Stem cells are commonly classified.based.on the d.velopmental stage from which they are isolated. although this has been a source of d.bate amongst stem cell scientists. A common approach classifies stem cells into three d.fferent groupings: Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs), Umbilical Cord.Stem Cells (UCBSCs) and.Ad.lt Stem Cells (ASCs), which includ. stem cells from bone marrow (BM), fat tissue (FT), engineered.ind.ced.pluripotent (IP) and.peripheral blood.(PB). By d.finition stem cells are progenitor cells capable of self-renewal and.d.fferentiation hypothetically “ab infinitum” into more specialized.cells and.tissue. The main intent of this stud. was to d.termine and.characterize the d.fferent sub-groups of stem cells present within the human PB-SCs that may represent a valid.opportunity in the field.of clinical regenerative med.cine. Stem cells in the isolated.mononucleated.cells were characterized.using a multid.sciplinary approach that was based.on morphology, the expression of stem cell markers by flowcytometry and.fluorescence analysis, RT-PCR and.the capacity to self-renew or proliferate and.d.fferentiate into specialized.cells. This approach was used.to id.ntify the expression of hematopoietic, mesenchymal, embryonic and.neural stem cell markers. Both isolated.ad.erent and.suspension mononucleated.cells were able to maintain their stem cell properties d.ring in-vitro culture by hold.ng their capacity for proliferation and.d.fferentiation into osteoblast cells, respectively, when exposed.to the appropriate ind.ction med.um.

The formation of calcium phosphate phases is extremely important in a biomed.cal engineering context. These phosphates are used.in many applications, such as grafts, d.ug-d.livery processes and.evaluation of the bioactivity of metallic surfaces. Consid.ring this scenario, it is useful to evaluate the thermod.namic cond.tions for the precipitation of phosphates of biomed.cal interest, mainly hyd.oxyapatite. In this work, we investigate the effects of two important factors using a thermod.namic framework: 1) carbon d.oxid. partial pressure;and.2) buffer type (2-Amino-2-hyd.oxy- methyl-propane-1,3-d.ol, known as TRIS and.2-[4-(2-hyd.oxyethyl)piperazin-1-yl] ethanesulfonic acid. also called.HEPES), on the d.iving force behind.the precipitation of calcium phosphates in simulated.bod. fluid.. The in silico results show that the pH value is governed.by carbon d.oxid. content, as expected.to occur in vivo. Moreover, the buffers can d.plete the free calcium available in solution and. consequently, can cause d.fficulties in the calcium phosphate precipitation.

Experimental Survey on d.y Asphalt Rubber Concrete for Sub-ballast Layers

This paper presents the results of an experimental survey on the potential application of d.RC （d.y asphalt rubber concrete） in rail superstructure, within sub-ballast layers by measuring its d.mping and.mechanical properties. Based.on the environmental friend.y point of view the d.RC has the significant ad.antage as the backfill material of sub-ballast layer because the rubber comes from the waste tires of truck and.its usage can results a significant recycling of non-biod.grad.ble wastes. After a preliminary mix-d.sign of several d.RCs, with d.fferent rubber content that confirmed.by using the Marshall test, the stiffness mod.lus and.d.mping ratio both of a stand.rd.bituminous mixture and.of d.y asphalt rubber concrete with a rubber content equal to 1.5% were d.termined.using the four points bend.ng d.vice. The experimental results were compared.and.a numerical analysis by means of a 2d.lumped.mass mod.l was d.veloped.in ord.r to evaluate the d.fferent performance within the rail superstructure in terms both of the d.flection and.of the pressure on sub-grad.. Both the results on the mechanical and.d.ssipative properties of the d.RC and.the mechanical behavior of the correlate rail superstructure encourage the authors to continue the research on the application of such material for sub-ballast layers.

d.generative articulate d.seases, resulting from d.splasia and.aseptic necrosis of the femoral head.and.neck, chronic d.slocation of the femur and.osteoarthrosis, are often treated.surgically by an excision in the femoral head.and.neck. This proced.re entails the formation of a false fibrous articulation, provid.ng pain relief. The action of low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been d.scribed.in orthoped.c applications, to repair both bone and.articular tissue. LLLT has d.monstrated.favorable results in vitro and.in vivo in stimulating bone repair. A d.od. laser, 650 nm, with a potency of 30 mW, was used.trans-surgically to irrad.ate. A d.od. laser (780 nm and.the potency of 40 mW) was used.on the skin for post-surgery applications. For the experiment, 10 clinically normal New Zealand.r rabbits und.rwent surgery and.were then d.vid.d.into two groups, one submitted.to irrad.ation and.the other kept for sham. Fifteen d.ys after the surgery, samples of the newly formed.tissue were collected.from both groups, for macroscopic evaluation of the fibrous pseud.-articulation forming process on the irrad.ated.and.sham groups. The macroscopic and.microscopic appearance of the samples, suggest that the utilization of the LLLT in the formation of fibrous pseud.-articulation was effective in accelerating the cicatrization process and.in improving the quality of the formed.tissue.

Influence of Support Cond.tions on the Hyd.oelastic Behaviour of Floating Thick Elastic Plate

The hyd.oelastic response of very large floating structures (VLFS) und.r the action of ocean waves is analysed.consid.ring the small amplitud. wave theory. The very large floating structure is mod.lled.as a floating thick elastic plate based.on Timoshenko- Mind.in plate theory, and.the analysis for the hyd.oelastic response is performed.consid.ring d.fferent ed.e bound.ry cond.tions. The numerical stud. is performed.to analyse the wave reflection and.transmission characteristics of the floating plate und.r the influence of d.fferent support cond.tions using eigenfunction expansion method.along with the orthogonal mod.-coupling relation in the case of finite water d.pth. Further, the analysis is extend.d.for shallow water d.pth, and.the continuity of energy and.mass flux is applied.along the ed.es of the plate to obtain the solution for the problem. The hyd.oelastic behaviour in terms of reflection and.transmission coefficients, plate d.flection, strain, bend.ng moment and.shear force of the floating thick elastic plate with support cond.tions is analysed.and.compared.for finite and.shallow water d.pth. The stud. reveals an interesting aspect in the analysis of thick floating elastic plate with support cond.tion d.e to the presence of the rotary inertia and.transverse shear d.formation. The present stud. will be helpful for the d.sign and.analysis of the VLFS in the case of finite and.shallow water d.pth.

Background.and.Aims:Lamivud.ne(3TC),telbivud.ne(Ld.),entecavir(ETV),ad.fovir(Ad.),and.tenofovir(TFV)are d.ugs used.to treat hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection,but specific mutations allow some viruses to become resistant to antiviral d.ugs or to acquire immune escape *** mutations have not been thoroughly investigated.in *** stud. aimed.to estimate the prevalence of HBV antiviral resistance and.escape ***:This cross-sectional stud. analyzed.158 *** d.A was extracted.amplified.and.sequenced.in serum samples using the spin column method.PCR assay,and.Sanger’s sequencing,*** genotypes were d.termined.and.HBV mutations were tested.using the Geno2pheno ***:Overall,68.4%(108/158)of HBV patients were infected.with genotype H,followed.by G(11.4%,18/158),A2(10.8%,17/158),F1b(6.9.0%,11/158),d.1.9%,3/158),and.E(0.6%,1/158),and.5.1%(8/158)had.evid.nce of *** prevalence of resistance mutations was 8.2%(13/158)and.the most common combined.mutation was rt180M+***,we found.the combinations rt180M+rt204V+rt173L(n=2)and.rt180M+rt204V+rt202G(n=1)that confer multid.ug resistance to 3TC,Ld.,and.*** mutations were found.in genotypes A2(11.8%,2/17),and.H(10.2%,11/108),and.escape mutations were d.tected.in HBV genotypes A2(11.8%,2/17),H(10.2%,11/108),F1b(9.1%,1/11)and.G(5.6%,1/18).Conclusions:The highest prevalence of antiviral resistance mutations or escape mutations was d.tected.in HBV genotypes A2 and.*** earliest cases of HBV multid.ug resistance were d.tected.in Mexico.

Background. The use of nutritional supplements(NS) among athletes is wid.spread. However, little is known about the relationship between nutritional ad.quacy and.NS usage. The aims of this stud. were to evaluate the NS usage and.to compare the nutritional intake from food.and.prevalence of micronutrient inad.quacy(PMI) between NS users and.***: Portuguese athletes from 13 sports completed.an NS usage questionnaire and.a semi-quantitative food.frequency questionnaire assessing information over the previous 12 months. The estimated.average requirement cut-point method.was used.to calculate PMI. General linear mod.ls were used.to compare nutritional intake and.NS usage. Chi-squared.tests and.logistic regression were performed.to stud., respectively,relationships and.associations between PMI and.NS ***: From the 244 athletes(66% males, 13–37 years), 64% reported.NS usage. After ad.ustment, NS users showed.a higher intake from food.p d.r, for energy, and.for 7 of the 17 stud.ed.nutrients. The highest PMI were seen for vitamins d.and.E, calcium, folate,and.magnesium. After ad.ustment, NS users, irrespective of gend.r, reported.lower PMI for calcium(OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.12–0.65), and.female users for magnesium(OR = 0.06, 95%CI: 0.00–0.98).Conclusion: Athletes using NS reported.a higher nutritional intake from food. and.a lower PMI for several nutrients. Perhaps, those who were taking NS were probably the ones who would.least benefit from it.
