Effects of soil metal(loid)s pollution on microbial activities and environmental risks in an abandoned chemical smelting site

Abandoned chemical smelting sites containing toxic substances can seriously threaten and pose a risk to the surrounding ecological *** samples were collected from different depths(0 to 13 m)and analyzed for metal(loid)s content and fractionation,as well as microbial *** potential ecological risk indices for the different soil depths(ordered from high to low)were:1 m(D-1)>surface(S-0)>5 m(D-5)>13 m(D-13)>9 m(D-9),ranging between 1840.65-13,089.62,and representing extremely high environmental risks,of which Cd(and probably not arsenic)contributed to the highest environmental risk.A modified combined pollution risk index(MCR)combining total content and mobile proportion of metal(loid)s,and relative toxicities,was used to evaluate the degree of contamination and potential environmental *** the near-surface samples(S-0 and D-1 layers),the MCR considered that As,Cd,Pb,Sb,and Zn achieved high and alarming degrees of contamination,whereas Fe,Mn,and Ti were negligible or low to moderate pollution *** microcalorimetry and enzymatic activity measurements of contaminated soil samples were used to assess the microbial metabolic activity *** analysis elucidated the relationship between metal(loid)s exchangeable fraction or content and microbial activity characteristics(p<0.05).The microbial metabolic activity in the D-1 layer was low presumably due to heavy metal *** activity indicators and microcalorimetric growth rate(k)measurements were considered sensitive indicators to reflect the soil microbial activities in abandoned chemical smelting sites.

Multilayered defense responses are activated upon pathogen *** utilize a number of strategies to maximize the coding capacity of their small genomes and produce viral proteins for infection,including suppression of host ***,we reveal translation leakage as one of these strategies:two viral effec-tors encoded by tomato golden mosaic virus,chloroplast-localized C4(cC4)and membrane-associated C4(mC4),are translated from two in-frame start codons and function cooperatively to suppress ***4 localizes in chloroplasts,to which it recruits NbPUB4 to induce ubiquitination of the outer membrane;as a result,this organelle is degraded,and chloroplast-mediated defenses are ***,chloroplast-localized cC4 induces the production of singlet oxygen(1O2),which in turn promotes translo-cation of the 1O2 sensor NbMBS1 from the cytosol to the nucleus,where it activates expression of the CERK1 ***,an antiviral effect exerted by CERK1 is countered by mC4,localized at the plasma ***4,like cC4,recruits NbPUB4 and promotes the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of CERK1,suppressing membrane-based,receptor-like kinase-dependent ***,this translation leakage strategy seems to be conserved in multiple viral species and is related to host *** suggests that stacking of different cellular antiviral responses could be an effective way to abrogate viral infection and engineer sustainable resistance to major crop viral diseases in thefield.

目的　定量评价二尖瓣球囊瓣膜成形术对肺高压和心输出量的即刻和远期影响。方法　应用频谱多普勒和心导管技术测定了４７例二尖瓣球囊瓣膜成形术（ＭＢＶＰ）患者术前和术后长期随访的血流动力学改变。结果ＭＢＶＰ后即刻和随访期较术前心脏指数显著增加。肺动脉高压状态显著降低（Ｐ＜０．０１）。结论　ＭＢＶＰ可显著改善二狭患者术后即刻和长期的血流动力学；频谱多普勒是无创定量评价和随访ＭＢＶＰ疗效的可靠技术。

Risk Factors in Surgical Site Infections

Purpose of the Research: Our study aimed to determine and understand the risk factors of surgical site infections in patients operated on in general surgery wards. Method of Research: Between May 2008 and November 2008, 422 consecutive patients who underwent emergency and elective surgeries, excluding breast, goitre and laparoscopic surgeries, were included in the study to determine surgical site infections and risk factors. The patients’ risk factors were selected in the preoperative period, and postoperative 3rd, 7th, and 30th days were checked by the physician responsible for conducting the study regarding surgical site infection. Results and Conclusion: Surgical site infections were defined as incisional and organ/space based on NNIS data. Gender, diabetes mellitus, malignancy, degree of contamination, ASA score ≥ 3, preoperative skin cleansing, duration of intensive care unit stay, duration of hospital stay, growth in wound culture, duration of surgery and incision length were determined as risk factors increasing CAI rates. Especially the degree of contamination, duration of intensive care unit stay, hospitalisation, duration of operation, and growth in wound culture were decisive factors in the development of CAI. As a result of our study, in the light of these data, we concluded that to prevent the development of CAI can be modified, interventions to foreseeable factors can be assessed.

A successful pregnancy relies on immunological adaptations that allow the fetus to grow and develop in the uterus, despite being recognized by maternal immune cells. Among several immunocompetent cell types present within the human maternal/fetal interface, DC-SIGN~ dendritic cells （DCs） and CD56＋ natural killer （NK） cells are of major importance for early pregnancy maintenance, not only generating maternal immunological tolerance but also regulating stromal cell differentiation. Previous reports show the presence of NK-DC cell conjugates in first trimester human decidua, suggesting that these cells may play a role in the modulation of the local immune response within the uterus. While effective immunity is necessary to protect the mother from harmful pathogens, some form of tolerance must be activated to avoid an immune response against fetal antigens. This review article discusses current evidence concerning the functions of DC and NK cells in pregnancy and their liaison in human decidua.

Cone Metric Spaces and Fixed Point Theorems in Diametrically Contractive Mappings

In this paper, some topological concepts and definitions are generalized to cone metric spaces. It is proved that every cone metric space is first countable topological space and that sequentially compact subsets axe compact. Also, we define diametrically contractive mappings and asymptotically diametrically contractive mappings on cone metric spaces to obtain some fixed point theorems by assuming that our cone is strongly minihedral.

Hybrid High‑Order Methods for the Acoustic Wave Equation in the Time Domain

We devise hybrid high-order(HHO)methods for the acoustic wave equation in the time *** frst consider the second-order formulation in *** the Newmark scheme for the temporal discretization,we show that the resulting HHO-Newmark scheme is energy-conservative,and this scheme is also amenable to static condensation at each time *** then consider the formulation of the acoustic wave equation as a frst-order system together with singly-diagonally implicit and explicit Runge-Kutta(SDIRK and ERK)***-SDIRK schemes are amenable to static condensation at each time *** HHO-ERK schemes,the use of the mixed-order formulation,where the polynomial degree of the cell unknowns is one order higher than that of the face unknowns,is key to beneft from the explicit structure of the *** results on test cases with analytical solutions show that the methods can deliver optimal convergence rates for smooth solutions of order O(hk+1)in the H1-norm and of order O(h^(k+2))in the L^(2)-***,test cases on wave propagation in heterogeneous media indicate the benefts of using high-order methods.
