Rainfall partitioning in young clonal plantations Eucalyptus species in a subtropical environment,and implications for water and forest management

Different canopy characteristics of industrial eucalyptus may lead to differences in water evaporation and availability to *** study aims to understand rainfall partitioning in a young clonal plantation(age of 2-4.5 years)of three eucalyptus species by relating tree parameters:diameter at breast height,total height,and leaf area *** measured rainfall,throughfall,stemflow and litter interception,along with the tree *** eucalyptus trees had rainfall interception varying between 22 mm(for 178 mm of rainfall)and 42 mm(for 87 mm of te rainfall),throughfall between 106 mm(for 186 mm of rainfall)and 44 mm(for 74 mm of rainfall),and stemflow between 0.5 mm(for 92 mm of rainfall)and 1.4 mm(for 24 mm of rainfall).For the three species,rainfall interception varied between 12 and 48%,throughfall between 57 and 90%,and stemflow between 0.3 and 5.4%.The coefficient of determination between interception and rainfall was 0.76,indicating interception depends on other variables,possibly including antecedent rainfall,rainfall intensity,and *** decreased with a reduction in leaf area index caused by eucalyptus *** *** had 0.75 mm of throughfall per 1 mm of rainfall,whereas in *** and E saligna,these ratios were 0.71 and 0.68,*** in *** and *** had a higher positive relationship with the diameter at breast height of the trees,whereas in *** the highest relationship was with the *** results contribute to establishing management strategies,such as choosing suitable eucalyptus species to local climate,and to improve the synchronization of crop-demand versus soil-water-supply while maintaining streamflow to fulfill ecological and production needs.

Brazilian biomes are home to a significant portion of the world’s biodiversity,with a total of 14%of existing species and still concentrate 20%of the world’s water ***,changes in biomes have a direct impact on rainfall patterns and water *** on this,the objective was to evaluate the variability of rainfall in the four existing biomes in the Northeast Brazil(NEB)and their interaction with the ENSO climate variability mode and regional scale meteorological systems via CHELSA *** this,monthly rainfall data were used from 1979 to 2013,with a spatial resolution of 1 km×1 km of the CHELSA product,and seasonal and annual rainfall patterns were extracted via *** was found that the rainy season in the Amazon,Caatinga and Cerrado biomes occurred between January and April,with varying intensities,except for the Atlantic *** seasonality patterns are associated with the NEB meteorological systems,with emphasis on ITCZ(all Biomes),UTCV(Amazon,Caatinga and Cerrado),Frontal Systems(extreme south of Caatinga,Cerrado and Atlantic Forest)and EWD/TWD in the(Atlantic Forest).In the inter-annual scale,the remarkable influence of ENSO was verified,mainly in the years 1983,1985,1989,1993,1998,2009 and *** is noteworthy that 1985 was the wettest year of the period,with a surplus in all biomes,while the driest year differs between the Amazon(1983),Atlantic Forest and Caatinga(1993)and Cerrado(2012)*** study via orbital product in NEB showed that anthropogenic processes and natural variability interfere with the forms of rain interception in the biomes and hence in rainfall patterns and water recycling in NEB.

Growth mechanism of octahedron-like BaMoO_4 microcrystals processed in microwave-hydrothermal:Experimental observations and computational modeling

Octahedron-like BaMoO4 microcrystals were synthesized by the co-precipitation method at room temperature and processed in microwave-hydrothermal at 413 K for different times （from 30 min to 5 h）. These microcrystals were analyzed by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, field-emission gun scanning electron microscopy （FEG-SEM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. XRD patterns showed that this material presents a tetragonal structure without the presence of deleterious phases. FEG-SEM and TEM micrographs revealed that the BaMoO4 microcrystals present an octahedron-like morphology with agglomerate nature and polydisperse particle size distribution. These micrographs also indicated that the microcrystals grow along the [0 01 ] direction. The observed crystallographic planes in these structures were modeled computationally and a crystal growth model was proposed in order to explain the morphological changes as a function of processing time.

AIM: To evaluate the demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) in a geographic area in Northeastern ***: This retrospective study was conducted at the Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí in Northeastern Brazil. Demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of IBD were analyzed in relation to the time of diagnostic confirmation, which was defined as the date of disease onset. Data were collected between January 2011 and December 2012 and included all census patients 18 years of age or older during that period for whom there was diagnostic confirmation of Crohn's disease(CD), ulcerative colitis(UC), or unclassified colitis according to the Montreal criteria. We also analyzed the period of time between the onset of clinical manifestations and the diagnosis of IBD(delay in the diagnosis). Statistical analyses included means and standard deviations for numeric variables and the Pearson χ2 adherence test for nominal variables. The annual index occurrence and overall prevalence of IBD at our institution were also calculated, with P values < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. This study was approved by the Institutional Ethics and Research ***: A total of 252 patients with IBD were included, including 152(60.3%) UC patients and 100(39.7%) CD patients. The clinical and demographic characteristics of all patients with IBD showed a female to male ratio of 1.3:1.0 and a mean age of35.2(SD = 14.5) years. In addition, the majority of patients were miscegenated(171, 67.9%), had received higher education(157, 62.4%), lived in urban areas(217, 86.1%), and were under the age of 40 years(97, 62.5%). Recovery Slope of Heart Rate Variability as an Indicator of Internal Training Load

The way in which the Root Mean Square of the Successive Differences between adjacent RR intervals (RMSSD) recovers immediately after exercise could be a good indicator of internal training load (ITL). The aim of this study is to design a recovery index based on RMSSD. Forteen healthy men took part in this study. The experiment lasted 2 weeks, with 4 separate (48 - 72 h) sessions. First session was an incremental treadmill test to determine ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) and maximal aerobic speed (MAS). Each subject ran at VT1 speed (second day), VT2 speed (third day) and a time-to-exhaustion test at MAS (fourth day). The duration of VT1 and VT2 loads was selected in such a way that the product intensity-duration (training load) was the same. HRV was measured from 10’ prior to test (Rest) to 30’ after completed (Recovery). Recovery slopes were calculated from RMSSD values at 10 and 30 minutes. Borg scale was recorded at the end of every test and the Training Impulse (TRIMP) values were calculated using Banister equations. The RMSSD values dropped substantially regardless of the intensity and the duration of exercise (average 4 ms). The RMSSD recovery was linear during the 30 min and different depending on the intensity of exercise. To propose a recovery index, we calculated the slope of RMSDD over the 30 minutes (slope-30) and also the first 10 minutes (slope-10). Given that the slopes presented an exponential behavior in relation with effort intensity, three curves were obtained (average values, plus SD and minus SD) defining a nomogram. For practical application, we propose: 1) to measure RMSSD the last 5 minutes of exercise and any period of 5 minutes during the first 30 minutes recovery;2) to calculate the slope of RMSSD between exercise and recovery;3) to compare with the nomogram.

We investigate the chiral emission from non-chiral molecules coupled to metasurfaces with a unit cell formed by dimers of detuned and displaced Si nanodisks. The detuning and displacement lead to the formation of narrow modes, known as quasi-bound states in the continuum (Q-BICs), with different electric and magnetic characteristics. The dispersion and character of the modes are explained by using the guided-mode expansion method and finite-element simulations. The coupling between these modes leads to an extrinsic chiral response with large circular dichroism for defined energies and wavevectors. When the lattice constant of the metasurface is changed,the dispersion of the extrinsic chiral Q-BICs can be tuned and the emission properties of a thin film of dye molecules on top of the metasurface are modified. In particular, we observe strongly directional and circularly polarized emission from the achiral dye molecules with a degree of circular polarization reaching 0.8 at the wavelengths defined by the dispersion of the Q-BICs. These results could enable the realization of compact light sources with a large degree of circular polarization for applications in displays, optical recording, or optical communication.?2024 Chinese Laser Press

A remote,fully oriented personalized program of physical exercise for women in follow-up after breast cancer treatment improves body composition and physical fitness
