This paper aims to systematically investigate the cataracting-centrifuging transition in a rotary drum involving spherical and nonspherical particles by using the Multiphase Granular Eulerian Model(MGEM).The effects of drum length and particle shape on the cataracting-centrifuging transition behavior were *** results showed that drum length plays an important role in the cataracting-centrifuging transition,although most related works in the literature do not consider *** particle shape also significantly affects the cataracting-centrifuging transition *** particles required lower rotation speeds than spherical particles to reach the centrifuging *** particle shape was shown to be related to the critical solid fraction(asc)from Schaeffer’s model,although further investigations are required to completely correlate particle spherecity with critical solid volume fractions.

Recent empirical and theoretical studies suggest that personality and locomotory performance traits linked to dispersal abilities are crucial components of the dispersal syndromes,and that they can evolve during range expansions and colonization *** colonization is one of the best characterized processes in dispersal biogeography,and its implication in the evolution of phenotypic traits has been investigated over a wide range of temporal ***,the effect of island colonization on personality and performance traits of natural populations,and how these traits could drive island colonization,has been little ***,no studies have addressed these processes in the context of late Pleistocene range ***,we investigated the contribution of island colonization triggered by postglacial range expansions to intraspecific variation in personality and locomotory performance *** compared boldness,exploration,jumping performance,and stickiness abilities in populations from 3 equidistant areas of the Tyrrhenian tree frog Hyla sarda,2 from the main island(Corsica Island),and 1 from the recently colonized island of *** from Elba were significantly bolder than individuals from Corsica,as they emerged sooner from a shelter(P=0.028),while individuals from Corsica showed markedly higher jumping and stickiness performance(both P<0.001),resulting as more performing than those of *** discuss these results in the context of the major microevolutionary processes at play during range expansion,including selection,spatial sorting,founder effects,and their possible interaction with local adaptation processes.

Reporter genes produce a protein product in transfected cells that can be easily measured in intact or lysed cells and they have been extensively used in numerous basic and applied research *** the past 10 years,reporter gene assays have been widely accepted and used for analysis of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and related dioxin-like compounds in various types of matrices,such as biological,environmental,food and feed samples,given that high-resolution instrumental analysis techniques are impractical for large-scale screening *** most sensitive cell-based reporter gene bioassay systems developed are the mechanism-based CALUX(Chemically Activated Luciferase Expression) and CAFLUX(Chemically Activated Fluorescent Expression) bioassays,which utilize recombinant cell lines containing stably transfected dioxin(AhR) responsive firefly luciferase or enhanced green fluorescent protein(EGFP) reporter genes,*** the current CALUX and CAFLUX bioassays are very sensitive,increasing their lower limit of sensitivity,magnitude of response and dynamic range for chemical detection would significantly increase their utility,particularly for those samples that contain low levels of dioxin-like HAHs(i.e.,serum) .In this study,we report that the addition of modulators of cell signaling pathways or modification of cell culture conditions results in significant improvement in the magnitude and overall responsiveness of the existing CALUX and CAFLUX cell bioassays.

Concurrent with the obesity epidemic,non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is rapidly becoming the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide(1).NAFLD,particularly its histological phenotype non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),can progress to advanced liver disease,cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma and indication for liver transplantation(2).Although remarkable advances have been made in the understanding of the pathophysiology of NAFLD,the exact mechanism of hepatic fat accumulation and the progression to NASH is not fully ***,in order to reduce the burden associated with these diseases,it is imperative that all major factors that contribute to the development of NAFLD are identified.

Neuromuscular diseases(NMDs)affect the development and growth of the neuromuscular system in *** pathology can occur anywhere along the neuromuscular pathway,from the brain to the nerves to the muscle *** diseases have a profound impact on the quality of life not only of children but also of their *** predominant manifestation in NMDs is hypotonia,which leads to muscle weakness and fatigue,reduced mobility,and decreased physical ***,multiple organ systems can be affected,with resulting orthopedic,cardiac,infectious,respiratory,and nutritional *** with NMD present an increased risk for several dietary and feeding difficulties because of their neuromuscular diagnosis,presentation,and *** problems include chronic gastrointestinal issues(constipation,dysphagia,gastroesophageal reflux,and diarrhea),dysphagia,malnutrition,and body composition *** a result,compared to the overall pediatric population,infants and children with NMD are more likely to be malnourished,ranging from failure to thrive to overweight or ***-specific guidelines vary in level of detail and recommendations for dietary ***,nutritional data available are sparse,with the exception of Duchenne muscular dystrophy,spinal muscular atrophy,and congenital muscular *** purpose of this review is to describe the spectrum of nutritional challenges in children with NMD and to summarize the main dietary and gastrointestinal recommendations for each neuromuscular disorder to provide guidance for daily clinical practice.

Diet is an important modifiable risk factor for obesity and obesity-related complications,and there has been growing interest in plant-based diets,mainly defined as“vegetarian”diets,which have been associated with a lower prevalence rate of overweight/obesity as well as a lower risk of coronary heart disease,type 2 diabetes,other cardiometabolic diseases,and all-cause mortality(1).Such dietary patterns are also a major determinant of environmental sustainability(1).Of note,however,vegetarian diets can include less healthy plant foods,such as refined grains and sugar-sweetened beverages which have detrimental effects on health(2).

This paper puts forward a new practical voltage source converter(VSC)based AC-DC converter model suitable for conducting power flow assessment of multi-terminal VSCbased high-voltage direct current(VSC-MTDC)*** model uses an advanced method to handle the operational limits and control modes of VSCs into the power flow *** new model is incorporated into a unified framework encompassing AC and DC power grids and is solved by using the Newton-Raphson method to enable quadratically convergent iterative *** use of complementarity constraints,together with the Fischer-Burmeister function,is proposed to enable the seamless incorporation of operational control modes of VSC and automatic enforcement of any converter’s operational limits that become violated during the iterative solution ***,a dedicated process for checking limits is no longer ***,all existing relationships between the VSC control laws and their operational limits are considered directly during the solution of the power flow *** applicability of the new model is demonstrated with numerical examples using various multi-terminal AC-DC transmission networks,one of which is a utility-sized power system.

Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is a malignant tumour of the biliary system that originates from the neoplastic transformation of *** is characterized by late diagnosis and poor outcome,with surgery considered as the last option for *** is a physiological lysosomal degradation process,essential for cellular homeostasis and ubiquitous in all eukaryotic *** studies have reported a potential involvement of autophagy in cancer,but it remains unclear whether activation of this process represents a survival mechanism of cancer *** the present review,we examine the autophagic process and summarize the current knowledge about the involvement of autophagy in the progression of *** link between autophagy and chemoresistance and the use of autophagic markers in diagnosis are also considered in *** evidence shows that the combination of autophagy modulators(activators or inhibitors)with conventional chemotherapeutic agents offers a possible treatment option against signalling pathways that are hyperactivated or altered in *** vitro evidence suggests that combination of chemotherapy agents,such as cisplatin,under activation or inhibition of autophagic processes,in two different CCA cell lines,may improve chemosensitivity and reduce cell survival,respectively.A deeper understanding of these pathways,in both cancer and non-cancer cells,could unveil possible therapeutic targets to treat CCA patients.

Bacterial colonization of the gut shapes both the local and the systemic immune response and is implicated in the modulation of immunity in both healthy and disease states. Recently, quantitative and qualitative changes in the composition of the gut microbiota have been detected in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, reinforcing the hypothesis of dysbiosis as a relevant mechanism underlying inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) pathogenesis. Humans and microbes have coexisted and co-evolved for a long time in a mutually beneficial symbiotic association essential for maintaining homeostasis. However, the microbiome is dynamic, changing with age and in response to environmental modifications. Among such environmental factors, food and alimentary habits, progressively altered in modern societies, appear to be critical modulators of the microbiota, contributing to or co-participating in dysbiosis. In addition, food constituents such as micronutrients are important regulators of mucosal immunity, with direct or indirect effects on the gut microbiota. Moreover, food constituents have recently been shown to modulate epigenetic mechanisms, which can result in increased risk for the development and progression of IBD. Therefore, it is likely that a better understanding of the role of different food components in intestinal homeostasis and the resident microbiota will be essential for unravelling the complex molecular basis of the epigenetic, genetic and environment interactions underlying IBD pathogenesis as well as for offering dietary interventions with minimal side effects.
