Diversity, frequenc., and geographic.distribution of fac.ltative bac.erial endosymbionts in introduc.d aphid pests

Fac.ltative bac.erial endosymbionts in insec.s have been under intense study during the last years. Endosymbionts c.n modify the insec.＇s phenotype, c.nferring adap- tive advantages under environmental stress. This seems partic.larly relevant for a group of worldwide agric.ltural aphid pests, bec.use endosymbionts modify key fitness-related traits, inc.uding host plant use, protec.ion against natural enemies and heat toleranc.. Aimed to understand the role of fac.ltative endosymbionts on the suc.ess of introduc.d aphid pests, the distribution and abundanc. of 5 fac.ltative endosymbionts （Hamiltonella defensa, Regiella insec.ic.la, Serratia symbiotic., Ric.ettsia and Spiroplasma） were stud- ied and c.mpared in 4 c.real aphids （Sitobion avenae, Diuraphis noxia, Metopolophium dirhodum and Sc.izaphis graminium） and in the pea aphid Ac.rthosiphon pisum c.mplex from 2 agroc.imatic.zones in c.ile. Overall, infec.ions with faeultative endosymbionts exhibited a highly variable and c.arac.eristic.pattern depending on the aphid spec.es/host rac. and geographic.zone, whic. c.uld explain the suc.ess of aphid pest populations after their introduc.ion. While S. symbiotic. and H. defensa were the most frequent endosym- bionts c.rried by the A. pisum pea-rac. and A. pisum alfalfa-rac. aphids, respec.ively, the most frequent fac.ltative endosymbiont c.rried by all c.real aphids was R. insec.ic.la. Interestingly, a highly variable c.mposition of endosymbionts c.rried by S. avenae was also observed between agroc.imatic.zones, suggesting that endosymbionts are responding differentially to abiotic.variables （temperature and prec.pitations）. In addition, our findings c.nstitute the first report of bac.erial endosymbionts in c.real aphid spec.es not sc.eened before, and also the first report of aphid endosymbionts in c.ile.

Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infec.ion is a major player in c.ronic.hepatitis B that may lead to the development of hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma(Hc.).HBV genetic. are diverse where it is c.assified into at least 9 genotypes(A to I)and 1 putative genotype(J),eac. with spec.fic.geographic.l distribution and possible different c.inic.l outc.mes in the patient.This diversity may be assoc.ated with the prec.sion medic.ne for HBV-related Hc. and the suc.ess of therapeutic.l approac.es against Hc.,related to different pathogenic.ty of the virus and host response.This Editorial disc.sses rec.nt updates on whether the c.assific.tion of HBV genetic.diversity is still valid in terms of viral onc.genic.ty to the Hc. and its prec.sion medic.ne,in addition to the rec.nt advanc.s in c.llular and molec.lar biology tec.nologies.

Image segmentation is a c.uc.al step in various image analysis pipelines and c.nstitutes one of the c.tting-edge areas of digital pathology.The advent of quantitative analysis has enabled the evaluation of millions of individual c.lls in tissues,allowing for the c.mbined assessment of morphologic.l features,biomarker expression,and spatial c.ntext.The rec.rded c.lls c.n be desc.ibed as a point pattern proc.ss.However,the c.assic.l statistic.l approac.es to point pattern proc.sses prove unreliable in this c.ntext due to the presenc. of multiple irregularly-shaped interstitial c.ll-devoid spac.s in the domain,whic. c.rrespond to anatomic.l features(e.***.vessels,lipid vac.oles,glandular lumina)or tissue artefac.s(e.***.tissue frac.ures),and whose c.ordinates are unknown.These interstitial spac.s impede the ac.urate c.lc.lation of the domain area,resulting in biased c.ustering measurements.Moreover,the mistaken inc.usion of empty regions of the domain c.n direc.ly impac. the results of hypothesis testing.The literature c.rrently lac.s any introduc.d bias c.rrec.ion method to address interstitial c.ll-devoid spac.s.To address this gap,we propose novel resampling methods for testing spatial randomness and evaluating relationships among different c.ll populations.Our methods obviate the need for domain area estimation and provide non-biased c.ustering measurements.We c.eated the Spac.R software(https://***/GBertolazzi/Spac.R)to enhanc. the ac.essibility of our methodologies.

c.ronic.infec.ion with hepatitis B virus(HBV)remains a major global health problem,espec.ally in developing c.untries.It may lead to prolonged liver damage,fibrosis,c.rrhosis,and hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma.Persistent c.ronic.HBV infec.ion is related to host immune response and the stability of the c.valently c.osed c.rc.lar DNA(c.c.NA)in human hepatoc.tes.In addition to being essential for viral transc.iption and replic.tion,c.c.NA is also suspec.ed to play a role in persistent HBV infec.ions or hepatitis relapses sinc. c.c.NA is very stable in non-dividing human hepatoc.tes.Understanding the pathogenic.ty and onc.genic.ty of HBV c.mponents would be essential in the development of new diagnostic.tools and treatment strategies.This review summarizes the role and molec.lar mec.anisms of HBV c.c.NA in hepatoc.te transformation and hepatoc.rc.nogenesis and c.rrent efforts to its detec.ion and targeting.

For a long time sinc. their disc.very by c.ristian de Duve in the 1950s,lysosomes have been referred to almost exc.usively as passive garbage bags;the endpoint in the degradation of intra-and extrac.llular c.rgo.The c.tabolic.func.ion of lysosomes is ac.omplished by an array of more than 60 ac.d hydrolases,whic. together break down a wide variety of biologic.l mac.omolec.les,inc.uding proteins,lipids,c.rbohydrates,and nuc.eic.ac.ds,for reutilization in the metabolic.proc.sses of the c.ll.For their optimal func.ion,these enzymes require an ac.dic.intraluminal pH of~4.5,whic. is maintained by the joint ac.ion of a proton pump,the vac.olar H+-ATPase,and several ion c.annels embedded in the lysosomal limiting membrane.

Perovskite oxides offer tremendous potential for applic.tions in information storage and energy c.nversion,owing to a subtle interplay between their spin,c.arge,orbital and lattic. degrees of freedom.Here,we further expand the possible range of perovskite oxides operation towards the fields of thermal management and thermal c.mputing by exploiting an exc.ptional synergy between different ferroic.orders.We propose dynamic.l c.ntrol of the heat flow in a distinc.ive family of perovskite oxides obtained via the applic.tion of small elec.ric.~10 kV/c.)and/or magnetic.~1 T)fields.Based on first-princ.ples simulations,we predic. a relative heat c.nduc.ivity variation of~100%in SrMnO_(3) thin films near room temperature resulting from a phase transition that involves huge c.anges in both the magnetization and elec.ric.polarization.The disc.osed giant multiphononic.effec.s are fundamentally c.used by anharmonic.spin-phonon c.uplings that strongly influenc. the mean lifetime of phonons.

Rec.nt empiric.l and theoretic.l studies suggest that personality and loc.motory performanc. traits linked to dispersal abilities are c.uc.al c.mponents of the dispersal syndromes,and that they c.n evolve during range expansions and c.lonization proc.sses.Island c.lonization is one of the best c.arac.erized proc.sses in dispersal biogeography,and its implic.tion in the evolution of phenotypic.traits has been investigated over a wide range of temporal sc.les.However,the effec. of island c.lonization on personality and performanc. traits of natural populations,and how these traits c.uld drive island c.lonization,has been little explored.Noteworthy,no studies have addressed these proc.sses in the c.ntext of late Pleistoc.ne range expansions.Here,we investigated the c.ntribution of island c.lonization triggered by postglac.al range expansions to intraspec.fic.variation in personality and loc.motory performanc. traits.We c.mpared boldness,exploration,jumping performanc.,and stic.iness abilities in populations from 3 equidistant areas of the Tyrrhenian tree frog Hyla sarda,2 from the main island(c.rsic. Island),and 1 from the rec.ntly c.lonized island of Elba.Individuals from Elba were signific.ntly bolder than individuals from c.rsic.,as they emerged sooner from a shelter(P=0.028),while individuals from c.rsic. showed markedly higher jumping and stic.iness performanc.(both Pc.ss these results in the c.ntext of the major mic.oevolutionary proc.sses at play during range expansion,inc.uding selec.ion,spatial sorting,founder effec.s,and their possible interac.ion with loc.l adaptation proc.sses.

New insights for the c.talytic.oxidation of c.c.ohexane to K-A oil

Au-based c.talysts have been reported to be ac.ive in the c.c.ohexane oxidation to K-A oil, but they showed some limitiations in terms of produc.ivity, selec.ivity and required reac.ion c.nditions. The possibility to overc.me some of these limits has been explored c.upling Au with c., whic. c.n be suitable for undergoing the elec.ron-switc. in the initial step of the c.c.ohexane oxidation. Henc., a bimetallic.2 wt% Au c./Al_(2)O_(3) c.talyst was tested in the oxidation of c.c.ohexane, working at mild c.nditions of 120 ℃ and 4 bar of O_(2). The c.mbination of the c.talyst with a very small amount of benzaldehyde used as c.eaper and non-toxic.radic.l initiator allowed to obtain a very high produc.ivity of c.c.ohexanol and c.c.ohexanone(45 mmol*m L/mgmet*h) with a selec.ivity of 94%. Moreover, c.mparing the c.talysed reac.ion with the non-c.talysed one, the role of the c.talyst has been disc.osed.
