Data replenishment of five moderate earthquake sequences in Japan, with semi-automatic cluster selection

Missing early aftershocks following relatively large or moderate earthquakes can cause significant bias in the analysis of seismic catalogs.In this paper,we systematically address the aftershock missing problem for five earthquake sequences associated with moderate-size events that occurred inland Japan,by using a stochastic replenishing method.The method is based on the notion that if a point process(e.g.,earthquake sequence)with timeindependent marks(e.g.,magnitudes)is completely observed,it can be transformed into a homogeneous Poisson process by a bi-scale empirical transformation.We use the Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA)earthquake catalog to select the aftershock data and replenish the missing early events using the later complete part of each aftershock sequence.The time windows for each sequence span from 6 months before the mainshock to three months after.The semi-automatic spatial selection uses a clustering method for the epicentral selection of earthquakes.The results obtained for the original JMA catalog and replenished datasets are compared to get insight into the biases that the missing early aftershocks may cause on the Omori-Utsu law parameters’estimation,characterizing the aftershock decay with time from the mainshock.We have also compared the Omori-Utsu law parameter estimates for two datasets following the same mainshock;the first dataset is the replenished sequence,while the second dataset has been obtained by waveform-based analysis to detect early aftershocks that are not recorded in the JMA catalog.Our results demonstrate that the Omori-Utsu law parameters estimated for the replenished datasets are robust with respect to the threshold magnitude used for the analyzed datasets.Even when using aftershock time windows as short as three days,the replenished datasets provide stable Omori-Utsu law parameter estimations.The p-values for all the analyzed sequences are about 1.1 and c-values are significantly smaller compared to those of original datasets.Our findings prove that the replenishment m

Selective electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide at zigzag edges of exfoliated molybdenum telluride nanoflakes

The two-electron reduction of molecular oxygen represents an effective strategy to enable the green, mild and on-demand synthesis of hydrogen peroxide. Its practical viability, however, hinges on the development of advanced electrocatalysts, preferably composed of non-precious elements, to selectively expedite this reaction, particularly in acidic medium. Our study here introduces 2H-MoTe;for the first time as the efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalyst for the electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide in acids. We show that exfoliated 2H-MoTe;nanoflakes have high activity(onset overpotential ～140 mV and large mass activity of 27 A g;at 0.4 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode), great selectivity（H;O;percentage up to 93%） and decent stability in 0.5 M H;SO;. Theoretical simulations evidence that the high activity and selectivity of 2H-MoTe;arise from the proper binding energies of HOO;and O;at its zigzag edges that jointly favor the two-electron reduction instead of the four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen.

The molecular mechanism by which plants defend against plant root-knot nematodes(RKNs)is largely unknown.The plant receptor kinase FERONIA and its peptide ligands,rapid alkalinization factors(RALFs),regulate plant immune responses and cell expansion,which are two important factors for successful RKN parasitism.In this study,we found that mutation of FERONIA in Arabidopsis thaliana resulted in plants showing low susceptibility to the RKN Meloidogyne incognita.To identify the underlying mechanisms associated with this phenomenon,we identified 18 novel RALF-likes from multiple species of RKNs and showed that two RALF-likes(i.e.,MiRALF1 and MiRALF3)from M.incognita were expressed in the esophageal gland with high expression during the parasitic stages of nematode development.These nematode RALF-likes also possess the typical activities of plant RALFs and can directly bind to the extracellular domain of FERONIA to modulate specific steps of nematode parasitism-related immune responses and cell expansion.Genetically,both MiRALF1/3 and FERONIA are required for RKN parasitism in Arabidopsis and rice.Collectively,our study suggests that nematode-encoded RALFs facilitate parasitism via plant-encoded FERONIA and provides a novel paradigm for studying host-pathogen interactions.

Mismatch repair enzyme expression in primary and castrate resistant prostate cancer

Objective:Although the utility of immunohistochemistry(IHC)for assessing mismatch repair(MMR)protein expression has been demonstrated in solid tumors including primary prostate cancer(PCa),its utility has not been assessed in castration-resistant PCa(CRPC).Methods:Tissue microarrays were constructed from 127 radical prostatectomies and 155 CRPC metastases from 50 patients.MMR(MLH1,MSH2,MSH6,and PMS2)expression was assessed by IHC and gene expression arrays.Associations between MMR protein expression in PCa and CRPC and biochemical recurrence(BCR)or time from diagnosis to death respectively were determined.Results:There was no correlation between levels of MMR protein and BCR.Absence of MSH2 and MSH6 was the most pronounced at 15%and 22%in PCa and 17.8%and 16%in CRPC patients,respectively.MSH2 and MSH6 protein were absent in 9.4%and 8%of PCa and CRPC respectively.Absence of individual MMR proteins did not correlate with BCR or time from diagnosis to death.However absent MSH2/MSH6 in CRPC was associated with shorter time to death(pZ0.0006).Loss of MSH2 was verified at the gene expression level.This finding correlated with microsatellite instability previously reported in this CRPC cohort.

随着中央环保督察逐渐走向制度化、常态化,不少地方政府开始将环境精细化治理转变为持续有效的常规治理。在现有的权力配置结构中,地方核心行动者是环境精细化治理的支配力量,其行动偏好与行动能力主导着环境精细化治理的政策走向和效能。科尔曼理性选择理论认为,个人的目的性行动是宏观结构性因素与微观个体理性选择交织互动的结果,行动者理性不仅包括经济理性,还包括社会理性。这一理论对分析中央环保督察下地方核心行动者的环境精细化治理行为逻辑具有很强的适用性。基于科尔曼理性选择理论视角的考察发现,制度的非耦合性、公众的“软约束”以及“政绩标尺化”泛化和异化的惯性,给地方核心行动者在多大程度上实施环境精细化治理扩大了行动空间,并衍生出组合赋权、差序应对和反向避责的回应方式与行为取向。为此,需要“理性扩充”,以“无缝隙”制度、协商民主机制和行动者网络等规制和导引地方核心行动者的环境精细化治理行为。

Soft tissue release combined with joint-sparing osteotomy for treatment of cavovarus foot deformity in older children: Analysis of 21 cases

BACKGROUND Cavovarus foot is a common form of foot deformity in children,which is clinically characterized by an abnormal increase of the longitudinal arch of the foot,and it can be simultaneously complicated with forefoot pronation and varus,rearfoot varus,Achilles tendon contracture,or cock-up toe deformity.Muscle force imbalance is the primary cause of such deformity.Many diseases can lead to muscle force imbalance,such as tethered cord syndrome,cerebral palsy,Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease,and trauma.At present,many surgical treatments are available for cavovarus foot.For older children,priority should be given to midfoot osteotomy and fusion.Since complications such as abnormal foot length,foot stiffness,and abnormal gait tend to develop postoperatively,it is important to preserve the joints and correct the deformity as much as possible.Adequate soft tissue release and muscle balance are the keys to correcting the deformity and avoiding its postoperative recurrence.AIM To assess the efficacy of soft tissue release combined with joint-sparing osteotomy in the treatment of cavovarus foot deformity in older children.METHODS The clinical data of 21 older children with cavovarus foot deformity(28 feet)who were treated surgically at the Ninth Department of Orthopedics of Jizhong Energy Xingtai Mining Group General Hospital from November 2014 to July 2017 were retrospectively analyzed.The patients ranged in age from 10 to 14 years old,with an average age of 12.46±1.20 years.Their main clinical manifestations were deformity,pain,and gait abnormality.The patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine,electromyographic examination,weightbearing anteroposterior and lateral X-rays of the feet,and the coleman block test.Surgical procedures including metatarsal fascia release,Achilles tendon or medial gastrocnemius lengthening,"V"-shaped osteotomy on the dorsal side of the metatarsal base,opening medial cuneiform wedge osteotomy,closing cuboid osteotomy,anterior transfer of the posterior tibial tendon,pero

抚远城子山古城遗址作为全国重点文物保护单位,其历史认定问题始终存在巨大分歧。学界和官方将其认定为莽吉塔故城,却在在文献和考古信息上均得不到支持。笔者根据实地调查,综合现有研究成果,确认莽吉塔城就是明代海西东驿路满泾站。城子山为清代所谓科勒木洪库,其城址非冷兵器时代土著所修,而是《历史文献补编》《黑龙江旅行记》《俄国人在黑龙江》等文献所载1653年9月斯捷潘诺夫哥萨克匪帮所筑冬营。

教育公平是指在特定的社会条件下,人人享有平等受教育的权利和机会,促使自然潜能得到最充分与自由发展的教育理想。中国社会的教育公平仍在接受着严重的挑战。入学机会上的不均等、求学条件上的不公平以及市场机制介入教育和教育市场是中国社会教育不公平现象存在的原因。应用科尔曼教育平等理论及马丁.特罗的大众化理论可以为中国社会的教育公平问题找到理论上的解决之路。同时在实践上,中国社会也要通过正确处理公平与效率的关系、制度上的安排、创新来实现真正的教育公平。
