A fast,robust pipeline for strain mapping of crystalline materials is important for many technological *** electron nanodiffraction allows us to calculate strain maps with high accuracy and spatial resolutions,but this technique is limited when the electron beam undergoes multiple ***-learning methods have the potential to invert these complex signals,but require a large number of training *** implement a Fourier space,complex-valued deep-neural network,FCU-Net,to invert highly nonlinear electron diffraction patterns into the corresponding quantitative structure factor ***-Net was trained using over 200,000 unique simulated dynamical diffraction patterns from different combinations of crystal structures,orientations,thicknesses,and microscope parameters,which are augmented with experimental *** evaluated FCU-Net against simulated and experimental datasets,where it substantially outperforms conventional analysis *** code,models,and training library are open-source and may be adapted to different diffraction measurement problems.

Chlorfenapyr, an insecticidal pyrrole, was applied to concrete arenas at concentrations of 1. 1, 0.825, 0.55, and 0.275 g of active ingredient [AI]/m^2. Adult Tribolium castaneum （herbst）, the red flour beetle, were exposed for 2, 4, or 8 h at each concentration, then removed and held either with or without food （wheat flour） for 7 days. Survival was assessed when the beetles were removed fi＇om the exposure arenas and daily during the post- exposure period. In the presence of food, survival was high regardless of concentration and the day on which post-treatment survival was assessed, but survival did decrease as the exposure period increased from 4 to 8 h. When the beetles were not given food after exposure, survival at each concentration and exposure period declined during the 1-week post- exposure assessments. This pattern of decrease could be described by linear and non-linear equations. Results show the presence of food material greatly compromised effectiveness of the insecticide, and emphasize the importance of cleaning and sanitation in conjunction with insecticide treatments.

A series of field trials were conducted in a commercial food storage facility to evaluate exposure of stored-product insects to aerosol formulations of synergized pyrethrins and the insect growth regulator methoprene. When adults of Tribolium castaneum （herbst）, the red flour beetle, and Tribolium confusum （Jacqueline DuVal）, the confused flour beetle were exposed with and without a food source to synergized pyrethrin aerosol, there was no difference in adult mortality with respect to availability of food at either 7 or 14 days after exposure （P≥0.05）. however, mortality was lower in T. confusum （40.4% and 79.3% with flour at 7 and 14 days, 38.9% and 84.8% without flour at 7 and 14 days） compared to T. castaneum （96.5% and 99.8% with flour at 7 and 14 days, 91.0% and 98.7% without flour at 7 and 14 days）. Few late-stage larvae and pupae of either species exposed to the pyrethrin aerosol emerged as adults. In tests with methoprene aerosol, adult emergence of exposed 3- and 4-week-old larvae of T. confusum was less than 2%. Only 0.3% of 4-week-old larvae of T. castaneum exposed in open and obstructed areas emerged as adults. Emergence of adults from eggs of Plodia interpunctella （hubner）, the Indianmeal moth, embedded in culture media and exposed to the methoprene aerosol was 13.2%±3.5%. Results show that the aerosols evaluated in our study could give effective control of some of the major storedproduct insect pests in commercial food storage facilities, and may offer an alternative to fumigation.

The chemisorption energy is an integral aspect of surface chemistry,central to numerous fields such as catalysis,corrosion,and ***-structure-based methods such as the Newns-Anderson model are therefore of great importance in guiding the engineering of material surfaces with optimal ***,existing methods are inadequate for interpreting complex,multi-metallic ***,we introduce a physics-based chemisorption model for alloyed transition metal surfaces employing primarily metal d-band properties that accounts for perturbations in both the substrate and adsorbate electronic states upon ***,we show that adsorbate-induced changes in the adsorption site interact with its chemical environment leading to a second-order response in chemisorption energy with the d-filling of the neighboring *** demonstrate the robustness of the model on a wide range of transition metal alloys with O,N,Ch,and Li adsorbates yielding a mean absolute error of 0.13 eV versus density functional theory reference chemisorption energies.

Separation media that combine the desired material properties within a single material for a given process remain an ongoing challenge for the gas separations in *** integration of porous solid adsorbents is difficult due to their limited volumetric capacity,whereas issues of volatility and high regeneration temperatures exist for liquid amines and physical ***,we report a family of polymer liquids inspired by hyper-crosslinked polymers(hCPs),a class of highly swellable network *** with a chemically similar porous solid,the hCP-liquids demonstrate good volumetric capacity and improved selectivity of carbon dioxide over *** appears to be enhanced by intramolecular swelling of the hCP-liquids at elevated pressures,while guests are strongly rejected from the hCP-liquids at slightly elevated temperatures,leading to highly efficient *** of adsorption and specific heat capacity of the hCP-liquids are also low,further suggesting favourable process *** being easily prepared at scale,the presented hCP-liquids represent a promising step towards a material with the requisite properties to replace conventional scrubbing solvents to drastically reduce the footprint and energy needs of gas separations.

The recent achievement of fusion ignition with laser-driven technologies at the National Ignition Facility sets a historic accomplishment in fusion energy *** accomplishment paves the way for using laser inertial fusion as a viable approach for future energy *** has a unique opportunity to empower research in this field internationally,and the scientific community is eager to engage in this *** propose establishing a European programme on inertial-fusion energy with the mission to demonstrate laser-driven ignition in the direct-drive scheme and to develop pathway technologies for the commercial fusion *** proposed roadmap is based on four complementary axes:(ⅰ)the physics of laser-plasma interaction and burning plasmas;(ⅱ)high-energy high repetition rate laser technology;(ⅲ)fusion reactor technology and materials;and(ⅳ)reinforcement of the laser fusion community by international education and training *** foresee collaboration with universities,research centres and industry and establishing joint activities with the private sector involved in laser *** project aims to stimulate a broad range of high-profile industrial developments in laser,plasma and radiation technologies along with the expected high-level socio-economic impact.

The Discrete Element Method （DEM） was originally devised by Cundail and Strack （1979）, as a technique to examine the micromechanics of granular media with the anticipation that this would lead to more physically reliable continuum theories to describe the quasi-static deformation of granular material such as sand. however, the methodology models the evolution of a system of particles as a dynamic process. Consequently there have been numerous publications of the application of DEM to an increasingly wider variety of problems in many areas of engineering and science. This paper, however, focuses on the orig- inal motivation for DEM and attempts to provide a state-of-the-art understanding of the quasi-static deformation of granular media. 2009 Chinese Society of Particuology and Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Membrane technology holds great potential in gas separation applications,especially carbon dioxide capture from industrial *** achieve this potential,the outputs from global research endeavours into membrane technologies must be trialled in industrial processes,which requires membrane-based pilot *** pilot plants are critical to the commercialization of membrane technology,be it as gas separation membranes or membrane gas-solvent contactors,as failure at the pilot plant level may delay the development of the technology for ***,the author reports on his experience of operating membrane-based pilot plants for gas separation and contactor configurations as part of three industrial carbon capture initiatives:the Mulgrave project,h3 project and Vales Point ***,the challenges of developing and operating membrane pilot plants are presented,as well as the key learnings on how to successfully manage membrane pilot plants to achieve desired performance *** purpose is to assist membrane technologists in the carbon capture field to achieve successful outcomes for their technology innovations.
