Inversion of the paleo-geothermal gradient using low-temperature thermochronology: A case study of the Haiyuan -Liupanshan region

The paleo-geothermal gradient is a crucial parameter for converting the thermal history to the exhumation history. However， the precise estimation of this parameter has been a challenge. This paper presents a simple two-step method to model the paleo-geothermal gradient using low-temperature thermochronology. (1) It uses the Monte Carlo approach to generate thermal histories in a vertical section randomly and calculates the entire thermal history within the goodness-of-fit thresholds based on different paleo-geothermal gradients. (2) It selects the optimum paleo-geothermal gradient by comparing the entire thermal history within different goodness-of-fit thresholds. We validated the method with apatite (U-Th)/He and fission track data collected from two drill cores in the Haiyuan-Liupanshan region. The result revealed that the best-fit paleo-geothermal gradient was ～42 ℃/km during the Early Cretaceous–Miocene and has decreased rapidly to 20 ℃/km since ～10 Ma. The crust thickening in the study area may explain the rapid reduction in the paleo-geothermal gradient since ～10 Ma. Our results are consistent with earlier studies in the region， suggesting that our simple and more intuitive approach provides an alternative method for paleo-geothermal gradient modeling.

Brain size and weight vary tremendously in the animal kingdom. It has been suggested that brain structural development must evolve balanced between the advantages of dealing with greater social challenges and the energetic costs of maintaining and developing larger brains. Here we ask if interspecific differences in cooperative behaviour (i.e. cleaning behaviour) are related to brain weight variations in four close-related species of Labrid fish: two are obligatory cleanerfish throughout their entire life (Labroides dimidiatusandL. bicolor), one facultative cleaner fishLabropsis australisand one last species that never engage in cleaningLabrichthys unilineatus. We first search for the link between the rate of species’ cooperation and its relative brain weight, and finally, if the degree of social complexity and cooperation are reflected in the weight of its major brain substructures. Overall, no differences were found in relative brain weight (in relation to body weight) across species. Fine-scale differences were solely demonstrated for the facultative cleanerL. australis, at the brainstem level. Furthermore, data visual examination indicates that the average cerebellum and brainstem weights appear to be larger forL. dimidiatus. Because variation was solely found at specific brain areas (such as cerebellum and brainstem) and not for the whole brain weight values, it suggests that species social-ecological and cognitive demands may be directly contributing to a selective investment in relevant brain areas. This study provides first preliminary evidence that links potential differences in cognitive ability in cooperative behaviour to how these may mediate the evolution of brain structural development in non-mammal vertebrate groups.

The fungus-growing ants （Tribe Attini） are a New World group of〉 200 species, all obligate symbionts with a fungus they use for food. Four attine taxa are known to be social parasites of other attines. Acromyrmex （ Pseudoatta） argentina argentina and Acromyrmex （Pseudoatta） argentina platensis （parasites of Acromyrmex lundi）, and Acromyrmex sp. （a parasite of Acromyrmex rugosus） produce no worker caste. In contrast, the recently discovered Acromyrmex insinuator （a parasite of Acromyrmex echinatior） does produce workers. Here, we describe a new species, Acromyrmex ameliae, a social parasite of Acromyrmex subterraneus subterraneus and Acromyrmex subterraneus brunneus in Minas Gerais, Brasil. Like A. insinuator, it produces workers and appears to be closely related to its hosts. Similar social parasites may be fairly common in the fungus-growing ants, but overlooked due to the close resemblance between parasite and host workers.

Since Dr. Thomas Starzl performed the first series of successful liver transplants(LTs), important advances have been made in immunosuppression, operative techniques, and postoperative care. In 1988, Belzer's group reported the first successful LT using the University of Wisconsin preservation solution(UW).Since then, UW has replaced EuroCollins solution and allowed prolonged and safer preservation of liver, kidney, and pancreas allografts, thus contributing to the improvement of transplant outcomes. Although UW is still considered the standard of care in the United States and in several countries worldwide, a recent meta-analysis revealed similar LT outcomes among UW, Celsior solution, and the Institut Georges Lopez-1 preservation solution, which were slightly superior to those obtained with histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate preservation *** preservation has been recently developed, and liver allografts are preserved mainly through the following methods: hypothermic machine perfusion, normothermic machine perfusion, and subnormothermic machine perfusion. Their use has the potential advantage of improving clinical results in LT involving extended criteria donor allografts. Although associated with increased costs, techniques employing machine perfusion of liver allografts have been considered clinically feasible. This editorial focuses on recent advances and future perspectives in liver allograft preservation.

The objectives of this study were to apply statistical techniques to discriminate fertilization treatments of Eremanthus erythropappus（DC.） Mac *** autoregressive modeling, and to develop individual tree models for diameter and crown area（CA） projection to define management strategies for candeia plantations subjected to different fertilization treatments. This is an important tree species originating from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain forest and Savannah biomes, intensively used in the cosmetic industry. Nonetheless, to date, research has not addressed the management of natural stands or plantations of the species. Our experiment was located in Baependi, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and comprised of four randomized blocks and 13 treatments. The treatments consisted of 12 different regimes of fertilization plus a control. Each sample plot was composed of 50 plants plus two border plants in a planting spacing of 2.5 9 2.0 m and undergoing pruning at 5 and 6 years of age. Starting in the second year, total tree height（H） and circumference（at 1.30 m from the ground or breast height, CBH） were measured every 6 months. Starting in the fifth year CA was measured. Tree growth varied by fertilization *** were detected by using an autoregressive approach, considering that standard statistical methods were not powerful enough to detect significant *** growth groups were formed, and maximum growth was obtained for treatment 10（NPK, 8-28-16）. Management guidelines are provided based on individual tree models for different fertilization levels.

A study of a combination of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network for location in Dili Timor Leste is introduced in this paper. One calendar year’s results of solar radiation from January to December 2014 are used as input data to estimate future forecasting of solar radiation using the LSTM network for three months period. The WRF model version 3.9.1 is used to simulate one year’s solar radiation in horizontal resolution low scale for nesting domain 1 × 1 km. It is done by applying 6-hourly interval 1º × 1º NCEP FNL analysis data used as Global Forecast System (GFS). LSTM network is applied for forecasting in numerous learning problems for solar radiation forecasting. LSTM network uses two-layer LSTM architecture of 512 hidden neurons coupled with a dense output layer with linear as the model activation to predict with time steps are configured to 50 and the number of features is 1. The maximum epoch is set to 325 with batch size 300 and the validation split is 0.09. The results demonstrate that the combination of these two methods can successfully predict solar radiation where four error metrics of mean bias error (MBE), root mean square error (RMSE), normalized MBE (nMBE), and normalized RMSE (nRMSE) perform small error distribution and percentage in three months prediction where the error percentage is obtained below the 20% for nMBE and nRMSE. This paper investigates the accuracy of weather research and forecasting by improving coding for solar radiation forecasting for location in Dili Timor Leste. Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model version 3.9.1 is used in this study for improvement purposes. The shortwave coding of WRF is used to improve in order to decrease error simulation. The importance of improving WRF coding at a specific region will reduce the bias and root mean square root when comparing to the observed data. This study uses high resolution based on the WRF modeling to stabilize the performance of forecasting. The decrease in error performance will be expected to enhance the value of renewable energy. The results show the root mean square error of the WRF default is 233 W/m2 higher compared to 205 W/m2 from the WRF improvement model. In addition, the Mean Bias Error (MBE) of the WRF default is obtained value 0.06 higher than 0.03 from the WRF improvement in rainy days. Meanwhile, on sunny days, the performance Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of WRF default is 327 W/m2 higher than 223 W/m2 from the WRF improvement. The MBE of WRF improvement obtained 0.13 lower compared to 0.21 of WRF default coding. Finally, this study concludes that improving the shortwave code under the WRF model can decrease the error performance of the WRF simulation for local weather forecasting.
