdezhen official porcelain during Yuan Dynasty and prior to Xuande reign of Ming Dynasty (1271―1425) contains high iron and low manganese con- tents, and the cobalt during Xuande and after Xuande periods (after 1426) of Ming Dynasty contains high manganese and low iron contents, in combination with the traditional archaeological method, the related historical textual records were in- vestigated and analyzed, the imported cobalt employed on Jingdezhen official porcelain was studied comprehensively, systematically and logically. In fact, 'Su Ma Li Qing' (Samarra-blue) and 'Su Bo Ni Qing' (Sumatra-blue) are definitely different cobalt ores originated in different places, because of their very similar translitera- tions in Chinese, the confusion has appeared in ancient books for more than 400 years, which considered 'Su Ma Li Qing' and 'Su Bo Ni Qing' as the same co- balt-blue pigment. In this article the mistake was corrected, the possible producing places and the approximate eras of the two pigments imported to china and used at Jingdezhen were also suggested.

Sol-gel preparation and characterization of Li_(1.3)Al_(0.3)Ti_(1.7)(PO_4)_3 sintered with flux of LiBO_2

Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7（PO4）3 pellets sintered with different mole fractions of LiBO2 were prepared by sol-gel method. The structural identification, surface morphology, ionic conductivity, and activation energy of the pellets were studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results show that all the Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7（PO4）3 pellets sintered with different mole fractions of LiBO2 have similar X-ray diffraction patterns. The sintered pellet becomes denser and the boundary and comer of the particles become illegible with the increase of LiBO2. Among the Lil.3Al0.3Ti1.7（PO3）4 pellets sintered with different mole fractions of LiBO2, the one sintered with 1 mol% LiBO2 shows the highest ionic conductivity of 3.95×10^-4 ***^-1 and the lowest activation energy of 0.2469 eV.

Nano Au/TiO_2 hollow microsphere membranes for the improved sensitivity of detecting specific DNA sequences related to transgenes in transgenic plants

Gold nanoparticles (nano Au)/titanium dioxide (TiO2) hollow microsphere membranes were prepared on the carbon paste electrode (CPE) for enhancing the sensitivity of DNA hybridization detection. The immobilization of nano Au and TiO2 microsphere was investigated with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The hybridization events were monitored with EIS us-ing [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- as indicator. The sequence-specific DNA of the 35S promoter from cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV35S) gene was detected with this DNA electrochemical sensor. The dynamic detection range was from 1.0×10-12 to 1.0×10-8 mol/L DNA and a detection limit of 2.3×10-13 mol/L could be ob-tained. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the terminator of nopaline synthase (NOS) gene from the real sample of a kind of transgenic soybean was also satisfactorily detected.
