A road for a promising future for China＇s primates： The potential for restoration

China is one of the most dynamic countries of the world and it shelters some amazing levels of biodiversity, including some very special primate species. however, primarily as a result of forest loss, most of which occurred in historical times, approximately 70% of China＇s primate species have less than 3 000 individuals. here I evaluate one road for future conservation/development that could produce very positive gains for China＇s primates; namely forest restoration. I argue that for a large scale restoration project to be possible two conditions must be met; the right societal conditions must exist and the right knowledge must be in hand. This evaluation suggests that the restoration of native forest to support many of China＇s primates holds great potential to advance conservation goals and to promote primate population recovery.

hydrochar(hC)produced by the hydrothermal carbonization(hTC)of typically wet biomass is generally considered to be less effective for carbon(C)sequestration in soils compared to biochar(BC)by pyrolysis,due to a higher content of more easily decomposable *** the recalcitrance of hC is suggested to improve with increasing hTC production temperature,the way it interacts and becomes associated with soil organic matter(SOM)fractions of different stabilities against decomposition,may also influence its effectiveness for C sequestration in *** that respect,this study aimed to verify the potential of hCs from maize silage produced at different hTC temperatures(190,210 and 230℃)for C sequestration in a hC-amended sandy loam *** do this,we conducted a pot trial experiment and traced the fate of hC-derived C(hC-C)within different SOM fractions,namely the free-and occluded particulate organic matter(POMF and POMO,respectively)fractions and that comprising organic matter(OM)bound to clays(OMCl).Approx.1 year after applying 5%of the different hTC temperature hCs to the soil,the SOM fractions were isolated by density fractionation for each hC treatment(hC190,hC210 and hC230)and the control(absent of hC).All fractions and the hCs were analyzed for organic C(OC)content and isotopic signatures(δ^(13)C).From the δ^(13)C signatures,the amount of hC-C and native soil organic carbon(SOC)within each fraction was *** C contents and decreased h/C and O/C ratios were observed with increasing hTC production temperatures,which sug-gests a lower stability for the low temperature *** ca.1 year,a loss of~20-23%of the bulk soil TOC was found in the hC-amended *** POMF fraction of the hC-amended soils showed losses of 68-81%hC-C and 52-72%native SOC,which may be due to a positive priming effect caused by hC *** POM_(O) and OM_(Cl) fractions of the hC-amended soils contained more OC than the control,indicating the integration of hC-C together wi

The synergistic effects of Nb and Mo on hydrogen-induced cracking(hIC)of pipeline steels were studied experimentally and *** results showed that Mo was primarily segregated at grain-boundaries(GBs)or solid-dissolved in the matrix,while most Nb and a small amount of Mo formed dis-persed(Nb,Mo)C nano-precipitates and refined the *** with Nb alloying,the multi-ple additions of Nb-Mo played dual roles in affecting h diffusion:primarily,the h-traps densities such as GBs,precipitates,and solute Mo atoms increased,providing an advantage;however,Mo slightly reduced the h-trapping capacity of precipitates,playing an adverse ***,the beneficial effects far outweighed the adverse effects,thereby reducing h diffusivity and inhibiting crack ***-ally,Nb and Mo hindered crack propagation synergistically as follows:(i)Mo enhanced GB cohesion by repelling h,impeding intergranular cracking and hydrogen-enhanced decohesion(hEDE);(ii)Nb reduced the proportion of3/high-angle grain boundaries,increasing cracking resistance;(iii)(Nb,Mo)C precip-itates impeded h-dislocation interactions,reducing the hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity(hELP).

Aerosol insecticides may provide an alternative to fumigants for control of the Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella （hübner）, the Indianmeal moth, a major insect pest of stored processed food. In this study, eggs and larvae （5th instars） ofP. interpunctella were exposed to aerosol applications of the pyrethroid esfenvalerate and insect growth regulator methoprene, alone and in combination, in open and obstructed positions inside small sheds. When larvae were exposed to methoprene alone, adult emergence from those exposed larvae was 7.1% ± 1.5%. In contrast, adult emergence was 92.5% ± 3.5% when larvae were exposed to esfenvalerate alone. When eggs were exposed to methoprene, adult emergence of those exposed eggs was approximately 75%; however, when eggs were exposed to esfenvalerate, adult emergence was approximately 35%. In the combination treatment of methoprene plus esfenvalerate at their respective label rates, adult emergence following larval exposure was 0.91% ±0.61% compared to 16.3% ± 9.6% when eggs were exposed. Based on our results, methoprene alone is highly effective in reducing adult emergence after larval exposure. however, it is not as effective on eggs as esfenvalerate. A combination treatment of esfenvalerate plus methoprene could be used to control eggs and the wandering-phase larval stages ofP. interpunctella. An economic risk analysis also supports a strategy of combining methoprene and esfenvalerate.

Twelve years have passed since the advent of grammatical evolution (GE) in 1998, but such issues as vast search space, genotypic readability, and the inherent relationship among grammatical concepts, production rules and derivations have remained untouched in almost all existing GE researches. Model-based approach is an attractive method to achieve different objectives of software engineering. In this paper, we make the first attempt to model syntactically usable information of GE using an automaton, coming up with a novel solution called model-based grammatical evolution (MGE) to these problems. In MGE, the search space is reduced dramatically through the use of concepts from building blocks, but the functionality and expressiveness are still the same as that of classical GE. Besides, complex evolutionary process can visually be analyzed in the context of transition diagrams.
