Astyanax mexicanus has repeatedly colonized cave environments,displaying evolutionary parallelisms in many troglobitic *** being a model system for the study of adaptation to life in perpetual darkness,the parasites that infect cavefish are practically *** this study,we investigated the macroparasite communities in 18 cavefish populations from independent lineages and compared them with the parasite diversity found in their sister surface fish populations,with the aim of better understanding the role that parasites play in the colonization of new *** the cavefish populations,we identified 13 parasite taxa,including a subset of 10 of the 27 parasite taxa known for the surface *** infecting the cavefish belong to five taxonomic groups,including trematodes,monogeneans,nematodes,copepods,and *** are the most dominant group,found in 14 *** macroparasites include species with direct life cycles and trophic transmission,including invasive ***,paired comparisons indicate higher parasite richness in the cavefish than in the surface *** variation in parasite composition across the caves suggests historical and geographical contingencies in the host-parasite colonization process and potential evolution of local *** base-line data on parasite diversity in cavefish populations of *** provides a foundation to explore the role of divergent parasite infections under contrasting ecological pressures(cave *** environments)in the evolution of cave adaptive traits.

We study the Hindmarsh-Rose burster which can be described by the differential system x^·=y-x^3＋bx^2＋I-z,y^·=1-5x^2-y,z^·=μ（s（x-x0）-z）where b, I, μ, s, x0 are parameters. We characterize all its invariant algebraic surfaces and all its exponential factors for all values of the parameters. We also characterize its Darboux integrability in function of the parameters. These characterizations allow to study the global dynamics of the system when such invariant algebraic surfaces exist.

Objective:Contribute to clarifying the existence of subclinical hearing deficits associated with ***:In this work,we study and compare the auditory perceptual and electrophysiological performance of normal-hearing young and adult subjects(tonal audiometry,high-frequency tone threshold,a triplet of digits in noise,and click-evoked auditory brainstem response).Study sample:45 normal hearing volunteers were evaluated and divided into two groups according to age.27 subjects were included in the“young group”(mean 22.1 years),and 18 subjects(mean 42.22 years)were included in the“adult group.”Results:In the perceptual tests,the adult group presented significantly worse tonal thresholds in the high frequencies(12 and 16 kHz)and worse performance in the digit triplet tests in *** the electrophysiological test using the auditory brainstem response technique,the adult group presented significantly lower I and V wave amplitudes and higher V wave latencies at the supra-threshold *** the threshold level,we observed a significantly higher latency in wave V in the adult *** addition,in the partial correlation analysis,controlling for the hearing level,we observed a relationship(negative)between age and speech in noise performance and high-frequency *** significant association was observed between age and the auditory brainstem ***:The results are compatible with subclinical hearing loss associated with aging.

Geomechanical design of a room and rib pillar granite mine

The geomechanical and stability design of an underground granite mine located in Canal San Bovo （Trento district, Northeastern Italy） was described. The exploitation of the granite, which is used in the ceramic industry, was carried out by the rooms and rib pillars method. The rooms are 12 m wide while the pillars are 11 m wide and they cross the main discontinuity set of the rock mass in the perpendicular direction. To verify the stability condition of an underground mine, it is necessary to carry out the calcula- tions that are able to check both the local and global stability of the rock mass. In the studied example, this approach has been applied with the development of analytical and numerical parametric analyses and it has permitted to get the best orientation and to design the size of rooms and pillars.

Clinical Research on Acupuncture-Concepts and Guidance on Efficacy and Effectiveness Research

Over the last few years a number of large acupuncture trials have been carried out in western countries. The following article draws on the experience from these recent large-scale trials on acupuncture to outline the way randomized trials could be used to answer questions on efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency. It will provide guidance, firstly on the underlying concepts of both efficacy and effectiveness and secondly on designing both types of trials. In addition, the controversy over specific and non-specific effects of acupuncture, emerging from the results of the above-mentioned trials, will be highlighted. Suggestions for future clinical research on acupuncture include： greater reflection on the complex approach of Chinese medicine, and transparent and detailed reporting according to CONSORT and STRICTA guidelines. The current data on acupuncture point-specific effects do indeed have relevance, however for valid decision-making on acupuncture, further clinical trials on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness are required to provide realistic benefit estimates for future health care.
