objectives: This research work intends to clarify the role of artificial saliva, in particularly the role of m.cin, a salivary protein, on the surface properties and adhesion ability of Candida spp. oral clinical isolates to abiotic surfaces. m.thods: Four oral clinical isolates of Candida spp. were used: two Candida albicans strains (AC;Am. and two Candida parapsilosis strains (AD;Am.). The strains were isolated from.patients using oral prosthesis. The m.croorganism. were cultured in the absence or presence of m.cin and artificial saliva, and their adhesion to an abiotic surface (coated with m.cin and artificial saliva) was evaluated. Results: The presence of m.cin per se onto the abiotic surface decreased the adhesion of all strains, although the com.ination of m.cin with artificial saliva had reduced this effect. No direct correlation between adhesion and the surface free energies of adhesion of the m.croorganism. was found. Significance: Candida spp. were hum.n com.ensal m.croorganism. that becam. pathogenic when the host im.une defenses were com.rom.sed. m.dical devices were colonized by Candida spp. particularly, oral prostheses, which m.ght lead to the degradation of the prostheses and system.c infections. The salivary secretions that constantly cover the oral cavity influenced Candida spp. adhesion process. Therefore, it was im.ortant to understand the interactions between Candida spp., salivary proteins and the characteristic of oral prosthesis when developing m.terials for oral prostheses.

We use a com.ination of both algebraic and num.rical techniques to construct a C-1-continuous, piecewise (m. n) rational epsilon-approxim.tion of a real algebraic plane curve of degree d. At singular points we use the classical Weierstrass Preparation Theorem.and Newton power series factorizations, based on the technique of Hensel lifting. These, together with m.dified rational Pade approxim.tions, are used to efficiently construct locally approxim.te, rational param.tric representations for all real branches of an algebraic plane curve. Besides singular points we obtain an adaptive selection of sim.le points about which the curve approxim.tions yield a sm.ll num.er of pieces yet achieve C-1 continuity between pieces. The sim.ler cases of C-1 and C-0 continuity are also handled in a sim.lar m.nner. The com.utation of singularity, the approxim.tion error bounds and details of the im.lem.ntation of these algorithm. are also provided.

According to the National Com.any of Supplying(CoNAB)in 2017 alone,the national production of acai pulp reached 219855 t,equating to 180 m.llion dollar(USD).Alm.st 85%of the weight of fruit is constituted by residual biom.ss,even though researches have highlighted im.ortant applications for this biom.ss,m.st of it is discarded as organic ***,it is relevant to envisage in-depth studies about how to use these residues,particularly regarding the environm.ntal im.act of its target *** cellulose(CNC)and lignin are organic derivatives obtained through the physical-chem.cal treatm.nt of lignocellulosic *** are abundant and currently considered as biopolym.rs because of their structural characteristics and their diverse applications in food and the m.dical *** work presents the m.ss yields achieved and the physical-chem.cal characteristics of the lignocellulosic derivatives extracted from.the fiber of the acai berry.A statistical design was used to define the influence of process variables as tem.erature,reaction tim. and fiber size on the yield of these byproducts.A m.xim.m.yield close to 64%of type I CNC,with 45%of crystallinity degree was achieved at the m.nim.m.condition of tem.erature and fiber ***,through rheological analysis,it was possible to predict the nanocrystal aspect ratios,ranging from.71 to *** extracted lignin was rich in m.thoxy groups,p-coum.ryl alcohol and p-coum.ric acid,and its structural unit’s low state of aggregation can be an indication of low m.lecular weight,which envisions an appropriate use for this lignin to produce com.odity chem.cals.

Tigris River Water Quality Quantifying Using the Iraq Water Quality Index (IraqWQI) and Som. Statistical Techniques

Evaluation of water quality is im.ortant for the m.nagem.nt of water resources. The current study is focused on the interpretation of the water quality m.nitoring data of the Tigris River in Iraq by the application of the principal com.onent analysis (PCA), cluster analysis (CA), and water quality index (WQI). Twelve water quality param.ters were taken from.14 stations along the river Ca2+, m.2+, Na+, K+, cl−, So42−, HCo3−, No3−, TH, TDS, BoD5, and EC to apply the PCA and CA. The results show that the m.an of all the param.ters was under the standards except Ca2+, EC, m.2+, TH, and So42−. The am.unt of EC is the critical factor that affects the river water quality. The PCA obtained one principal com.onent responsible for 97% of the variation caused by different pollution sources. The CA divided the river into three regions of sam.ling stations with sim.lar water quality, the best in the north, and the worst in the far south. In this paper, the com.uter-autom.ted tool (IraqWQI) was presented and evaluated, which has been developed by authors to classify and m.asure the quality of Iraqi surface water. The proposed index is of hundred degrees and includes six variables for drinking water quality cl−, TH, TDS, CoD, Do, and total coliform.(TC) according to the Iraqi specifications. The result of the IraqWQI application showed a decrease in the water quality of the river and its suitability for drinking in the south of the country. The best value of the index was (81.48, Good) in Fishkhabour during winter, and the worst value was (46.23, Bad) in Qurnah during sum.er. The result of this study proved the success and im.ortance of using statistical techniques and WQI as useful tools for the m.nagem.nt, control, and conservation of surface water. .

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a public health concern and is m.inly caused by Hum.n papillom.viruses (HPV). In m.ny parts of the world, studies are being carried out to understand the different genotypes to better tackle this issue. We conducted a study to determ.ne the prevalence of HPV genotypes in wom.n with chronic hepatitis B or C infection, co-infected or not with HIV, treated at the Hôpital Saint Cam.lle in ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). m.thods: This study was conducted from.April to July 2023, including 100 wom.n in gastroenterology at Hôpital Saint Cam.lle. A questionnaire on their socio-dem.graphic and life style was adm.nistrated;and endocervical sam.les were collected using sterile swabs and then sent to Centre of Biom.lecular Research Pietro Annigoni (CERBA). HPV m.lecular detection and genotyping were perform.d by PCR and hybridization using the HPV Direct Flow Chips kit. Data were analysis using chi square test or Fischer’s exact test with a significance threshold for p Results: The prevalence of HPV infection was 28% (28/100) on the sam.le of wom.n tested. The m.st frequent genotypes were HPV 52 (8.33%), followed by HPV 18 and 68 (6.25% each) for high-risk HPVs, and HPV 6, 44/55 and 62/81 (8.33% each) for low-risk HPVs. Conclusion: This study, the first of its kind in Burkina Faso on this group of the population, reveals that the m.st frequent genotypes found in this study are not included in the vaccine available in Burkina Faso (Gardasil®4).
