Background:With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic,all existing health protocols were tested under the worst health crisis humanity has experienced since the Black Death in the 14th *** in Latin America have been the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic,with more than 1.5 million people *** health measures have included quarantines,border closures,social distancing,and mask use,among *** particular,Chile implemented total or partial quarantine measures depending on the number of infections in each region of the ***,it is necessary to study the effectiveness of these quarantines in relation to the public health measures implemented by government entities at the national ***:The main objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of national-and region-level quarantines in Chile during the pandemic based on information published by the Chilean Ministry of Health,and answers to the following question are sought:Were quarantine measures in Chile effective during the COVID-19 pandemic?Methods:The causal effect between the rates of COVID-19 infections and the population rates in Phase 1 and Phase 2 quarantines in the period from March 2020 to March 2021 in different regions of Chile were evaluated using intervention analyses obtained through Bayesian structural time series *** addition,the Kendall correlation coefficient obtained through the copula approach was used to evaluate the comovement between these ***:In 75%of the Chilean regions under study(12 regions out of a total of 16),an effective Phase 1 quarantine,which was implemented to control and reduce the number of cases of COVID-19 infection,was *** main regions that experienced a decrease in cases were those located in the north and center of *** Phase 2,the COVID-19 pandemic was effectively managed in 31%(5 out of 16)of the *** the southcentral and extreme southern regions of Chile,the effectiveness o

Two-dimensional electron gases(2DEG),arising due to quantum confinement at interfaces between transparent conducting oxides,have received tremendous attention in view of electronic ***,we explore the potential of interfaces formed by two lattice-matched wide-gap oxides of emerging interest,i.e.,the polar,orthorhombic perovskite LaInO_(3)and the nonpolar,cubic perovskite BaSnO_(3),employing first-principles *** find that the polar discontinuity at the interface is mainly compensated by electronic relaxation through charge transfer from the LaInO_(3)to the BaSnO_(3)*** leads to the formation of a 2DEG hosted by the highly dispersive Sn-s-derived conduction band and a 2D hole gas of O-p character,strongly localized inside LaInO_(3).We rationalize how polar distortions,termination,thickness,and dimensionality of the system(periodic or non-periodic)can be exploited in view of tailoring the 2DEG characteristics,and why this material is superior to the most studied prototype LaAlO_(3)/SrTiO_(3).

We review the still scarce but growing literature on resilience to the effects of social stress on the rewarding properties of drugs of *** define the concept of resilience and how it is applied to the field of drug addiction *** also describe the internal and external protective factors associated with resilience,such as individual behavioral traits and social *** then explain the physiological response to stress and how it is modulated by resilience *** the subsequent section,we describe the animal models commonly used in the study of resilience to social stress,and we focus on the effects of chronic social defeat(SD),a kind of stress induced by repeated experience of defeat in an agonistic encounter,on different animal behaviors(depression-and anxiety-like behavior,cognitive impairment and addiction-like symptoms).We then summarize the current knowledge on the neurobiological substrates of resilience derived from studies of resilience to the effects of chronic SD stress on depressionand anxiety-related behaviors in ***,we focus on the limited studies carried out to explore resilience to the effects of SD stress on the rewarding properties of drugs of abuse,describing the current state of knowledge and suggesting future research directions.

Pollution of the aquatic environment is an ever-growing problem, as waters are the ultimate sink for the large number of xenobiotics from multiple sources. DNA damaging agents have a significant ecological relevance since they are implicated in many pathological processes and exert effects beyond that of individual being active through following generations. A large number of methods have been applied to evaluate genotoxic damage in different aquatic species. Comet assay, as method for detecting DNA alterations, and micronucleus test, as an index of chromosomal damage are the most widely applied and validated methods in field studies. These methods were applied in different vertebrate and invertebrate aquatic species, but only mollusk and fish species have been employed in routine biomonitoring programs. Mussels, due to their widely geographical distribution and the suitability for caging represent the bioindicator of choice in field *** is the most used marine mussel. The use of fish is limited to specific geographic areas. The present review mainly focuses on the application of comet assay and micronucleus test in mussels. A number of biomonitoring studies in mussels, using comet assay or micronucleus test, revealed exposure to different classes of genotoxic compounds with a good discrimination power. The different evidence from the two assays, reflects different biological mechanisms for the two genetic endpoints, DNA damage and chromosomal damage, suggesting their combined application in the field. Different endogenous and exogenous factors have been shown to modulate the genotoxic responses in mussels, acting as confounding factors in environmental monitoring. The use of standardized protocol for caging, sampling and genotoxity evaluation is critical in biomonitoring studies. In this paper, we study a new class of quadratic systems and classify all its phase portraits. More precisely, we characterize the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems in the plane having a complex ellipse x^2 ＋ y^2 ＋ 1 = 0 as invariant algebraic curve. We provide all the different topological phase portraits that this class exhibits in the Poincare disc.
