Smart Sediment Particle: A novel approach to investigating fluvial bed entrainment using instrumented sensors

The Smart Sediment Particle(SSP) instrumented with multiple sensors to obtain tri-axial linear accelerations is used for studying the mechanism of coarse grain entrainment. Three bed arrangements are tested to examine their influences on entrainment processes and the threshold force and impulse conditions. The SSP shows satisfactory precision to capture the imperceptible movement tendencies immediately(e.g., 0.15 s) after the dislodgement. The experimental results show that bed packing can significantly affect the particle’s entrainment threshold and the path of movement. Lateral movement is predominant for some cases because the entrainment path is based on the least work done by the flow,even if the direction is not aligned with the flow. The concept of effective protrusion height is proposed to quantify the effect of local bed arrangement on entrainment. The mean velocity field around the SSP is also measured together with the acceleration data. The mean threshold velocity and resultant impulse show consistent dependence on the bed arrangement. In general, the SSP shows a good prospect of being used to study small-scale entrainment mechanism.

基于重、磁异常的西太平洋中段构造特征研究

西太平洋中段包含发育众多独立海山、海山链及海岭的西太平洋海山省(WPSP)、马里亚纳海沟和马里亚纳岛弧,其形成与演化与构造运动密切相关.研究区金属矿产、尤其是WPSP区域的富钴结壳资源较丰富,具有重要的研究意义.本文采用重、磁异常数据研究了西太平洋中段的构造特征.其中,采用归一化总水平导数垂向导数(NVDR-THDR)方法技术划分区域内的断裂,并采用欧拉反褶积深度反演方法得到断裂的视深度;采用深度约束下的双界面模型快速反演方法得到研究区莫霍面的起伏形态;同样采用NVDR-THDR方法技术识别NE向和NW向磁条带;采用重磁对应分析方法圈定研究区的火成岩,包括独立海山、海山链、海岭、马里亚纳岛弧型火成岩及大洋盆地溢流型玄武岩省.通过对研究区断裂分布、莫霍面深度、磁条带分布及火成岩分布的研究,得到了西太平洋中段的构造单元分布特征.马里亚纳海沟东侧,即WPSP区域内识别的断裂走向主要为NW(WNW)向和NE(ENE)向,而西侧,即马里亚纳岛弧区域识别的断裂与马里亚纳岛弧近N-S向的走向特征一致.研究区的大洋盆地溢流型玄武岩省呈NW向条带状展布、NE向块状分布的特征,并与独立海山、海山链和海岭相间分布.综合对西太平洋中段构造特征的研究,认为断裂对研究区的构造演化起到了重要作用.莫霍面深度在一级深大断裂两侧普遍存在突变;一些磁条带被断裂错断;火成岩的形成与分布也受控于断裂:独立海山、海山链、海岭及马里亚纳岛弧型火成岩位于莫霍面凹陷区,大洋盆地溢流型玄武岩省位于莫霍面隆起区.综合以上研究,划分了西太平洋中段的构造单元.在WPSP的构造单元呈NW向条带状展布、NE向块状分布的特征,而马里亚纳弧沟体系的构造单元呈近N-S向带状展布的特征.

频率域地空电磁探测方法是指在地面布设人工场源,在空中测量电磁场的一种高效的地球物理勘探技术.该方法具有大范围、高通过性、快速测量的优势,尤其适合崎岖山地、沙漠、沼泽、海陆交互带等复杂地貌区域的资源勘查.但是这些地区的地形起伏通常较大,因此分析地形对地空电磁响应的影响具有重要意义.本文利用有限元法对频率域地空电磁响应进行了正演计算,分析了起伏地表条件下的频率域地空电磁响应特征.首先利用傅里叶变换将2.5维问题转化成二维问题,利用伽辽金加权余量法推导了相应的离散有限元方程组.采用任意四边形单元对区域进行不均匀网格剖分,源和异常体附近网格加密处理,保证计算精度,远离目标区域网格逐渐稀疏,模拟无穷远边界,降低对计算资源的要求.在单元内进行插值,将有限元方程组变换为线性方程组,采用总场算法,利用具有一定面积的伪δ函数表达源电流分布,源项近似为分布在以电偶极源为中心的25个节点上.通过求解线性方程组得到波数域电磁响应,再对波数域电磁场响应进行反傅里叶变换从而获得空间域2.5维频率域电磁场值.通过对比2.5维正演结果与均匀半空间解析解,验证了本文算法的精度,同时本文还对地空电磁场与地面电磁场的响应特性进行了对比.

nhanced silicate weathering induced by the uplift of the Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau(HTP)has been considered as the major cause of pCO_(2) decline and Cenozoic ***,this hypothesis remains to be validated,largely due to the lack of a reliable reconstruction of the HTP weathering ***,we present a 37-million-year record of the difference in the seawater radiogenic neodymium isotopic composition(△ε_(Nd))of Ocean Drilling Program(ODP)sites and Fe-Mn crusts between the northern and central Indian Ocean,which indicates the contribution of regional weathering input from the South Asian continent to the Indian *** results show a long-term increase in △ε_(Nd) and thus provide the first critical evidence of enhanced South Asian weathering input since the late *** evolution coincided well with major pulses of surface uplift in the HTP and global climatic *** foraminiferal eNd record suggests that tectonic uplift and silicate weathering in South Asia,especially in the Himalayas,might have played a significant role in the late Cenozoic cooling.

grapes(Vitis Vinifera)are one of the world's most utilised and prized *** are a great source of antioxidants due to the abundance of phenolic *** pulp is the main part of the grape being *** pulp of five Australian grown grapes–Dawn Seedless(DS),Calmeria(Cg),golden globe(gg),Menindee Seedless(MS),and Thompson Seedless(TS)will be qualitatively and quantitatively analysed for its phenolic composition and antioxidant *** general trend followed:gg>TS>MS>DS>Cg,and the phenolic content of the pulp also presented a significant positive correlation with the antioxidant *** revealing the highest levels of TPC(4.31±0.11 mg gAE/g)and TFC(0.48±0.09 mg QE/g)while TS were highest in TTC(0.94±0.12 mg CE/g).Similarly,gg exhibited higher antioxidant capacity in DPPH(5.84±0.17 mg AAE/g),FRAP(4.91±0.14 mg AAE/g),and TAC(6.78±0.12 mg AAE/g),while TS revealed highest radical scavenging ability for ABTS(4.56±0.19 mg AAE/g).The LC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS tentatively identified 78 phenolic compounds consisting of flavonoids(36),phenolic acids(31),lignans(3),stilbenes(1),and other polyphenols(7)in five grapes *** most abundant fruit-based targeted polyphenols were *** had a higher phenolic concentration in HPLC-PDA quantification,particularly for phenolic acids(gallic acid and chlorogenic acid)and flavonoids(kaempferol).Our study provides relatively adequate information on grape pulp's phenolic content and antioxidant capacity,providing confidence and research prospects to promote grape pulp use in different food,pharmaceutical and supplement industries,and even influencing grape cultivation.

Purpose: The present study examined the putative relationship between circulating concentrations of glucose and log10 body weight in a large sample size (270) of wild species but with domesticated animals excluded from the analyses. Methods: A data-set of plasma/serum concentration of glucose and body weight in mammalian species was developed from the literature. Allometric relationships were examined. Results: In contrast to previous reports, no overall relationship for circulating concentrations of glucose was observed across 270 species of mammals (for log10 glucose concentration adjusted R2 = -0.003;for glucose concentration adjusted R2 = -0.003). In contrast, a strong allometric relationship was observed for circulating concentrations of glucose in Primates (for log10 glucose concentration adjusted R2 = 0.511;for glucose concentration adjusted R2 = 0.480). Conclusion: The absence of an allometric relationship for circulating concentrations of glucose was unexpected. A strong allometric relationship was seen in Primates.

Managing blood loss in Jehovah’s Witness(JW)patients is a matter of *** patients will not accept transfusions of red blood cells,white blood cells,platelets or plasma,even if that is required to save their *** are many discussions regarding safety of operating upon JW patients in general surgical procedures,but in solid organ transplantation there is a paucity of literature on this *** have reviewed individual case reports and small series documenting on experience with solid organ transplantation in JW patients and the strategies adopted to facilitate *** is clear that such patients require the surgical team to dedicate more time to ensure their safe *** begins with a thorough,detailed consent of exactly which products and interventions they will or will not *** must begin weeks before surgery if *** case must be assessed individually,but provided they meet fitness requirements,there are no absolute contraindications to abdominal organ transplantation.

A Comparative Analysis of Four Kinds of Polysaccharides Purified from Furcellaria lumbricalis

Four kinds of polysaccharides (FA, FB, FC and FD) were extracted and purified from a red alga Furcellaria lumbri-calis. Their monosaccharide composition, average molecular mass (Mw) and structural feature were determined by gas chromatog-raphy (gC), high performance gel permeation chromatography (HPgPC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The results showed that FA and FB were composed of galactose (gal), 3,6-anhydro-galactose (Ang) and 4-sulfated-galactose (g4S), which were structurally similar to β-carrageenan and κ-carrageenan. FC was composed of sulfated galactose and small amount of Ang, indicating that it was a hybrid-sulfated galactan. FD was composed of α-1, 4-glucose and belonged to floridean starch. The respective yields of FA, FB, FC and FD were 4.84%,33.74%,8.76% and 13.5%, and the cor-responding Mw were 537 kD, 432 kD, 513 kD and 51 kD respectively. Owning to its high content ( >60%) of polysaccharide, F. lumbricalis will be a good source of marine sulfated polysaccharide and shows its potential utilization in food and medicine.
