Unlike research methods for social and positivist sciences,those for architectural design lack a discipline-specific conceptual *** science aims at producing outcomes for future use and therefore needs a robust methodological approach that encompasses different techniques and methods supporting an evidence-based architectural design *** study suggests that design science can be successfully applied to architectural design development and provides architects and designers with a powerful tool bridging the gap between research and *** so doing,this study explores the application of design science to implement a user-centered design approach.A design challenge is reframed within the robust framework of design science by referring to a case study on refugee *** traditional method by which shelter optimization is pursued by designers is questioned by involving the final users through an ethnographic approach within the framework of design *** design outcome produced through this process is a list of specifications allowing designers to create different architectural solutions and matching the requirements expressed by future *** authors argue that a user-centered design outcome can be achieved and validated through design science.

With interest we read the case report of Budnik, et al. about the oldest patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy （TTC） so far reported. We have the following comments and questions： TTC is frequently triggered by emotional or physical stress. Were there any emotional or physical triggers for TTC in the presented patient？ It is indicated that the patient felt chronic stress associated with her memories of World War II. Since the World War II ended more than 70 years ago, it would be interesting if any recent event exacerbated her memories.

To the Editor:Hypophosphatasia(HPP)is a musculoskeletal inborn error-of-metabolism caused by variants in alkaline phosphatase(ALPL)with reduced activity of the serum tissue-non-specific alkaline phosphatase,[1]which is predominantly expressed in brain,muscle,bones,liver,and kidneys.[2]Accordingly,HPP is a multi-system disorder affecting bones and more rarely extra-osseus organs.[2]Osseus features of HPP include decreased bone quality,osteoid accumulations,reduced bone-mineralization,increased incidence of fractures,premature closure of sutures,bone deformities,dwarfism,Bechterew disease,early loss of teeth,intracranial hypertension,and prolonged bone healing.[1]Extra-osseous features of HPP include seizures,[3]myopathy,[2]hepatopathy,and renal *** responds favorably to enzyme replacement therapy with asfotase-α.[1]

Aims Grazing is associated with several plant traits that may confer resist-ance to ***,cross-species analyses do not allow for the differentiation between adaptive evolution and common *** this study,we evaluated the effect of grazing on 5 mor-phological traits in 41 native grasses growing in natural grasslands of Uruguay and investigated whether such effects are independent of *** We used data of grass species from 17 paired,grazed and ungrazed plots located in different regions of natural grass-lands of *** each species,we calculated the Grazing Response index(GRi)and estimated the culm length,blade length,blade width,blade length/width ratio and caryopsis *** values were calculated as the mean of the maximum and minimum values reported in a public *** assessed the relationship between the GRi and the morphologi-cal traits using cross-species correlations,and we re-examined the correlations using phylogenetically controlled comparative *** Findings Culm length and blade length were significantly correlated with the *** with higher culms and longer blades diminished their cover under *** association remained significant after statistical control of phylogenetic relatedness among *** contrast,blade width,blade length/width ratio and caryopsis length did not show any significant relationship with the *** studies in temperate grasslands recognized that several plant traits respond to grazing but were rarely evaluated in a phylogenetic *** results are consistent with the idea that grazing is a selective force with a clear effect on the evolution of grass stature,selecting smaller plants with shorter blades.

Background: Eurasian Sparrowhawks(Accipiter nisus) increasingly represent successful city-dwellers. Thereby, a rich food supply indicated by high numbers of small birds is believed to be the key driver for this bird-eating raptor species to settle in urban environments. However, as small passerine birds show particularly strong antipredator responses, sparrowhawks may not simply focus on patches of highest prey densities, but rather respond strategically to prey behavior, raising the importance of other parameters in determining the occurrence within urban ***: To deepen our knowledge on habitat requirements of urban sparrowhawks, bird surveys were carried out during winter between December 2005 and January 2017 in 36 city parks in Vienna, Austria. Besides food supply also park size, canopy heterogeneity and the connectivity with other green spaces were ***: Occurrence of sparrowhawks was positively affected by increasing park size, prey density and the interaction between both. Bird feeder density and park connectivity with other green spaces were of minor importance in explaining the presence of this species. Canopy heterogeneity didn't affect city park occupancy by Eurasian ***: Our results suggest that large city parks, particularly when characterized by high prey densities, substantially contribute to protect and preserve ecologically important bird species such as raptors within the urban environment—a landscape already struggling with biodiversity losses and functional homogenization.

How forest edge-center transitions in the herb layer interact with beech dominance versus tree diversity

Aims Forest fragmentation and the associated augmentation of forest edge zones are increasing *** edges are characterized by altered plant species richness and community *** the tree layer and its species composition has been shown to influence herb layer composition,changes in tree species composition or richness may weaken or strengthen edge effects in forest *** studied effects of the edge-center transition,tree species composition and their potential interaction on the understory vegetation in the Hainich National Park,Germany’s largest connected deciduous forest,allowing to cover large edge-center *** We established 12 transects in an area of 75 km^(2) of continuous forest,6 beech-dominated and 6 in multispecies forest *** transect reached from the forest edge up to 500 m into the forest *** relevés were conducted in regular,logarithmic distances along each *** Findings Herb species richness was influenced by an interaction of edge effects and tree diversity *** increasing distance from the forest edge,herb species richness remained constant in multispecies forest stands but rapidly decreased in beech-dominated forest ***,herb richness was higher in the interior of multispecies forest *** forest specialists increased and percent generalists decreased with distance from the edge and this contrasting pattern was much more pronounced in beech-dominated *** using structural equation modeling,we identified litter depth mediated by tree species composition as the most important driver of herb layer plant species richness.

We define and investigate,via numerical analysis,a one dimensional toymodel of a cloud *** energetic quantum particle,whose initial state is a superposition of two identical wave packets with opposite average momentum,interacts during its evolution and exchanges(small amounts of)energy with an array of localized *** by the interaction with the environment,the initial superposition state turns into an incoherent sum of two states describing the following situation:or the particle is going to the left and a large number of spins on the left side changed their states,or the same is happening on the right *** evolution is reminiscent of what happens in a cloud chamber where a quantum particle,emitted as a spherical wave by a radioactive source,marks its passage inside a supersaturated vapour-chamber in the form of a sequence of small liquid bubbles arranging themselves around a pssible classical trajectory of the particle.
