The generation of the continental crust is widely accepted to have taken place predominantly in the Archean,when TTg magmatism associated with greenstone-belt supracrustal succession development was typically followed by emplacement of high-K granites before crustal *** study focuses on the Campos gerais complex(CgC),which is an Archean granite-greenstone belt lithological association in a tectonic window located in the southwesternmost portion of the São Francisco craton(SFC).The CgC is an important segment of Paleo-to Mesoarchean continental crust to be integrated into paleogeographic reconstructions prior to the transition into the *** investigation reports field relationships,28 major and trace element compositions,U–Pb(zircon)geochronological results,and Hf and Sm–Nd isotope data for orthogneiss and amphibolite *** results indicate that the CgC records a complex Archean crustal evolution,where voluminous 2.97 ga TTg tonalites and trondhjemites(ε_(Nd)(t)=-4.7;T_(DM)=3.24 ga)were followed by 2.89 ga sanukitoid tonalite production(ε_(Nd)(t)=-1.9;T_(DM)=3.02 ga),broadly coeval with the development of the Fortaleza de Minas and Pitangui *** events are interpreted to represent the initial stage of an important subduction-accretion tectonic cycle,which ended with the emplacement of 2.82–2.81 ga high-K leucogranites and migmatization of the TTg-sanukitoid crust,with hybrid and two-mica,peraluminous compositions(ε_(Nd)(t)=-8.0 to-8.6;T_(DM)=3.57–3.34 ga).The presence of inherited zircons with207Pb/206Pb ages of 3.08 ga,3.29 ga,3.55 ga and 3.62 ga indicates that the Mesoarchean tectonic processes involved reworking of Meso-to Eo-archean *** TTg magmatism took place at ca.2.77 ga represented by juvenile tonalite stocks(ε_(Nd)(t)=+1.0 to-1.5;T_(DM)=2.80–2.88 ga)which intrude the TTg-greenstone belt *** stabilization was attained by 2.67 ga,allowing for the emplacement of within-plate thol

Mortality from chronic liver disease:Recent trends and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

Prepandemic time trends in mortality from chronic liver disease(CLD)differed according to specific cause of death(decreasing for liver cirrhosis,stable or increasing for liver cancer),etiology(increasing for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,generally decreasing for other etiologies),and world region(decreasing in areas with the highest burden of hepatitis B virus,increasing in Eastern Europe and other countries).The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic affected mortality of patients with CLD both directly,with a higher risk for severe illness and death depending on age,stage and etiology of the disease,and indirectly,through social isolation and loss of support,harmful drinking,and difficulties in access to ***,only sparse data are available on variations in CLD as a cause of death during the *** the USA,in 2020-2021 a growth in mortality was registered for all liver diseases,more marked for alcoholic liver disease,especially among young people aged 25-44 years and in selected ethnic ***-19 related deaths accounted only for a minor part of the *** data from mortality registers of other countries are warranted,preferably adopting the so-called multiple cause-of-death approach,and extended to deaths attributed to viral hepatitis and liver cancer.

Mesenchymal stem cell secretome and extracellular vesicles for neurodegenerative diseases: Risk-benefit profile and next steps for the market access

Neurodegenerative diseases represent a growing burden on healthcare systems worldwide. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown promise as a potential therapy due to their neuroregenerative, neuroprotective, and immunomodulatory properties, which are, however, linked to the bioactive substances they release, collectively known as secretome. This paper provides an overview of the most recent research on the safety and efficacy of MSC-derived secretome and extracellular vesicles (EVs) in clinical (if available) and preclinical models of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, acute ischemic stroke, and spinal cord injury. The article explores the biologically active substances within MSC-secretome/EVs, the mechanisms responsible for the observed therapeutic effects, and the strategies that may be used to optimize MSC-secretome/EVs production based on specific therapeutic needs. The review concludes with a critical discussion of current clinical trials and a perspective on potential future directions in translating MSC-secretome and EVs into the clinic, specifically regarding how to address the challenges associated with their pharmaceutical manufacturing, including scalability, batch-to-batch consistency, adherence to good Manufacturing Practices (gMP) guidelines, formulation, and storage, along with quality controls, access to the market and relative costs, value for money and impact on total expenditure.

Crucial steps in the natural history of inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD),including ulcerative colitis(UC) and Crohn's disease(CD),are chronic,progressive and disabling *** the last few decades,new therapeutic approaches have been introduced which have led not only to a reduction in the mortality rate but also offered the possibility of a favorable modification in the natural history of *** identification of clinical,genetic and serological prognostic factors has permitted a better stratification of the disease,thus allowing the opportunity to indicate the most appropriate *** treatment with immunosuppressive drugs and biologics has offered the opportunity to change,at least in the short term,the course of the disease by reducing,in a subset of patients with IBD,hospitalization and the need for *** this review,the crucial steps in the natural history of both UC and CD will be discussed,as well as the factors that may change their clinical *** methodological requirements for high quality studies on the course and prognosis of IBD,the true impact of environmental and dietary factors on the clinical course of IBD,the clinical,serological and genetic predictors of the IBD course(in particular,which of these are rel-evant and appropriate for use in clinical practice),the impact of the various forms of medical treatment on the IBD complication rate,the role of surgery for IBD in the biologic era,the true magnitude of risk of colorectal cancer associated with IBD,as well as the mortality rate related to IBD will be stressed;all topics that are extensively discussed in separate reviews included in this issue of World Journal of gastroenterology.

在美国西南部持续干旱的作用下,为了维持拉斯维加斯山谷既有水容量,南内华达水资源管理局在米德湖中新建了一个深水取水口(3号取水口)。本项目包括一口185 m深的竖井、十分困难的地质条件下4.7 km的隧道以及沉没式取水口海事工程。本文介绍设计和施工过程中积累的经验以及为解决隧道开挖过程中遇到的困难而采取的创新性解决方案,隧道开挖采用双模式泥浆隧道掘进机(TBM),压力高达15 bar(1 bar=10~5 Pa)。其中特别介绍了掘进机开挖过程中克服的主要挑战,包括作业模式、开挖面支撑压力、预注浆和维护;取水口的施工,涉及用锥形炸药爆破的水下竖井开挖;创造性地建设1200 t以上的混凝土-钢取水建筑物;取水建筑物在水下竖井中的就位;与混合式掘进机开挖的取水隧道的对接。

Conjugate Heat Transfer Characterization in Cooling Channels

Amine-rich carbon nitride nanoparticles:Synthesis,covalent functionalization with proteins and application in a fluorescence quenching assay

Carbon nitride nanoparticles (CNNPs) have been employed as fluorescent sensing tools owing to their unique features, e.g. low cost production, high stability in water and high photoluminescence quantum yield. Here, an easy and versatile synthetic approach was exploited to design fluorescent nanoparticles with surface functionalities suitable for covalent binding to bioligands. High hydrophilic, brightly fluorescent CNNPs, rich of superficial amines, were obtained from the thermal condensation of urea and lysine (CNNP^Lys) and by tuning the precursor ratio and the heating time. Structure and size of the functionalized nanoparticles were characterized through infrared (IR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Their optical properties were studied by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The superficial primary amino groups, furnished by the lysine co-precursor, enabled for covalently linking CNNP^Lys to model proteins. The CNNP^Lys-protein conjugates excited under UV irradiation emit in the 400-450 nm visible range (quantum yield 24%). The applicability of CNNP^Lys as novel fluorescent probes was demonstrated by a fluorescence quenching assay, in which gold nanoparticles (gNPs) were attached to Staphylococcal protein A and employed to quench the CNNP^Lys fluorescence by Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET). The quenching occurred upon formation of the specific binding between the gNP-linked protein A and CNNP^Lys-tagged immunoglobulins, while the inhibition of the binding resulted in the recovery of CNNP^Lys luminescence. The synthetic strategy, based on combining a "conjugated polymer"-forming unit (urea) and a co-precursor able to provide the desired functional group (lysine), allows designing innovative materials for the development of new generation fluorescence biosensors in which easily functionalized fluorophores are needed.
