Background Araucaria araucana is a mast species that presents a high variability in annual cone production. Researchers have recorded synchronization events in cone production in different populations, which allows the seed production to be concentrated, reducing the percentage of seeds consumed by different animal *** We sampled three populations located in the Andes Mountains, Araucanía Region, Chile. In 2004 we began the collection of data on cone production, for which we installed permanent plots（1200 m2each） at each location. We identified and labeled each female tree in each plot to monitor its cone production. In 2012 we selected a total of 30 trees near the plots to evaluate the number of seeds per cone. In each February from 2012 to 2014 we selected two mature cones and covered them with a porous mesh for subsequent collection and storage in March. At the beginning of June, we counted and weighed the seeds, determining the average weight, the number of seeds per cone, the germination capacity（GC）, and the germination speed（GS）.Results Cone production was synchronous across the three locations. We observed significant differences among the locations and years evaluated. The cones had fewer seeds in 2013（high production） compared to those in 2012（low production）, but their weights were similar. In 2014 the cones produced smaller seeds in fewer quantities. The difference between the years 2013 and 2014 resulted from the high-energy expenditure in 2013. AIM:To study the association between genetic ancestry,non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) metabolic characteristics in two cohorts of patients,from Brazil and portugal. METHODS:We included 131 subjects from Brazil [(n = 45 with simple steatosis(S. Steatosis) and n = 86 with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)] and 90 patients from portugal(n = 66,S. Steatosis; n = 24,NASH). All patients had biopsy-proven NAFLD. In histologic evaluation NAFLD activity score was used to assess histology and more than 5 points defined NASH in this study. patients were divided into two groups according to histology diagnosis:simple steatosis or non-alcoholic statohepatitis. Genetic ancestry was assessed using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Seven ancestry informative markers(AT3-I/D,LpL,Sb19.3,ApO,FYNull,pV92,and CKMM) with the greatest ethnicgeographical differential frequencies(≥ 48%) were used to define genetic ancestry. Data were analyzed using R pROJECTS software. Ancestry allele frequencies between groups were analyzed by GENEpOp onlineand the estimation of genetic ancestry contribution was evaluated by ADMIX-95 software. The 5% alpha-error was considered as significant(p ple,NASH was significantly more frequent among the elderly patients with diabetes(NASH 56 ± 1.1 years old vs S. Steatosis 51 ± 1.5 years old,p = 3.7 x 10-9),dyslipidemia(NASH 63% vs S. Steatosis 37%,p = 0.009),higher fasting glucose levels(NASH 124 ± 5.2 vs S. Steatosis 106 ± 5.3,p = 0.001) and Homeostatic Model of Assessment index > 2.5 [NASH 5.3(70.8%) vs S. Steatosis 4.6(29.2%) p = 0.04]. In the portuguese study population,dyslipidemia was present in all patients with NASH(p = 0.03) and hypertension was present in a larger percentage of subjects in the S. Orchiectomy is the recommended treatment for many testicular ***,testicular prosthesis placement is not always performed for different *** this study,we aimed to evaluate patients'opinions and the impact on sexual function and quality of *** retrospective observational single-center study included patients who underwent orchiectomy between January 2014 and December 2020 at the Department of Urology,Braga's Hospital(Braga,portugal),where testicular implants were always available and the decision to undergo the procedure was made fully independent of *** completed four questionnaires that assessed demographic data,satisfaction,self-esteem,and sexual *** the 96 patients who underwent orchidectomy,59 replied to the questionnaires,and of these patients,86.4%decided to undergo silicone-based testicular prostheses *** remaining 13.6%refused the implant based on concerns about complications(37.5%),because they felt that it was unnecessary(37.5%),or because it was not offered by the doctor(25.0%).Overall,96.1%of these patients were satisfied with the implant;however,25.5%classified it as"too firm".No statistically significant differences were found in sexual function(all p>0.05).However,it can be observed that there are more patients with prostheses presenting normal sexual activity compared to patients without prostheses(74.0%vs 50.0%),and none of them reported severe erectile dysfunction(0 vs 16.7%).Regarding self-esteem,both patients with and without prostheses present very similar average scores with no statistically significant *** present study highlights the highest level of satisfaction among patients who received testicular *** prostheses implantation is a safe procedure that does not hamper sexual function after orchiectomy.

Objectives:The Brazilian Unified Health System(SistemaÚnico de Saúde−SUS)is the universal public healthcare system of Brazil that maintains a nationwide database of its *** primary objective was to analyze regional and temporal trends,while our secondary goal was to establish correlations between states’health economy status and their prostate cancer(pCa)***:We analyzed Brazil’s nationwide data on prostate cancer(pCa)incidence,mortality,and care gathered between 2013 and 2021 by the Information Technology Department of SUS(DATA-SUS),updated monthly using the International Classification of Diseases(ICD-10)***:In the period,273,933 new cases of pCa and 135,336 pCa deaths were reported in men aged 50 years or over in *** median annual pCa-specific incidence rate(pCSIR)ranged from 14.7 in the Southeast to 6.9 in the North region and the median annual pCa-specific mortality rate(pCSMR)ranged from 7.7 in the Northeast to 6.0 in the South region(per 10,000 men>50).The median annual mortality to incidence ratio(MIR)was highest in the North(0.88)and lowest in the Southeast region(0.44).There were significant regional differences in pCa treatment rates(per new cases);the Midwest region had the highest median annual surgery rate(0.63)while the North region had the highest median annual systemic therapy rate(0.75)and the lowest radiation therapy rate(0.06).Temporal analysis of the data showed significant change in annual rate trends after the year 2018 for pCSIR(coefficient[β]=+3.66,pp=0.016),surgery([SR]β=+0.05,p=0.017)radiation therapy([RTR]β=−0.06,p=0.005)and systemic therapy([STR]β=−0.10,p=0.002).After the 2020 pandemic,annual pCSIR decreased(β=−2.15,p=0.002)but annual pCSMR,MIR,and treatment rates remained *** studies showed that the pCSIR was strongly negatively correlated with STR(ppositively correlated with RTR(p=0.004).MIR was positively correlated with STR(p<0.001)and ne

To evaluate the relationship between testosterone replacement therapy(TRT)and arterial and/or venous thrombosis in patients with pre-treatment total testosterone(TT)performed a meta-analysis following the population Intervention Comparison Outcome ***:men with TTpogonadism in the inclusion criteria of patients;intervention:TRT;comparison:placebo or no therapy;outcomes:arterial thrombotic events(stroke,myocardial infarction[MI],upper limbs,and lower limbs),VTE(deep vein thrombosis[DVT],portal vein thrombosis,splenic thrombosis,and pulmonary embolism),and mortality.A total of 2423 abstracts were assessed for ***-four studies,including 14 randomized controlled trials(RCTs),were finally included,with a total of 4027 and 310288 hypotestosteronemic male patients,from RCTs and from observational studies,*** on RCT-derived data,TRT did not influence the risk of arterial thrombosis(odds ratio[OR]=1.27,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.47-3.43,p=0.64),stroke(OR=1.34,95%CI:0.09-18.97,p=0.83),MI(OR=0.51,95%CI:0.11-2.31,p=0.39),VTE(OR=1.42,95%CI:0.22-9.03,p=0.71),pulmonary embolism(OR=1.38,95%CI:0.27-7.04,p=0.70),and mortality(OR=0.70,95%CI:0.20-2.38,p=0.56).Meanwhile,when only observational studies are considered,a significant reduction in the risk of developing arterial thrombotic events,Ml,venous thromboembolism,and mortality was *** risk for DVT remains uncertain,due to the paucity of RCT-based *** in men with TTpecifically assessing the risk of DVT in men on TRT are needed.
